The city’s extensive history began decades ago. It was founded in 1786, but ⅔ of the city burned down after General William T. Sherman entered in 1865. A few historic buildings managed to survive, such as the Hampton-Preston Mansion, Robert Mills House and Gardens, and South Carolina State House. They’re all worth visiting as a way to experience life during the Antebellum period.
Several museums celebrate South Carolina’s history and cultures such as the Columbia Museum of Art and the South Carolina State Museum. Many are interactive and entertaining enough for children, such as the famous EdVenture.
South Carolina’s Lake Murray Dam is a well-known attraction, but Columbia also has plenty of other beautiful natural spaces. They include Saluda Shoals, Congaree National Park, the Sesquecential State Park, and the Harbison State Forest, to name a few.
Sports-lovers will have a wonderful time in the city. The Williams-Bryce Stadium hosts a rowdy crowd, and the multi-purpose Segra Park is worth visiting as well. You’re certain to find a game or event that you’ll enjoy in one of them.
Unique shops such as the Mast General Store offer all the supplies you could ever need for your trip, especially if you plan to camp out in one of the city’s parks. The farmers’ markets on the weekends offer a large selection of local produce. You can also enjoy delicious local food at restaurants such as Villa Tronco and Oyster Bar Columbia.

Finally a positive video about this city.
Thanks for watching! We're glad to know that you love our video. If we may ask, what other types of video would you like to see on Viewcation?
According to the scenes in this video, Congaree National Park is located along the seashore AND in the mountains! That's quite a park!
This is my home! I love when people talk about this place!❤
I'm thinking to move there? Is it good place to live in and safe?
@@tomtom8635 It certainly is! Just don't move to certain parts of town like the Hopkins area. I recommend the northeastern part of town and the Harbison area because they have a lot to do and they're really good to live on. Although, they can have pretty heavy traffic. Especially along I-26, where the Harbison area is

Thanks a lot do you know anything about school system ratings for elementary school is good or bad? Also how is the job opportunities?
@@tomtom8635 Oh we've got a lot of job opportunities here. And the good schools here are in the northeastern part of town and places in the Lexington area
@@moriyahviera6444 I really appreciate this info. What is the name of places in northeastern please?
Love Columbia!
We're happy to know that you love Columbia! Which other city/location would you like us to cover?

And I am coming as refugee to This City
Nice too you all
Fun stuff, thanks for sharing! We do hope that you'll have the best of time living in Columbia.
I heard this city has pretty good weather year-round
It gets really hot during the summer, then the first few days of fall it gets super cold. Then it goes back to summer weather. Then in winter it goes back to cold. It’s only snowed about twice here during my whole entire time. One about around 2015 and in 2022
@@LaunchRider me and my wife are here from Canada in the beginning of Dec. The weather is very good, a little chilly in the mornings but being from the north this is nothing. But I think you'd like it.
January average high temp of 60F- that’s pretty darn good
@@UvidCoY'all much be Baby Boomers!!! Or Military 🎖️ Veterans. Outside of that, this place is TRASH 🗑️!
@caesared I can't imagine it being as hot as (or hotter than) South Florida. And, being from Jersey, I didn't find it to be that bad down there.
Moving to Columbia SC? Home for Sale in The Falls Subdivision off HardScrabble Rd.
The top two CZcams results for visiting Columbia are worse than AI generated listicles. Every city has a river and parks and old houses. Tell me where to eat, drink, and have fun.
I know damn well Columbia not named after no Christopher Columbus 😒
Why not? That's the same with DC it was named after Columbus.
Of course it was.
Wow!! Never knew that 😶
I'm sorry this city is really boring the best greenville charleston years ago they went above columbia I'm sorry sad reality
Interesting, thanks for sharing this information. What other types of video would you like to see on our channel?
I just visited the city. It’s a nice city but yes it is bland or “one dimensional” like most American cities in the South and Midwest. But perhaps this will change your perspective. To me Columbia is more like a big version of a small town. A nice large version of a small town and it does look clean overall. A good place for a weekend visit during the winter if you live up north just for a change of pace. So it can serve that purpose
Yep I'm from Columbia. That's why I moved in 2016 to Atlanta GA. I got depressed it was so boring.
I'm from North Jersey where it's crazy and busy at all times. I'll be moving to the South soon. Likely, to this area where boring is welcomed.
U missed da zoo in SC.
Boring city
May we ask why?
Or the random confederate flag displays lol
