Great show as usual Gil. Isles have the better goalkeepers. Odd how the PP moved all over the place and looked much better without Barzy. But then again, it was more of an expedition game. But I’d love to see that type of movement on the PP in the playoffs because Carolina puts major pressure and their PK but if you can get past that first wave of heavy pressure? They get tired fast and that’s when we can take advantage. Our PK is what it is, at this point. A zone PK that covers areas of ice and not players and that’s why our forwards are down way too low on our PK from my experience and in my humble opinion. Let’s go Islanders!
I have to agree with you. Barzy passes the puck incessantly on the power play. He is looking for the perfect set up and I get that, but you only have 2 minutes! Butch always says it, shoot the puck and good things can happen with rebounds etc.
The PK is a mess right now. You're right about the strategy but the execution is also poor. The special teams can't be a big liability. I hope they can rise to the occasion. Thanks for the comment, Ken.
Exactly ddonovan. Barzy does often look for the perfect play or he can hold the puck too long and kill time off the PP that way. When he's on, he's dangerous. Thanks for the comment.

isn’t that type of guy. Stuff like that doesn’t bother him, Gil can handle it. Even when we lose in 5; NYI almost always steals one of the first 2 games. NYI Win series if Dobson & JGP are close to 100% healthy & if we don't blow a multi-goal lead in 3rd pd.
This is there time now to show up . . This season has been a roller coaster for these guys but it’s time now I hope they show up and play . Palms said this team been kicked in the nuts to much this season let’s see what they do now

Good morning team. Welcome Zach! Gil, you know how much I love the cross over show. This one was no exception. It was an excellent show. However, I'm looking for a different result. Time to send the Hurricanes home for the season. I see the Isles eliminating the Canes. I hate making predictions, but I'm feeling confident here. There is always a strong chance I'll be eating my words, but I'm willing to risk it. I will say this, our PK better be on point. As for the predictions made by Martin & Martin, they were fair, in my opinion. On paper the Canes are the better team, but I'm looking forward to the games on the ice. Upsets happen. That's why we play the games. Or else the Rangers will be handed the Cup without contest. Everyone have a great rest of the day and weekend. Enjoy the game. Thank you for being a positive Islanders fan. Everything I watch and read makes me feel that the Hurricanes are supermen, and the Islanders are basically a laughingstock that shouldn`t even be here. I have seen many posts by Islander fans throwing in the towel. Back your team no matter what don`t spew defeatism. Let`s Go Islanders!

Was listening to Howie Rose talking about the other team at MSG and he said of course, the playoffs are a completely different animal. Last year Brindy was so much better coach. Now it is a heck of a lot closer. Low scoring. Isles will play “road game” style in both locations. Will the Canes take more chances at home? Guys like Holmstrom’s specialty is counter attacking. I know the Canes miss Trochek…he is a pain in the butt and on the draws. Last year the Canes were all banged up. Fast injury will hurt their D if he doesn’t play. Roy will have to readjust to playoff hockey as he has been away from it for a while. Also huge in the series is the Canes depth. The Isles cannot afford any injuries. Also watching Jarvis. He can be a hot head and still so young. Also Canes D pinch more than any team. Isles have to do better against that and Burns scares me. Another thing, if the Isles get a lead, can they protect it? They have a tough time with that. Also Barzy likes playing Roy’s style, but does he take more chances in the playoffs. Finally,
The Isles are happy to be there. When the Canes were eliminated last year they started to ask “how can we get better and win it…” ok and the fourth line. If we get anything from them…its like we are playing with 3 lines. They won’t see the ice with the lead, or trailing in the 3rd. Oh and the one thing that is unique to this sport…Puck Luck…the ice is small, the puck deflects, rolls and skips…my fave time in the sports year…let’s go! One question though, it the Canes are as good as the guy says, why didn’t they win the Pres trophy? I think it was their goal tending? We know how important that is.
They had issues with goaltending earlier in the year, lately it got better. The Isles clearing their own zone will be critical and they have struggled with it most of the season. Let's see how this series develops but I get the feeling it will be tight. Thanks for the comment, Alex.

