Hiking The Castle Trail - the Budawangs, Morton National Park NSW | April 2024

We completed The Castle Trail during the Easter long weekend in April 2024. Most people do it as an overnighter, but we allowed ourselves three days to complete it.
Day 1: Long Gully Campground - Cooyoyo Campground
Day 2: Cooyoyo Campground - The Castle - Cooyoyo Campground
Day 3: Cooyoyo Campground - Long Gully Campground.

We used All Trail for our GPS map but even then found it difficult to find the trail at times. Minor inconvenience - we traced our steps back and eventually found the right trail every time:)

It's not an easy trail, especially the ascent to The Castle but very rewarding.

Great video, thanks! Brings back memories of my two trips to the top of the Castle in the 1980s. You can bypass the saddle and instead head off to the east and pass through a tunnel to access the route up. When I was there there were no ropes in place, and we didn't need any, although there were some fairly exposed scrambles. It was also essential to keep track of where you reached the top, since the route down was not obvious.
