  • Hi Everyone, Today's video is a short comparison on the advancement in head construction Ducati made between the 749/999 series of testastretta engine heads and the later 848/1098 series of heads.
    Its amazing to see the developments made in just over 7 years as the testastretta moved into its last evolution before the panigale series of engines replaced the older belt drive engines as Ducati's principle superbike engine.
    I will also do a short video to compare the early '94 desmo engine cases against the '10 testastretta cases.
    Sorry for the delay in bringing this next video out, it turned out I had a damaged card in the camera not a corrupted file.

    Great to see a side by side comparison. Now zip a head off that ole Panigale engine you have lying around and let’s nerd out on the crazy departure of the superquadro design.

      @@DesmoWerx at least it's not a bevel 😱. I need a pair of oversize 860 pistons, can't find anything reasonable. You don't know where I can get a decent 996/ST4S barrel do you?

    Cool video. What are your thoughts on early Testastretta belt change intervals? Ducati specified them to be 2yrs/12,000 kms for my my 998, but on current models it's now 5 yrs/30,000 kms. What changed over the years to allow for the longer intervals? I don't think the belt path changed much, if at all. Maybe new belts are better manufactured? In which case a brand new 998 belt should be just as durable as any other modern Testastretta belt. It would be nice to have a 5/30 belt interval, but not if it's a major risk.

      I think what changed is that Ducati wanted to improve their sales of bikes and are finally coming clean about the fact that these belts last a lot longer than they led us to believe, without actually coming out and admitting it. Just my opinion. Fwiw, the belts on my 999 are 6 years old and haven't snapped.

    • @DesmoWerx
      @DesmoWerx  Před 3 lety +1

      Do you mean the cam seals? If so its the cam cover followed by removing the cam caps which pinch the cam seals in.
