    Holly Holms has lost 2 fights since beating Ronda and no one hates her. Ronda's lousy attitude towards her opponents and the game is what is making people hate her. She did not put a fight at all, looked exactly the same as in the Holms fight.
    Look at Connor, the guy got rocked against Nate. But he faced the media, went back to the gym and trained hard and came back to win. That is champion material.

      Conor made excuses for his loss, retired, was forced to come back or be stripped of his belt, got his headline ufc 200 spot scrapped because he wouldn't fulfill media obligations, was forced into some media for 205 but had a stipulation of doing less media, and is still looking to make "money" fights instead of defending one of his titles against a deserving opponent...that's champion material?

    • @Followthis1
      @Followthis1 Před 7 lety +3

      cattalkbmx Quote the "excuse." I never heard him saying an excuse
      All I heard him say is that it was his fault that he lost. Retired? I've never of that either. A deserving opponent? Who was that opponent? He destroyed all the featherweights so there was no need to defend that title so he moved up.

    • @geester
      @geester Před 7 lety +2

      Ronds chin isnt suspect but the way she just flailed her arms and poorly attempted to cover up shows she does not react well to getting hit with power or this time seemed woefully unprepared. If rumours are true that she did not spar during her training leading up to this fight then she really needs a better team around her.
      If your going up against the hardest hitting female striker in the 135ib division then surely one would assume you would develop some new techniques to either avoid or lessen the blows or get into the clinch faster and not from standing up i.e shooting for takedowns, double/single leg, parrying with her left arm which she had up during standing up.

      It's a matter of being able to take a real punch and recover/respond properly mentally and physically. She doesn't have a glass jaw, but if she takes a stiff jab from someone that knows how to throw one her whole game goes out the window. It freaks her out more than it should any professional fighter. She could still win fights against much of the division because most of the women don't strike like Holm and Amanda, but she is never going to be champion material again.

    • @irn8399

    MMA gloves are smaller (4 oz) than Boxing gloves and Nunes is the hardest hitter in the Women's Bantamweight division. Ronda was tagged cleanly 27 times yet she wasn't knocked down. Though she was on the verge of it. She does have a chin. Her boxing skills are just amateur. Head movement, footwork, etc. are lacking.

    • @kgt7500
      @kgt7500 Před 7 lety +17

      The issue with Ronda is that from the first clean hit she took (and the first one was basically a jab) she was out of the fight. She didn't eat the punch like people with strong chins do. When Meisha Tate lost to Nunes she took punches without becoming completely disoriented. Look at Ronda's feet after she got hit... she wasn't moving correctly.. she had her feet too closely together.. she completely forgot what she was doing. She wasn't knocked out but she was basically out on her feet after the first punch she took.

    • @tmcrocker1115
      @tmcrocker1115 Před 7 lety +1

      TheOriginalLuffy I completely agree. I used to workout with boxers and while I'm not myself a boxer I know what good footwork is and that's not it. She hops like a bird, her head never leaves center line and she never ever changes levels. Her chin is not the issue. Her striking skills are. Rondas ground game is strong enough that her coach needs to be focused on cardio conditioning and striking. Were I Ronda I would leave Glendale fight club and that idiot Taverdeyan and humbly accept Duane Ludwig's offer to train. She should have spent these 400+ days off training on her stand up game and working on footwork.

      Yea, that's what I thought. Ronda ate a lot of hard punches in 4 oz gloves and didn't go down.
      I think she CAN take a punch, just her skills needs more work, especially in the defense and footwork department.

    Her chin isn't the issue, she just has shit striking defense, she stands straight up with her chin exposed because she's looking to rush in high for the clinch, she was able to get away with that against girls with no striking power but against people with power she has struggled. If she sharpened up her wrestling and started shooting for TDs rather than grasping for the clinch she would likely have a lot more success against heavy hitters.

      Anesu Chimkupete She got stunned by a jab and was out of it after that. Yes she wasn't knocked out cold but you can tell after that jab connected flush it was pretty much over. How she was able stay on her feet it's everyone's guess. Probably of pride. Maybe Dean should've let the fight go on till she hit the canvas? Nah. And those punches weren't haymakers. Clearly, Rousey can't take a punch form top female fighters. She's exposed, her skillset is limited. Training over a year and still looked the same like the one that lose to Holm. She's slow, have average punching power and lacks basic skills. Taekwondo/Judo might have worked in the beginning but not when the others are seriously picking up on the sports. You can't teach a good chin, can't teach speed, might be able to work on your power with technics. She's going to have to forget what she knows and start over on everything in training if she wants to improve.

      All the boxing skills in the world can't give you a true FIGHTER's mentality. And Ronda doesn't have it. You can see that she panics and breaks mentally when she gets punched by girls who know how to throw proper punches. Just a good quick jab alone to Ronda's face and the fight is basically already over. Just like Brock Lesnar. He's one of the most intimidating scary human beings on the planet... but when he'd get hit by guys who knew how to throw proper punches, he'd turn into a big scared pussy cat. And that's what happens to Ronda too. Like I said, all the skills in the world can't give you a FIGHTER's mentality.

    My totally uninformed crazy theory is that the UFC needed to make female fighting popular. To do this they chose Ronda as a talented, attractive fighter and fed her fights they knew she could win or at least had a good chance of winning.
    Then she got cocky and started believing her own hype. She started doing all these things that had nothing to do with fighting, movies and such, and got too big for her britches in the UFC management's eyes. That's when they started giving her real fights.
    Along those lines, the UFC management knows that people love to see a champion rise but they like watching one fall even more: they made money on the rise and the fall of Ronda Rousey. And it was planned.
    Again, this is just my crazy theory. But it does sound plausible doesn't it?