I have to admit Gil, I am down in the dumps. No one is giving us a chance. I saw an ESPN analyst say, " a clean sweep by the canes is in order" with a laugh when asked about this series. I get that the Hurricanes have more talent and are favored but I believe the Isles have plugged the leak and could go on a run after what we saw in the last 8 games. Whoever thought Florida would beat a team with the best regular season ever last year. Let`s Go Islanders!
It’s the playoffs. Should be a grinding low scoring game which is good for our islanders. Bc we will not win in a shootout. Thankfully the playoffs are tight checking. Hopefully our defense and goaltending holds up. We need to be physical. This guy Zach thinks the scoring is will continue like the regular season. If they do, it will be a short series. I think it’s gonna be a tight, checking, physical games. Isles need to stop icing the puck, need to stop giving the puck back to the opposition when we get puck control. Can’t just have a shooting gallery against sorokin/Carly and when pelech, pulock, Aho, get the puck, they throw it back and run for a line change. Let’s push back with offense when we get the puck. No more dumping the puck out like last year. That’s u pelech. It’s going 6 or 7.
You never know, ddonovan. There are plenty of things that can happen but the Isles can win it if they a) get good goaltending b) stay out of the box c) exit their own zone consistently d) don't get dominated on special teams. Clearing your own zone is critical for the Isles. They got better at it under Roy after a while, but they have to be even better in this series to win it. Thanks for the comment.

I remember a series last year when isles pulled that gm. three out of their asses with the fastest four goals in playoff history. Then i remember isles coming out flat and losing next game. Then i remember isles facing elimination going to ot and losing gm. 6 at home. So i don't know what to think. Isles have a different coach and are hot going into playoffs. Canes are better with more scoring and top sp. teams. I guess isles have their hands full again. If they go can six again against a team 20 pts. better who knows. It will take a helluva effort to beat canes.

Our short-bus kind of special teams will sink us. Our goalies will need to play like deities and our skaters like saints to win this series.
Special teams are a big concern. Carolina's very good on PP and PK, the Isles below average on the PP and worst in the league on the PK. Thanks for the comment, Bob.

Gm Gil. I disagree with your description of Dobson. He's the QB on the worst powerplay in the league. He's far from elite on the defense. How many times did announcer Butch Goring call out Dobson for his turnovers?
He definitely has issues defensively and it's been frustrating all season. The problem is, without him, there is a huge dropoff at puck moving defenseman. You'd only have Reilly and Aho who can really move the puck and Aho is a defensive liability because of his size. Dobson is far from perfect, especially on D, but without him, there is a big talent drop offensively. Thanks for the comment, Eric. Always good to hear from you.

Not going to be easy. I mean, the isles are playing well at the right time and hopefully, if Dobson and Pageau are good to go, they're mostly healthy. Will take a big step up on ST to win this series as the Canes are near the top in both PP and PK. Thanks for the comment, lippscantelon9144
You guys are big market and we are "small market" - it's actually a big deal. Unless Tom Dunton addressed this directly with Bettman you guys are definitely not screwed. As a Canes fan I am pretty confident which team the officials have been directed as to which team they are expected to side with if there are any questions on the ice.
The Canes are one of the most physically capable teams in the league and can play a literally banging game. But come playoff time it feels like we aren't allowed to do that by the league while the big market teams expect leeway from the officials in this regard.

Bottom line... You guys can definitely advance beyond us even if we play decent.

Well I don't know how we got here, but that's not important. Now they can concentrate on match ups. Goalies of course goes to the isles. Also we have a scoring edge. We'll see about defense. The canes are very similar to the isles structure wise. Forechecking has to be relentless! Because theirs is going to be. Islanders need to be very physical if they want to complete. I think it will cause turnovers, which will result in offense. Anything can happen!!!! We pray to the God of hockey!!!! Great show Gil. LETS GO ISLANDERS!!!!!!!
