The Green Bay Packers aren't playing 'follow the leader' with new DC Jeff Hafley

  • It's been years since the Green Bay Packers hired a defensive coordinator who was setting the trends rather than following them. Jeff Hafley may finally be the exception. Plus, would you rather have the 2021 WR room or 2024?

Come on! Rodgers wouldn’t throw to the receivers we have now. Last year he would have said he can’t trust them because of the screw ups in the first half of the season. Then there would be no second half like we saw and no one would be talking about them now. The best thing for the 2024 receivers was the trust and patience from LeFluer and Love last year, that could have never happened with Rodgers in Green Bay

Your only saying that because of the media. Rodgers carried the packers virtually his whole career. Though it may be true they might not have recovered unless rodgers felt they were ready, that isn't because rodgers is an asshole, it's because he has a standard and less patience for mistakes. That tends the happen when you get older. Love has patience because he hasn't done anything career wise. But let's see what happens 12 years from now when he is seasoned and knows what it takes to win. He is going to do the same thing. Same with mahomes and any other seasoned QB. They are still around because they are good and can win and expect to. Tom brady was the exact same. So stop it

There’s a big difference. Love wasn’t good and the receivers weren’t good. Rodgers didn’t really have a time where he was bad and it wasn’t the receivers fault. He was patient with Doubs watson and with Adams.. Rodgers would not have them run that much youth because generally it makes no sense. Young players and teams don’t have success.. we just got lucky, won the right games because love improved and they opened the playbook up

Jeff Hafley recently sat down with Larry McCarren to discuss his team’s personnel, mentality, and defensive scheme just about a week before the 2024 NFL Draft. With organized team activities already underway, Jeff Hafley has finally been able to coach up his unit first-hand as an NFL defensive coordinator, but we aren’t yet fully sure what we’ll be watching on Sundays this season. Packers got really good players, very talented players. I think the DLine has depth, and they have some players who played their best football last year. The same thing I see at the linebacker position. I know Quay Walker and Isaiah McDuffie have kind of been the players at the end that were playing. And in the backend, you know, to have the best corner in football. One of the surprising quotes from here is that Jeff Hafley believes the linebacker unit has depth. Generally, most Packers fans believe that linebacker and safety are the squad’s 2 biggest positions of need, despite the fact that they’re unlikely to spend a 1st-round draft pick at either spot just due to the nature of this year’s draft crop. At the moment, the Packers 3 starting linebackers in a 4-3 base defense, which should be played more than Joe Barry’s 3-4 base as they’ll have more speed on the field, are Quay Walker, Isaiah McDuffie, and Eric Wilson. Isaiah McDuffie was a part-time starter, mostly as an injury replacement until he started taking over run-down looks from De’Vondre Campbell at the end of the 2023-24 NFL season. Meanwhile, Emmanuel Wilson has mostly been a reserve and special teams player for the Green Bay Packers. Forcing turnovers was an emphasis for Jeff Hafley throughout his interview. Matt Lafluer has mentioned several times that the Green Bay Packers will be moving away from Joe Barry’s match-based defense for a more vision “vision-based” defense in the secondary. The hope is that by playing defenders in looser coverage with eyes on the quarterback, they’ll be able to bait quarterbacks into different routes that defensive backs will be able to break on the ball for. On top of that, Jeff Hafley also mentioned that the new plan for the defensive line is to “get upfield as fast as we can”. Gone are the days when the Green Bay Packers planned to pack the box with interior linemen. Now, the goal is to create penetration and spill everything to the sideline, if it manages to get there. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛

17:54 that’s the biggest factor. It wasn’t that limited in 2021 playoff game. LaFleur just had to roll with those punches in those last two postseason games dealing with a qb who didn’t care about winning another ring. Wasn’t too much that he had to learn from that

“ Glass Haf Full” 😂 I like that
We don’t need a number one receiver. I would take our group over almost anything in the NFL right now. All young receivers/TEs, all getting their touches, and all working together which keeps this ecosystem going. What word did I keep saying? “All”..
We don’t have the clear #1 receiver, who is also probably a diva and a cancer to the team. We have good chemistry right now and the team is growing together as a unit.
The only clear #1 we need is our franchise QB Love. And when you spread the “Love”(get it) you create something that makes every player want to block for their brother. It gets everyone involved and playing for EACHOTHER and the team. I love this team right now and wouldn’t pick another roster.

The Packers don't need "stars." stars have to get PAID. get more than 2 of those and Cap Hell looms in the horizon and the SB window shrinks. other than 10...no more mega deals. would rather have a team FULL of good tier 2 guys than 3 or 4 mega deals that ruin everything.

If the money spent on Xavier McKinney to help shut down the passing game and force the opponent to run the ball in a pass-first league the next couple of years, then I believe the Packers will do well.
My concern at this point is the transition to a 4-3 defense along with a new Defensive Coordinator with two new safties.

The best coaches may have a preferred system. But it's their ability to adapt to and get the most out of their players that sets them apart.
Using some system just because it's popular isn't a long-term solution. The competition will find answers and then you either have to re-innovate or lose.

The issue was no one consistently got open and you know. We need 1 more olineman that can actually play. I think we will trade for one within a couple of weeks. Morgan isn't as ready as greenbay was hoping for. We'll know more when the pads come on. Caleb williams is a mystery, and Tanuta may need a month of reps to see if he can get back to where he was before his injury. We need someone good enough to trade in order to acquire a decent up and coming linemen prospect or journeyman.