    Ronda took a sharp jab and was already out of it. She stayed on her feet because of her conditioning and because Nunes does not knock out anyone with one punch though her punch is the best in the division. But Ronda's game is on the floor and her game plan should have been to take Nunes to the floor without any attemp to box with her. Misha had some success with Nunes with take downs and so did (Zingano) who beat Nunes on the floor. So where was Ronda's mat game? Ask her coach. Just my opinion.

      Why did people keep insisting that all Ronda has to do is take the fight to the ground? Does'nt she first have get in close to get her opponent to the ground? People just assume that her opponent is just going to let Ronda get in close and go to the ground.
      These fighters today are training to avoid Ronda's strength and not let her fight her game. They are not going to let Ronda grapple with them. That would be crazy. You don't fight to your opponent"s strength.

    • @tonyjones1560
      @tonyjones1560 Před 7 lety +1

      +Ellis James, Truth! Maybe the opponent is supposed to be so intimidated by the reputation of the other fighter that they just get in the cage and go limp or something, LOL
      I do think that Ronda has the physical skills to come back if she wants. Question is, does she (still?) have the mentality, heart and desire to be a fighter? IF she does, in order to have a prayer of being champion again, she's got to (1) realize that what brought her this far will take her no farther. The Holm/Nunes Blueprint on how to murk Ronda Rousey is out there and has gone viral (2) it's a VERY good idea to ignore people who tell you what you want to hear in lieu of the truth and (3) she needs people who will coldly assess her skills, point out the flaws so that she be teachable and work on them and lastly (4) learn to recognize hype; play to it (if she wants) in public but NOT in training (closely relates to #2; kid, Floyd Mayweather would destroy you).
      If she doesn't have the heart for it anymore, call it a career. IMO, the longer it takes her to make a public statement increases the odds that when that statement comes, it'll be a retirement announcement. A defeated fighter who still wants to fight (IMO) would have shown up at the post-fight and said *something.*

The UFC basically paid 3million plus to destroy one of their only ppv draws. It's debateable that she even deserved an immediate title shot. Franklin got destroyed by Silva and had to work back up. Same with Hughes/GSP, Rashad/Lyoto, And others. Ronda should've came back and fought a grappler or someone less dangerous. Zing amp, McMann, Kaufman, Tate, Baszler etc.

    Laila never fought the Holms and Nunes of boxing. People wanted Lucia Rijker, Anne Wolfe and Leatitia Robinson. Instead she fought people she already KO'd, fighters with weights in their pockets to make weight and MMA fighters doing some boxing.

    Very classy response from Laila this time, but I dont think Rondas chin is the problem. The problem is her defense and all round boxing skill. Its just not up to the level of the top strikers in her division so she will always do badly when put against a striker. I really hope she fights again, but she needs to improve her stand up a lot, and fight some of the lower ranked fighters for a bit.

    I'm glad to see many people in the comments point out Ali's nonsense about Ronda's chin. I was expecting the comments to be complete biased cancer. There's nothing wrong with Ronda's chin; in fact, I was surprised at how good her chin was in that fight knowing how hard Nunes hits. There are just too many casual fans who probably never heard of Amanda Nunes until they Googled her before she fought Ronda. Nunes hits extremely hard, unusually hard for a girl her size, almost like she weighs 30 pounds heavier than she actually is. I'd say she hits twice as hard as Holly Holm.

    Her problem was she lost all confidence completely when the first big punch landed, which was in the first 12-15 secs, she has a fine chin but she just lost her shit when the first punch connected to her face, it was all down hill from there. Again, her chin is fine, it is about confidence and get your game back through adversity or at least have a viable game plan to win, maybe tried to take Nunes down or some shit, I know it is hard from being stunned but she was no way near out from the first few punches that landed on her face.

    she gots a chin, the messed up part is that she is scared a scared man can't win, she gets hit very hard she don't get mad or smarter she emediatly feels fear that's what happened fear,cause of what home did to her, she was hitting the mits on tv she was quick on point it was so good any child or normal person would say wow she's good, mitts don't fight back, I see her on tv hitting the mitts I'm like embarrassed for her.

    I don't get this whole,"can't take a punch" thing. Now I agree she can't box, but she took like 40 strong punches square in the face in 48 seconds without going down. And she took almost two full rounds of punches by Holly Holm before she got KO'D by a head kick, all with 4 oz gloves. I agree she can't box, but I don't agree she can't take a punch. I think Laila Ali is just shitting on somebody who's down.

    she can take a punch, she never fell down after getting smacked like a tennis ball a dozen times, the problem of course is the first jab that landed seem to force her to completely abandon her gameplan, after that she stopped defending and tried to clinch, it was ridiculous, she just hates being punched, remember that holly took her out with maybe the most powerful kick in women's mma, holly's legs are insane, teach her how to guard her face and box like a normal person and she'd be okay, those 48 seconds were mostly ronda trying to hug a boxer essentially, she went in like rocky balboa and lost like the real rocky balboa would lose against apollo creed

    Saying you need to be able to take a punch to compete is a really broad and false statement. Everyone knows Overeem has a glass chin and has completed for years at the very top. Look at khabib at 205 and earlier fights. A jab wobbles him and he's undefeated. Any top coach will tell you the last thing they look for in a fighter is their chin. In fact, many of the top ones have said that a good chin can hinder a fighter because they're over reliant on it

    if the idea of being able to "take a punch" is based on the condition of just standing there and let people hit you on the chin then NO ONE CAN TAKE A PUNCH because that is exactly what rousey did. she wasn't defending properly with footwork or movement, so she was eating everything that doesnt mean she cant take a punch but that she doesnt know how to defend or roll with the punches.
