  • Tadej Pogacar Giro d'Italia 2024 lost stage 1 in Torino and the maglia rosa went to Jhonatan Narvaez because of a tactical disaster of the UAE team on the Maddona pass before Pogi blew away favorites like Geraint Thomas, Cian Uijtdebroeks, Antonio Tiberi, Ben O'Connor or Daniel Felipe Martinez on the Bivio di San Vito. Now Jonathan Narvaez or Johnny Narvaez will have to face an unleashed Pogacar in Oropa on stage 2 of the Giro d'Italia 2024.

    I'm keen to see what strategy team INEOS would deploy today. Surely it's GT and NARVEAZ leading the team for the time being.
    Primarily NAV can shadow and mirror POG's every move, while GT and the Race Director get insights off that.
    It opens up any other rider in the team to ride off ahead in break aways and force team UEA to work.
    That way they can react to POG's counter tactics.

      @@Avianthro I mean, UAE has a lot of OILmoney, they could buy awesome and expensive domestiques for Pogacar but UAE managers are ridiculous and insist to buy young riders for GC (instead to support Tadej, these riders compete against Tadej, the enemies in home).

      @Avianthro Před dnem

      @@mondociaociao Good point! So, the bottom line is that Pogi is pretty much on his own because UAE management has chosen to make it that way, and yet he can win on his own, but it's very doubtful that, without his super domestiques, Jonas could succeed as he has.

    • @mondociaociao
      @mondociaociao Před dnem

      @@Avianthro For example, Ayuso and ALmeida have already said that they WILL NOT PULL for tadej... and UAE accepts that! a shame. Jonas is phenomenal too, but I never watched him alone, NEVER, always supported for fantastic domestiques. Otherwise, I never watched Tadej supported! In this Giro is so sad seeing him alone, totally unprotected. Sometimes is a miracle that he doesn't crash. Will see! it will be a fantastic ToF.

    Pogi is right on schedule. He took 14 seconds out of the other GC contenders on the first stage. Tomorrow, the wheel sucker that did zero work today and won the stage won't matter. He is a nothing as far as the GC is concerned. By the end of tomorrow's stage he will be probably more than 2 minutes down with his so-called team leader Geraint Thomas. I'm laughing at you people that think it's a big deal Pogačar didn't win the stage. He didn't need to win. He took time out of the people he needed to take time from. It's sad that he finished on the podium of a short stage, and took time out of all his rivals, and you people are crowing that he didn't win the stage. Just plain silly.

      @johnbriggs1038 Před 13 dny +3

      @@user-bw9wz1jd9l I would be in agreement with you if it was a one day race, but this is a grand tour. Three weeks of racing....you don't go from 50 kms out on a grand tour unless it's near the end of the grand tour. He could have probably went on the second to the last climb because it was much longer and broke everyone and won the stage. But with a grand tour, you have to think about not using yourself up. The last climb was steep, but not long enough. Even if he doesn't win tomorrow (which I doubt) he is just fine as long as he beats the GC guys. There are a bunch of chumps that can win a stage, but they have to take a rest afterwards. They are zero threat to GC. Greg Van Avermaet was the perfect example. He could win a stage, but not the tour.

      Narvaez already said in his interview his not interested in keeping it …. He wanted stage 1 so mission accomplished for him .. he just humanized Pogacar … there was no Alien today just a kid with a knucklehead team strategy … Narvaez obviously was going to stay at pogacars wheel …he is no GC contender … it was Pogacar’s responsibility to the giro the Italia millions spent on him and the massive marketing that he’s is coming to the giro … no legs for him .. and if he plans to take same strategy again well let me tell you he is going to fail at winning the giro …. Pogacar was beaten today …accept it .. that’s all that Narvaez wanted ..stage 1…and he took it from Pogacar …so happy for him #proudecuadorian
