Fuji X100V | Too Much Hype?

- This video is about the Fujifilm X100V. More specifically, talking about whether or not this camera is overrated or worth the hype. As a filmmaker who also takes photos, these are my honest thoughts. Spoiler alert: I do love this camera a lot.

It was never about the power of the camera. Itâs how the camera made you feel.
Completely agree :)
or in this case made u look aesthetically carrying it around
@@takoflame4948 exactly this, they won't be able to point to any facts, just "feel"

Totally spot on!
Solid review. I know the feeling that Fuji cameras can bring. Itâs like a classic car that doesnât have all of the bells and whistles of newer ones, but is built to stir the soul.
That is a beautiful way to put it
it's not, a fuji camera has all the modern components and features.

Another great X100V love letter! If it makes you fall in love with photography again, then it ainât overrated!
Exactly! Finally in the X100V video club for uploading on CZcams hahaha
I just went to mc donalds, big mac made me fall in love with burgers again
The effort and skill that went into this video. đ„ You nailed it, Ed.
Thanks Joel :)
Stunning video! Iâm a first-time Fuji user. I eventually chose the X-S10 due to its better availability/pricing, plus the included image stabilization lets me use the 50-230mm kit lens (the kit came with 2 lenses) without a tripod. The film simulations are gorgeous and I never wanna go back to editing RAW files when I donât have to. Cheers!!
Awesome video! I have been waiting to get a 100V for a long time and suddenly there were some in stock at B&H I ordered just before a short trip to Mexico. Packed the mirrorless bodies and lenses and kept the 100V available to use. I did use the mirrorless and a couple of lenses but found that I used the 100V more and have been amazed by the quality of the images since getting home and looking at them in C1. It brings me back to when I fell in love with photography decades ago!
Love that for you! So crazy that you got some in that small window BH had some in stock. I feel the same way about the camera
@@edwardleefilms Next year V100VI release.
I'm definitely waiting
You are the person that completely changed my mind! This will definitely be my big upgrade from A6000 to this camera! Great work!
This video alone earned a sub from me. Well done. The quality, explanation, examples, and passion in your voice all came through. Mad respect
Thanks. That really means a ton!
Dude you guys killed it with this video! The talking set looks so crisp đ„
Thanks dude. It was nice to switch it up a bit for once!
Great video! Got mine in
June and have loved it!! Went from iPhone photography to this and itâs been so fun to use. Would have loved a Leica but this was a more budget friendly option!
Yes! This is a perfect camera before a Leica in my opinion. I'd love to own a Leica one day as well. But for now, this Fuji is great for me
Ed, I Have had mine for 3 weeks now and I love this thing, I have carried it with me every day, everywhere since then, thanks for your video.
Its so great right?? Love this thing
Great video Ed! I've heard many good things about the X100V and your review seriously puts it onto my want list. Great work!
12:49 "I don't want a moment to turn into a photosession"
SO TRUE, especially when I go on a holiday trip I don't really wanna bring my fullframe cameras due to the bulk of it and not enjoying the vacation as it's meant to be
Thank you! I can't tell you how many times I have brought a mirrorless with say a 24-70 out with me and for some reason felt more pressure to create really nice imagery which led me to not wanting to shoot. I know not everyone is like this - but it happened to me often and eventually just left the bigger camera at home. Unless its for client work or anything important, than of course the bigger cameras are still better.
Beautiful video! Thank you Edward!
Damn. This is the best review of the X100V I've seen. You captured everything that's great about this camera and what it's like shooting with it.
Thanks so much for the comment. I really appreciate it!
Extremely well produced video, great review!
Great take ! Got one waiting for on Christmas !
Let's go! Such a crisp cinematic breakdown of a fantastic camera.
Stoked that we got to work on this one together :)
I've been going back and forth on this camera and this video helped me decide that for now I am content with my Ricoh Griii. I'll eventually get a Fuji for the colours but the fact that the ricoh is smaller, has a lot of the features you mentioned PLUS has image stabilization is a huge win
Yeah i heard with the Ricoh size, its awesome. Cant go wrong with either!
@@edwardleefilms I managed to find a Fuji for a decent price! So far so good but I'm not swayed that it's worth the hype and honestly the ricoh is underrated imo
@@Gfp1995 Absolutely. The Ricoh takes even better pictures in some situations (IBIS). I sold my V and for the price you get a (used) Ricoh and a good used Fuji with interchangeable lenses.
