    this is off highway 90 between I 10 and the lake city fl airport. this is a dirt road that crosses the track at the prison there.this line has been here since the civil war. CSX uses this line a lot more now . a lot of UP traffic and BNSF. This line runs from jacksonville to mobile alabama and beyond .after huricaine katrina the line wasnt used as much and the antrak service stopped. but you never know what you wwill see. I have seen some good stuff along this line. thx for looking

    This is a very exciting video. I mean all transitions in the video blend really nicely. The excitement in you voice while providing intro moving onto junction bells then the howling horns of the train and the gradual yet power entry of the train till the end of the video. I have added it to my FAVOURITES.

    I heard about a guy who hitched a ride on a freight train in Jackson, Ms., which was going real slow at the time. He was planning on getting off at a town on the other side of Jackson, but by the time he reached that town, the train was going way too fast for him to jump off. It finally slowed down in Meridian (100 miles away) and he had to call somebody to come get him.

    Over here in Britain we have plenty of freight trains that do 75 mph (line speed permitting). At one time we had a freight train that did 90 mph on the West Coast Mainline but that didn't last.

    thx ,this area is a good railfan spot. this was probly two trains they put together in baldwin maybe. there are some hills.this spot is between lake city and macclenny where they move fast then slow down for the crossings in town. there is also a lot of other power like up and cr that you dont see a lot of like in folkston.

I've even seen some going so fast that before the gates come down after the signals been tripped the lead locomotives have already made it to the crossing turnout. Especially the ones here At Chaires Crossroad or Brickyard Road in Midway just 9 miles west of Tally

    @ErikHartog your right,, gas is not 8 dollars here yet so we are slow to use mass transit. we rely on cars to much. in europe most everything is close by and a short distance so you can take the train. here all roads lead to rome or new york ,tampa LA atlanta etc, we do have a solid interstate system . by the way they made a movie in 1964 called the train about the french stopping the art train. it stars Burt lancaster,, one of the greats,, and the train is one of my favorite flics.

  • @BobWeaver112
    @BobWeaver112 Před 15 lety

    That's not true. For starters, think of the track in New York. Amtrak will blaze through there at 90mph+, which means that the track is at least FRA Class 5, meaning that freight is limited to 80 mph. They don't do 80 mph because of equipment limitations, but they easily push 70. Plus, I've seen the speed limit charts for the Folkston GA area right from CSX. Intermodal is cleared for 70 mph.

    @Jemalacane That's true. It's a big difference, in my country you rarely see more that 60 carriages. And... most of the freight trains are not so fast. Anyway, the fastest freight train here travels with 50 mph.

  • @ErikHartog
    @ErikHartog Před 13 lety

    @Jemalacane Why European railroads are better?
    - If you miss a train in Europe, you just have to wait 15 minutes before the next one arrives, in the US you sometimes have to wait a day.
    - What does the size matter of a cargo train? They are twice as small as yours OK, but they drive 4 times more often a day.
    - Our trains are usually powered by catenary (electricity), you guys use fuel.
    - In Europe, you can get almost anywhere by train, in the US you often have to rent a car.
    Want more?

    I really hate the fact that CSXT sold this line from Pensacola to Baldwin like they did a few months back. Cuz now we don't see any long fast moving trains going through here. just cause you work for the railroad means nothing cause you probably work in a yard or only go out about 200 miles from your home so you know only what the company teaches you and what you experience in that area. i thought the same thing when i worked for UP but now that i am a rail fan i know a hell of a lot more than most of those guys who worked back with f units know. most of those guys have never been off there home tracks.

    I've been to Europe and traveled on their trains (between Poland and Hungary). Many are electric there, and also designed in the 60's and 70's which was pre "enviro" histeria. In other words, their efficiency stinks. The amount of juice required to power hundreds of miles of line considering line bleedoff, US trains will win the day on efficiency since the power created is consumed on demand. Before any of you sound stupid and debate me, read up electromagnetic effects around conductors (wire)

    I read a few stupid commentaires here.
    It is difficult to compare trains in USA and in EU as the networks (and purposes) differ! In short, trains are more frequent and faster in EU/USA where the only fast train is the Acela (EU technology btw). Fret trains are shorter in EU and generally faster because EU networks are quite busy and finding empty slots for fret needs to have them travelling at a speed similar to that of passenger trains. For a 100 mph fret see czcams.com/video/NNxg2JHjS_k/video.html
