The difference between Gyles and other people who don't know when to shut up, is that Gyles is genuinely interesting and entertaining and can laugh at himself.

I actually love his anecdotes.

I saw this episode and Mr Gyle Brandreth is at it for the whole show!
I thought he was very interesting and very, very funny. The reactions from the other guests was equally funny. A must watch episode!

Sally genuinely interested in someone's story is just so refreshing for some reason. She seems like a very nice person to hang out with.

His responses to rudeness plaster a smile across my face, even in joke, his ethic of thought just forces me to say aloud, even if I am alone: "Charming".

Giles is a master of comedic timing, delivery and misdirection. His stories always take the most bizarre and hilarious left turns into insanity.
He's a quieter version of Brian Blessed

Brandreth plays with his perceived character so well.
His, "Okay; you live and learn...", at 1:58, was brilliant. Smoothly self-aware.
I just caught that and it was a brilliant little moment. Hoping to find another comment about it and did.
"But I'm cutting to the chase, because I don't want to take up too much of your time!"

it is one of my favourite moments of all of QI "I once ate a human" and all of a sudden for a split second, its as quiet as a crypt :D

A fair few deviations, I would say, and a couple of repetitions, though certainly no hesitation.
They should do an April Fools' episode where Sandi asks the first question and the response is 30 minutes (45 for the XL version, of course) of one of Gyles' anecdotes
Best is in a latter episode where after a Giles anecdote Sandi reveals her script directs her to see if Giles can be persuaded to reminisce.
I love Gyles .. he’s just fascinating to listen to!

This is maybe the third time I have seen him on QI and I really don't have a good idea who he is but I find him hilarious, from the US.
He’s an ex Conservative politician, but also appeared on lots of panel shows in the 80s. He was known for his colorful knitted jumpers which viewers used to send in.
He used to bore me to tears, but I don’t mind him these days

That’s good. I think more people should learn to separate politics from personal life and entertainment. There are many people I love and enjoy watching even though I completely disagree with them.

I am a queer (trans, bi) and disabled US American.
A lot of Conservative / Republican US Americans think I don't deserve to live.
I can't really be friends with people who think I am an unnatural abomination or a parasite on society.

Doesn't it rather defy the point to edit this one for brevity? Reminds me of the time I was asked to edit a friend's screenplay (he was later arrested, but that's a different story...)
When it came to the Neverending Story, I was quite happy to find that I'd gotten the version that had been edited to end.

This reminds me of the time I caught the ferry over to Shelbyville. I needed a new heel for my shoe, so, I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Give me five bees for a quarter," you'd say. Now where were we? Oh yeah - the important thing was that I had an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time. They didn't have white onions because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...

That's an excellent idea. He has a book of theatre quotes but not of his own anecdotes. I would buy it.

He does a podcast with Susie Dent (of Countdown) called "Something Rhymes with Purple". Just do a quick search for it.

I think Gyles Brandreth is ace! I've always liked him since I was a kid when he used to appear on TV-AM from time to time. Good health to him!
Gyles is also a very talented author. I recently read his novel. Jack The Ripper, Case Solved. . its an outstanding piece of fiction.
I find Gyles incredibly interesting and witty and always have done throughout his career...on HIGNFY he is just in his own class

I'm American but love British panel shows along with British TV as a whole. The only way I can get some shows is via CZcams *ahem* unauthorized uploads. But Gyles quickly became one of my favorites even though I have no clue who he is nothing but loved whenever I run across him. Such a gem for a whole nation and more!

I absolutely adore Giles B. He can be educational & tell serious anecdotes with such an amusing irony and sense of humour that you find yourself laughing out loud. He has led an incredible life and I wish he was my best friend. Then I could invite him to dinner every week and charge my friends for the priviledge of sitting down with him (no, Giles, you would not get a cut. It would just be plain rude to offer your besty crude cash.)

I'm sure many have requested this: please do 'Gyles Brandreth's Anecdotes.' I've no doubt he has enough to make two videos. Series P Episode 3 and recently Series S Episode 4 were pack with Quite Interesting stories.

Why did they edit out the middle of the story? The cut out the best bit of when he had an onion on his belt.

Jimmy Carr was so out of his depth and you could almost hear his brain ticking over frantically thinking "How do I get a laugh?" Gyles, the master racentaur was outclassing him at every turn.
It took quite a long time, but I’m starting to like Giles.
