I don't understand how every one says Peanut custard jelly time is their favourite song by the black shadows. Just because it's the most successful one? You're all fake fans. My favourite song was the one about Paul the squirrel.
True, ‘Peanut custard jelly time’ was a fun song but I think a bit too overplayed and overpraised. The lyrics were quite basic. ‘Paul the squirrel’ was a better song, definitely lyrically. But that song is difficult for me to listen to, because that was written by William not long before the break-up and in the second verse he already subtly alludes to things going sideways for the band, and my eyes just start to water every time that second verse comes up. So my favorite is ‘The computer mouse in my left pocket’. It was a really funny, charming song, showing boys just being boys. I just recently realized that John, William and Steven wrote this song together pretty much right before the Buckingham-break-in scandal. Whatever the media says, I believe the boys are completely innocent, I think ‘The computer mouse in my left pocket’ is proof of how innocent and good these lads were at that time. But the media just likes to spread lies and sensationalize things. That’s why I think the boys decided to just settle it for a huge amount of money instead of dragging it out in court, they just didn’t want all the sensation so they just took a hit (by paying) instead of dragging it out until they were proven innocent. But still that scandal was really the beginning of their end. Unfortunately because of the huge fine, after the break up William was never able so self-produce his solo album like he planned. I’m certain he would have been amazing solo. And honestly if Niall had not been in Malawi for charity work during the entire Buckingham-break-in scandal, I don’t think he would have ever been able to salvage his career like he did. Thank God for that, at least one of our boys still standing. Gosh, I think I’ll just go and cry now while listening to their first songs when things were all still going so well for them. T_T Glad to see some true Black Shadows fans like you out there.
Yea what about their album 12pm memories? The entire album was so underrated and honestly I think “Daan Absquatulated” was a rly good song that deserved more praise. And what about “THE GARDYLOO IS COMING WATCH OUT” ? It’s so good!! My personal favorite is “the flying goose”

I think the album flopped bc of controversial songs like Peanut Butter Custard Jelly Time and Kevin the Pigeon. They were totally underrated as a band with such strong lyrics. I miss them sometimes.
