More people should listen to the NSR soundtrack. Terribly underrated game with an amazing OST. Fan projects like this do the game justice by raising awareness of such a gem.

It’s in a weird place where I have not played it, and mostly just saw clips and read TV Tropes, but it’s still very much a core musical memory. It’s the game you hear about (no pun intended) from the soundtrack first and the game second.

Edit: Man the further this goes the wilder the execution demands get. I am at song 3 now and this is strictly an art piece that isn’t meant to be played by mortal hands

i have to say. this is a visual masterpiece. the clear themes with every character's song, the mini cutscenes in the middle of the levels, i can tell this was made with pure appreciation and passion for the game. my autistic brain loves this.
Me analyzing all of the game choices for each of the bosses themes, why…..because I can. Are these the reasons why they were chosen, probably not, but me don’t really care.
DJ Subtonic Super Nova:
0:16 This was chosen mainly because of the space theming is my best guest. Not to mention it just has that kinda of feel and vibe with DJ SSN.
0:32 DJ, do I need to elaborate further.
0:47 I think this was chosen because of both the robot theming but also the glaring background, giving it the space feel.
0:49 Rockets, space. Nuff said.
1:03 this is really interesting because this is a representation of Mayday herself. The Guitar and everything, and will be used more after the fact in the next bosses, which I very like this continuity.
1:33 Galactic baseballs, space and aliens. But also, this is a great way to show and establish the songs and the gameplay over all getting harder and way more difficult. Because after this, everything moves, also indicating in the actual game the next phase in the boss fight.
2:06 My best guest for this is robots, which relates to space and the whole techno DJ vibes.
2:44 this zoom in is amazing.
4:40 the build up to then next boss fight is great, then everything is white and black, mimicking the actual game boss fight. Which is genius.
SAYU
6:37 Water, swimming. Nuff said
6:48 Fish! Nuff said.
6:58 This is kinda random, but also makes sense. The picture on the background, representing the sea and this Sayu. But it could also mean something else, it could mean the components of working together but also competing, like the 4 students that make up Sayu has to do or something.
7:09 again with relations with the sea. But this could also signal the idea of the 4 students working together to create Sayu, working in somewhat harmony to create a single creation. Or something.
7:19 idol poses and the whole idea of idol
7:30 Frstival lights and foreshadowing to the fact of the neon colors that’s are going to happen later.
7:52 idol, literally. But this part also represents the second phase as the images afterwards are pretty distorted like how Sayu is malfunctioning in a way, or is soon going to like in the game.
8:03 again Mayday.
8:13 Forgot his name :(, but this game is a representation of him, the drummer guy.
8:58 this was a cool way to set up the next phase.
9:10 The colors are just like this phase in the game, that’s amazing.
10:13 when things go kinda normal, indicating the final act of the boss fight.
10:54 choosing this game for the end is so evil. It matches with the fact that the changed album cover is them fishing Sayu.
YINU:
11:56 This shows how the Mother takes care of “pests” or people who mess with her special little angel, amazing. Not to mention the scenery was great to use for the beginning shot of this boss battle.
12:08 The little girl is an obvious representation of Yinu, but also it shows how she is like a flower who bloomed with the magic of her own talent.
12:21 this seems so random until you realize the game that was to represent the mother is connected to this game, since she is picking these guys up. These onions (radishes?)….things are representing the audience. I will explain the significance when we get to the mother’s game.
12:46 Mayday, but also a great way to show the added guitar and just change of tone the song goes as it gets harder.
13:14 this is kinda a representation of how the Mother does everything to make sure everything is in perfect order and fits just right just for her daughter.
13:36 This is the game representing the Mother. She is taking in the audience (the onion-radish things from earlier) and placing it in the bag, representing the fuel she is getting to continue and encourages her daughter’s career. Something to keep in mind is that she is tossing and kicking out the moles, representing she is taking out unwanted people possibly messing up the future of her daughter.
15:05 Drummer dude.
15:38 this part was so hardcore and amazing, loved it.
16:08 I love this part as it matches the pain Yinu feels, as she is so angry, it goes uncontrollably fast. And after this it’s also rapid speed to show the angry and the emotions as the song is playing.
Also, I didn’t mention this before there has been parts where the spot light is positioned, showing the stars of that section or points to emphasize.
17:14 This part is amazing, because it shows basically the final moment where Mayday and drummer dude works together to finally beat Yinu

