Nobody can argue that the protesters aren't physically stopping other people unless they also argue that the cars can keep driving without stopping. Therefore, since the protesters are physically stopping people, then the crowd should have every right to physically stop the protesters from physically stopping them. If nothing else, take their backpacks off and scatter their belongings around on the side of the road to ensure that the protesters have to stay busy collecting their stuff. Then just keep taking their stuff, including their phones that are recording and throw them in the woods to keep the protesters busy so that society can operate as intended.

This actually happened in Austria. A man died because of them. One statement I can remember was from them, that they didn't block the ambulance, they "just" blocked the road... As far as I know, some of them were arrested as a result and the protests subsided

I agree that it's beyond annoying to be delayed in these situations and that there needs to be reasonable lines drawn while respecting people's right to protest. That said... You can't hurt someone with your car because they annoy you. You can't hit someone in traffic because they cut you off or drive too slow, you can't punch someone in the face if they bump into you on the street. It's just the way things work, and it's a good thing.

I once was part of a protest against a soda tax. We did it the day before the tax went into effect and had our picket signs. We then had a cooler full of soda and other beverages and we offered people a "tax free" soda and told them that the next day it was going to be taxed even higher. We raised awareness, we got some people to take our position, but we were LIKABLE. That's what these protestors don't understand. You need to get people to like you in order to gain support.

I agree that it's beyond annoying to be delayed in these situations and that there needs to be reasonable lines drawn while respecting people's right to protest. That said... You can't hurt someone with your car because they annoy you. You can't hit someone in traffic because they cut you off or drive too slow, you can't punch someone in the face if they bump into you on the street. It's just the way things work, and it's a good thing.
This is what happens when the authorities don't do their job. Eventually people reach a breaking point and will handle it themselves.

I once was part of a protest against a soda tax. We did it the day before the tax went into effect and had our picket signs. We then had a cooler full of soda and other beverages and we offered people a "tax free" soda and told them that the next day it was going to be taxed even higher. We raised awareness, we got some people to take our position, but we were LIKABLE.