Great style and video editing! THX đ
Man i can tell you really love and take pride in your artistic expression. this video is absolutely incredible! Subbed!
Thank you for noticing! My buddy and I really tried harder on this one. Appreciate the comment!
I've been looking for a new camera or lens to get back into photography and I love how you said it's the way a camera makes you feel about your art!
Hi Yuan!! Thanks for watching :) Def would recommend this camera!
Found this vid because of Twitter. Twas beautiful. Loved it. Great job
Thanks for making your way all the way over here from Twitter! Quite the travel.
Thanks for posting this. I have the x100vi on preorder. Since it wasn't coming in time i almost went and bought a Nikon Z6ii but i've decided to hold it out because of this video. You basically summed up all the reasons why I had ordered one in the first place and I'm excited to get it into my hands now
Thank you for a solid, honest video. I just bought one brand new at a decent price and am looking forward to receiving it in the next couple of days. This video was very helpful and encouraging.
Thanks for watching and enjoy the camera!
I was newly able to order a x100v, and i have to say im incredibly excited to use it
Its all about how it makes you feel. I have a substantial lineup of Leica M cameras and lenses, and im considering this just for that "easy to grab and throw in your pocket" aspect. looks much smaller than the Q2 which would be my obvious choice.
Thank u for that awesome video! I have a X100V and also an original X100 and i am obsessed with them! Shoot everything with the V (well everything except studio).
Thank u for making this video because I was gonna make it myself and talk about the same things hahah!
Great review! You said it all!
Really great video about the x100v.
I'm still loving my X100F and have no plan of upgrading anytime soon. đ·
Amazing review. Very well done.
Well said, Ed. Thanks for posting.
The camera doesn't matter. It is the photographer's eye and his/her ability to capture an image that fully encapsulates the photographer's visualisation of the scene that matters.
I have had the X100V since August 2021. Itâs the best camera Iâve had. I still get a buzz from it. Itâs highly portable, as I do a lot of hiking. Also great for family use. The IQ is excellent. Thank you for the video, greetings from Scotland đ
Great video and thank you for making it! What case do you use with the X100V when you travel?
The ND was added when the camera couldnât synk at max speed. A problem that stuck with the line for a long time.
I love my X100V, carry it with me everywhere!
I dont want any other camera but this one, it makes me go out and look for great pictures
I LOVE your work, beautiful!
I've had an X100F, XT3, and XE4. The camera I always go back to is the XE-4. Size of the X100 series, but with lens options. I have both the 18mm and 27mm pancake to scratch my rangefinder itch.
I think the xe4 is the way to go because of the added versatility but still coming in a small, travel friendly package
the xe doesnt just have lens options, but also smaller and lighter (not including bigger lens)
Ty for the review đđœ
I think that has always been the draw of Fujifilm. My A7RIII there is always work to do with the RAW files. But with Fuji the jpegs are so beautiful and it's lovely. I don't think I'd ever get a fixed lens fujifilm, but I will definitely get one.
Love your video set man
The quality of this video is just *chefs kiss* and I thank you for it. I'm deciding between Leica Q2 and this. I will be testing Q2 soon for my TikTok, but for me it's too much money, even used it's around 4000$. In my country (Czech Republic), you need to wait a month for X100V.
For tik tok? Have you tried iphone or xperia 1iv? The Q2 has a unique feel to it but surely you will get over it after a while. The video capability of the Q2 is limited for the price. I did own one and sold it for an a7iv and lenses. X100v is in a place of its own. Paps has one and i enjoy using it alot. If its your only camera i dont think its a good idea. Those (not having to worry about what lense) thing is overrated cause you can just choose to bring one lense with you. Cameras like the a6400+28mm lense is also small and portable. But if you dont like to edit pictures then the x100v and Q2 are your choices for the different price range
@@stephaned3072 I have a tech TikTok channel, so I will be reviewing the Q2, not for video. I have Canon R6 for that and I want my next camera to be my everyday camera.
@@tadypetr oh. Just get the x100 its dope man. But the q2 feels solid and premium. Ion know theres something about it that feels good the little details and thoughts behind it lol. Ill prolly buy one again when i get enough cash
Very Good review, I was lucky to be able to order this camera at a sensible price :) x
bro, this video is fine art. first time here and I've subbed to come back for more. best 15 minutes of my day.
Wow that means a lot man! Thank you for watching. I definitely tried a bit harder on this video but hopefully we can make more videos like this in the coming months
@@edwardleefilms you convinced me to order an x100v next time they're back in stock. A few videos tempted me but this one did it. hope to get it not too far into the future.