17:49 Clapping cats, matching the synch the robots have with each other.
18:04 this is representing the popularity and famousness of 1010
18:34 perfectly shows what 1010 is like, 4 robots following a commander.
18:48 robots being made, just like 1010
19:05 drummer dude. :)
19:17 Again showing the 4 robot dudes and showing how the are being controlled by a commander.
19:32 Showing the fan girls of 1010, but also representing the matching best the robots have with each other in a way.
EVE
22:03 oh the drummer guy is name Zuke, totally forgot. Well, I’m not changing anything just going to call him Drummer dude. I came too far to change it now.
22:14 Shows the affection and love aspect of Eve and drummer dude :) relationship.
22:21 shows the symmetry and yet color difference that Eve strives for.
22:30 Red and white, Eve main color scheme, but also represents symmetry in this gameplay.
22:38 idk why this is here. Maybe to represents the struggle Eve went through after the breakup or something.
22:45 idk as well.
23:19 This wonderfully shows how Eve works, the different sides of pink and white with perfect symmetry, amazing.
23:33 the see saw, though together showing it cut off is a genius way to show how Eve feels about Drummer dude :). Though they are spectate and no longer makes a complete see-saw they were once whole.
24:39 Also love the change that this is only one drummer, showing the closeness and impact and feel of Eve and the drummer dude. Showing he is special to Eve, just like the game.
26:32 oh wait the alterations to the game representing Eve and the game representing the drummer dude is actually very smart, kinda conveying them talking to each other.
27:02 Then ending with the best looking at the two donuts, like Eve understanding they are on two separate people and no longer going back to what is been yet is still sad.
Tatiana:
28:12 The monkey clapping with each other representing time moving down the line and the representation of the other employees following the rule of Tatiana.
28:23 Tatiana as the instructor of everyone else, pretty cool.
28:40 again this is like showing a person controlling others, like a monkey see and monkey do kinda thing.
28:45 this kinda shows how Tatiana is shutting down certain ideas or people who oppose her.
29:10 Mayday, fighting back with both her music and the fact that she is colored unlike the games of Tatiana.
29:from this point onward, there are examples of the previous boss fights in the game in order of who you fight. Which is so clever, especially for the final boss. Doing mini games you did before, but for the final boss is so cool and epic.Showing that NSR is truly a collected group.
33:36 this part where it slowly changes into color showing how stuff is being changed within Tatiana’s heart and how Mayday and Drummer dude changed her for the better is amazing.
Believe it or not, but I had so much more to say, but my phone started to glitch out because I am writing too much. So this is it for now and ever I guess. Again this is my speculation on the choice of the games, but even if this didn’t even cross your mind, this was still wonderfully done.

Some of your reasons you're looking too far into, but the way you're able to find reasons in em is super impressive! Here's a little bit of my mindset on some of these:
The dough minigame was there because of the spaceship in the background, much like DJSS launching the nsr satellite.
The eve minigame with the hand was to represent her giant bodypart attacks, and the one with the brush was refence to her being a physical artist, as well as a musical one.
The only Tatiana games I picked with meaning ws the spinning one, because they are literally CEOs, and the monkey watch one, because of, well, time. The other two I kinda just picked because my mind said it felt right, but I didn't have a real reason for em. I didn't have a good selection of games to fit her.
BTW, the drummer dude is called Zuke, just so you know
I also love in Tatiana’s fight where they’re going through all the other boss fights mini games. The last ones for each shown are the most like the boss they represent. Like the mini’s that identifies most with that character like from 32:25 and on
i miss seeing content from NSR it had so much love put into it and recieved almost 0 attention

So kind of off-topic with the video, but it only just occurred to me why, exactly, Yinu’s boss theme sounded familiar to me when I first heard it, and only just now:
That is Kirby final boss music.
Like I know neoclassical is a thing, and that the EDM fusion is meant to be a mechanical/story thing, but Yinu’s theme is right at home on any Kirby game between the Wii and the modern day

This must be some kind of cosmic coincidence because I only just recently picked up No Straight Roads for the first time due to the Steam Summer sale, and then suddenly this comes out.
I really hope this gets all the attention it deserves because this is so awesome. I missed No Straight Roads so much :')

