Abingdon 2023 - 3.02
Brighton 2024 - 3.15 (failed sub 3 attempt)

Definitely getting closer

Nice list of marathons & some great places to run 🏃♂Well done with breaking them all down on the video 👍
Thank you. Well done if you made it all the way to the end!! Haha
@@FilmMyRun I did, as I kept on wanting to know which marathons you’d done 😂
81 marathons, Jesus Christ! I'm about to do my 3rd marathon this Saturday down in lovely Dorset (Lulworth Cove). Got 2 marathons and 2 Ultras booked in 2024
Aaah we are off to Dorset this weekend. Only running parkrun though. Lulworth Cove is a beautiful place especially in the summer. Have a great time.
Such an incredible CV! Huge kudos Stephen! 👏 All of that and we haven't even touched the ultras. Mind blowing! 👏😎🤘
Haha thanks Ben, looking back it does seem like quite a lot of work! But hugely enjoyable and I wouldn’t change any of it
Having (illegally) competed in a 15 mile road race at the age of 15 (93 mins) I knew I would eventually race 26.2 but waited until Iwas 25 (2;47 in 1974) I ran a couple more '77 (2.41) and 1981 ( 2.44) but like so many really started to take the event seriously in 1982 ( 5 run best 2:29 London) The following year I ran 4 (best London 2;25.36) 1984 I decided to stay up north and won 2 (Morecambe and Selby) 3rd Bradford 6th Leeds 10th Barnsley) Several moew in the '80s (2;27 to 2;36). Left the event alone for a few years before "swansong" race in Amsterdam 2:50 (age 49) So a mere 26 in all nothing compared to your 81+ !! But all under 3 hours and I'm proud to be able to say won 2. Terry Lonergan
Terry that is incredible. What a career. I mean I’ve run more marathons than Kipchoge but I’ve a feeling his achievements rank above mine!! Haha. 26 sub 3 hour marathons is something I can only dream of. Well done.
Great vid good to see your proggresion over tne years especially enjoyed the 11 Paris marathons where I'm heading in April will be my 4th 👍
Fantastic Dave. Good luck with it!! And thanks so much for watching
I love watching your many marathon videos Stephen! Endless hours of entertainment during lockdown! I’m only on 15 marathons with 3:39 being my best time. At 52 years old I’m pretty proud of that 😊
Thank you Christina, 3:39 is superb at any age. London and Boston qualifier right there.
@@FilmMyRun Thanks very much Stephen! It was my dream to qualify for Boston and I’m going back for no.3 in April 😊 I actually ran 3:39 at Boston last year 😊
Nowhere near you Stephen best was FLM 2008 in 3:49 !
131 official marathon/ultra finishes
Your such a legend Stephen! Such an amazing running career so far 💪
Amazing how quickly they all add up! Thank you for watching!
Boomshanka-amazing achievements!
Q1) Is the Portsmouth Coastal in Dec?
Q2)a-What age did start running marathons again??b- How many marathons road:trails have you done on average?
Great video as always would love to see a graph plotting your PBs trail/road-I know trails vary considerably but... some outstanding performances along your journey
Hi Alf. Q1 Yes Portsmouth Coastal is in December the week before Christmas usually. Q2a. I ran my first marathon aged 42. b. I have a spreadsheet so I can tell you exactly!! I've done 24 road races and the rest are multi-terrain. I've had a go at doing some graphs. I did in my original 'How I Ran a Sub 3 Marathon' video from 3 years ago.
This is a really good video because it shows a large number of races, different conditions, different terrains and a huge spectrum of results. It's not a big look at me! I am a natural! It's look at me, I have run just like you some days and I have progressed, had a lot of off days, bad training blocks and some great days, persevered and got some great results. Well done! To everyone doing their first marathon this year! practice wearing your kit and taking your gels/hydration during your training block, go nice and slow for the first 3km and dont have any music on for at least the first 1km . . . listen to those crowds . . they are for you! Well done for doing a marathon . . . Enjoy it . . 42.2km is going to have highs and lows but the ending is incredible . . . looks strong for the photographers, enjoy the moment and then eat all the food you like !!!!