I love all remix not only based on each stage of each bosses, also got Yinu's Frezny state and also make the piano breaking cue at the end
and how the visual effect show the later phase where all the bosses at mostly broken but still want to fight until the last moment
and also OH GOD how I love the vs.TATIANA which is almost not only a boss rush combine all NSR artists style, but also like make TATIANA remember the color of ROCK
Super fun video! My only critique is that the visual effects can be a little hard on the eyes at times. In moderation, the visual effects are extremely nice, but when they flip the screen quickly or the screen becomes very pixelated it can be a little much. Still, very good job! I actually do really enjoy the creativity and usage of most of the visual effects, it’s really only one or two that’s hard on the eyes
That's valid! I knew a couple parts would be a bit intense, but I personally liked em so I decided to keep them knowing there'd be people who wouldn't. I hope that's okay!

oh Man this is super impressive!! all the choices were Super on point, and a lot of the little 'cutscene' bits got a laugh out of me ^_^ very very excellent job!!! (especially a shoutout to the editing on EVE's section, that was Fantastic!)
Eve has always been my fave, so seeing a Rhythm Heaven game so closely tied to her character was very pleasant :)

THE INTROS AND BOSS BEATEN JINGLE AND ANIMATION ARE THE ICING ON THE CAKE. SO MUCH LOVE AND ATTENTION TO DETAIL! Plus, the harmonies or layers to the sound the rhythm heaven sound effects had at times? Truly their own remix!

I love NSR so much and rhythm heaven is such a classic to pair with the epic music from it! this was such a joy to watch from start to finish! Great voice clip excerpts, too ! The right ones to get the context from the game. Lock-step as the intro for Eve with the pink and white got me 😭 ,, the video editing, also. Ough.. and the compilation of all the others' in the final mix with Tatiana. chef's kiss,,

This is so good! I love how youve matched everything to the songs, and the cutscene sections are really well done!
So quick question: is this meant to be playable? Besides the screen effects being a little extra, some of this is fast approaching cheap difficulty, like the occasional Mach 5 bits of Yinu. It’s still great, and at the end of the day as somebody with two left hands for rhythm games, I get glee from the visuals and sound effects added to stuff I know. I just wanna know if this is meant to be played by mortal hands
Yep It's fully intended to be playable! If you look in the heaven studio discord where I posted it, you can even see where a user has superb'd all the remixes on their first try.
The yinu parts aren't actually nearly as bad as they look, and the couple of custom cues on drumming practice and dj school are actually explained in the remix description.
Baring a couple exceptions, I do try to keep my remixes as audibly fair as possible, so no matter what the visuals do, you can tell what's happening by sound! That being said, the Skill star on the last song actually a bit cheated, it goes into auto play there for a second because there was no good way to cue in a single together strum, but I wanted it in the song really badly

Edit: Putting this edit at the front so it's read, but I do want to make sure my whole comment is read so: Whilst this does start with a critique, I do also really love this, so there is a fair amount of praise and gushing at the very end - so do please read the whole comment as you deserve the praise! :D
My main critique is that I have spotted a few moments that don't exactly follow the game rules. Like the section with the two guitairists early-ish into Yinu's theme where the second guitairist does what to me at least looked like a different pattern - that would be completely unplayable in the games, as that's not how that mini-game works. On this one I could be mistaken, as the pattern is long anyway, so it could just be the difference in the backing music making me think its a different pattern. Later in Yinu's you also had a drummer section where it looked like your middle drummer didn't drum when the other drummer's did.
I do understand this is meant to be more of a visual fun piece than anything playable (and honestly, whilst some of the visuals do get too much sometimes, you did AMAZINGLY from a visual standpoint!), but I think at bare minimum the game rules are important to stick to, to at least keep the illusion that maybe it could be playable. Also to make this clear: I'm not complaining about parts that likely would be too fast for most people to play but do still stick to their respective game-rules, I think those are really fun to see in custom remixes. I'm only complaining about parts where it breaks the mini-game rules.
But also seperately to add some more praises, since you do deserve it - I LOVE the minigame selections for each one! They all fit in so well with the characters! And also the split-screen sections on eve with lockstep, the see-saw one, and the boucy fruits ones? That was AMAZING-
@@archerestarcher i understand your critiques, lemme explain here.
The guitar patterns were always the same, there's no physical way within the program to make em different though that guitar skill star in Tatiana's song is cheated a bit. There's no way to make a single "strumm together" like that, so I made it go into auto play after the first strum, and before the dj school segment.l so someone expecting a normal pattern wouldn't automatically lose due to an unfair setup.
Also drum practice has a visual issue for some reason, it still plays completely normally, but sometimes when you do fast drums like that, the animation of the middle guy screws up, but if you play it, it still works fine
@@youcantbeatD Ah so the drumming is only a visual error in the video, and I was likely mistaken for the pattern in the Yuni section then. That makes sense.