Aaah thank you so much Paul and I totally echo your sentiments.
You are amazing 81 marathons wow
Great to see you doing so well in Paris, how about this year? Aiming for a PB there myself. Some very hard training left to do though!
Unfortunately I have been unwell since the turn of the year. Was supposed to start my training block in Jan but just haven’t been able to. Run out of time now so no pb attempt this year. Have to wait until next year.
Excellent work Stephen. Kudos for carrying a camera also. My best is 3.39. I've done about 25 marathons. I'm generally happy if I can get under 4 hours. Most of mine have been fairly flat other than Keilder Marathon which I've done 3 times. You'd think it would be flat running around a reservoir, but it isn't. Did the inaugural one in 2011 & ran with Steve Cram at mile 15 for a bit, then he left me in his dust. 😂.
Love your motivation on Zwift. ❤
John Farrell
Oooh John did you run the year that guy got the bus?!!
@@FilmMyRun Yes I did, I think that was the first year also in 2011. My time that year was rubbish & prepared better after that. 😂
Easy to remember...I ran 42 standard marathons...40 between 2hr59m21s and 2hrs 28m28s...my slowest was on the one Iron man I did...3hr20m.....I did 7 marathons in 8weeks at one point...all between 2hr45m and 2hr47min...
50 ..10km races
60.. half marathons
15.. 32km races
16.. 56km races
4 ..54km races
10 ..50km races
3 .. 64km races
4 ... 90km races
The rest I cant remember...
That’s a really impressive CV, nicely done. 40 sub 3 hour marathons is quality. And 2:28 is special.
2:42.10 (John) and 2:56.10 (Dawn).
Interesting spread of results there with no 'near misses' on the Sub 3s. You seem to have had a massive jump in fitness. Or were many of the road marathons training runs for Ultras?
Purbeck Marathon looks beautiful. Will see if it'd still on.
I never believed I could run sub 3. Then I started 80/20 and my HR dropped and my endurance improved. Then I actually trained properly for a sub 3, which I had never done before. I still think I have a shot at 2:50, but we’ll see. Well done on both your fastest times. Really good both of you.
Great video, very jealous all the places you have run!!! I started running about 5 yrs ago was over 18 1/2 stone!! Managed to run Chester 2023 in Oct in 3hrs 42 (strangely hot day) which was a 14min PB for me was well chuffed (also did my first 2 ultra marathons in 2023)
What a result! I was once told that you should ALWAYS celebrate a PB so I hope you did. What were your two ultras?
Dukeries was the 1st one around Clumber Park, Notts 42 miles nice flat/runnable great scenery and also did the ‘Nomad’ 31 miles which is around Derby (where i live) love the atmosphere/people at ultras so friendly
@@marcessex891 well congratulations. Although it’s a slippery slope. You’ll be doing more soon!!
My best marathon results 2:58:16 at Newport ( very flat and fast course)
Brilliant result. Newport is regarded as a really good one for PBs. Must do it one day.
You are brilliant..I did 4 marathons in one year, 2018.Kent spring marathon. Dambuster challenge . Chelmsford parks.and Farnham pilgrim ..
Loved Chelmsford.hated Farnham..
Munich 3:34. Bib number 334 😂
Wow, what are the chances?!! Great running
Many amazing achievements
Thank you Amy. You are beginning to rack them up now. That’s two Beachy Head marathons so far. You did say you were definitely signing up for another….
@@FilmMyRun no chance I’m running that again. I think Brighton will be my 6th “official” marathon. I didn’t think that would ever happen
@@amygreen1015 you have to make it at least 10
Crikey that’s a lot of marathons! 😂 goes to show how no two marathons are the same and there is a lot of variation. A sub 3 marathon PB is outstanding. It’s my first marathon in April so I’m looking forward to seeing got I get on 👍
Mike, I think you’re doing Brighton is that right? We must meet up and say hi at the start or after.
@@FilmMyRun it’s Ashford not Brighton sadly! I think it’s the week after. Would love to meet up sometime this year 🙌