Great camera. I have (too) many, but this is my go to for digital lug everywhere. Few people seem to mention the fact that this is one of few that have a hybrid viewfinder. Don't need to remove my glasses every 2 seconds; just keep the eyeball in the EVF-OVF and I miss nothing.
That is super interesting. I didn't know that. Thanks for sharing!
Great video dude! Also can we talk about the talking head set up?!
Thanks Gene! I'm pretty stoked about the talking head set too. Was fun to switch it up a bit! haha
I would love to see you do a Leica Q3 review.
I have had mine for about 2.5 mths, you nailed it that I wanted a camera with awesome jPegs. I wanted a better than iPhone camera I can carry in my pocket. I have been enjoying creating the recipes. Classic Chrome, Pro Neg and Acros have become my favs. That being said, I like the Fuji experience so much I am considering selling it to fund getting a X-H2 and adapt my EF primes to it.
Yeah I am in the same boat. I know fuji makes other amazing cameras and this X100V makes me want to explore their other offers. I mainly shoot Sony and Canon but want to see how I like fuji for video and maybe more professional photo work
@@edwardleefilms I shoot the R6 for paid work, I adapt Sigma 1.4 primes (40&105) as the RF 1.2âs are insanely priced. The 40mm on X-H2 with net 60mm FOV could be a killer combo!!
Nice video Edward, I don't need this camera at all nor do I have the money but it makes me want to buy it ahah
Bro well done. You made me want this camera haha
Super hyped of course
You already know this, but you nailed the aesthetics in this video Ed đ„
Thanks so much!
great work!
great lightning and video. We have a couple of the X100V and in comparison to the new Xt5 ( which we love ) the "made in Japan" build quality seems to give the V a feel which has been increasingly tough to find since 2019 or so.
Wow that is an interesting point. Thanks for sharing!
I was looking to purchase this camera since April of 2021 with no luck as it's always been out of stock. Ended up picking up a Ricoh gr iii x this July and have no regrets. Kind of glad I went this route as this camera easily fits in my cycling jersey pocket.
Could have just waited for x100VI next year.
@@justaemptymall I could have, but I would've missed all the beautiful shots I took this year. I have no problem picking up the x next year as well. A savings on the q2 ghost edition i've been eyeing.
I bought and used the x100v, the q2, and the griii / griiix. Honestly still don't understand why the x100v blew up. The griii is a truly special camera with its sensor size, lens quality, and compact body. The q2 is.. Well. What the x100v wishes it could be. Even if I didn't have the money for the q2, the x100v isn't really a viable substitute like so many people hype it up to be. It's basically a toy Leica wannabe imo. Just my opinion.
The GRlllx is incredible.
random question, where did you get the brown overshirt? anyway great video!
Well said, agreed on all points
Hello! Loved the video! đđ I have a question doe , what camera where you using to shoot this video? I tried to look in the comments and in the description, but I couldnât find any info. Hope you see my comment and keep up the good work!đ đ
I'm currently saving for one I have an xt5 which I love love one four just walk about photography say stopping on the side of the road when I'm driving and seeing something interesting I've seen a few on Facebook Marketplace as well as people sell them to upgrade but I already have the upgraded xt5 so this was always going to be my second fuji camera
I feel like i need to try this camera. Having shot only film for the last 7+ years, i think i need to switch things up a little, and this feels like it could be the answer...
I think you will really like it! There are so many great cameras that Fuji makes but for what it's worth, many of my friends who primarily shoot film really like this camera too.
Great review
Thanks for the great video. I see a significant colour shift towards warmer colours as well as chromatic aberrations esp for landscapes. Does anyone else see this?
The X100V reminds me of two classic film cameras: The Olympus 35SP and the Minolta Hi-Matic 7s. Both are now the digital X100V.
Although it's a high-quality camera, like anything, it's not for everyone.
Former X-T2 and X70 user, I bought an X100F (as said in the video it's almost an X100v) that I thought I would love to use but I am selling it today because I never use it!
I take better photos and videos with my Pana S5 (especially with an old lens) and with my new Ricoh GR IIIx which is really portable (it easily fits in a pocket).
In my case the Fuji is simply stuck between the two and I'm a little sad because the device is absolutely beautiful!
Really cool video. Thank you :)
Also wanna ask Which camera did u use for this video ??.
Great video as always!!! Just a quick question about the links. I thought the Fuji 100v used a 49mm thread in your link to buy the lens hood with the tiffin filter it needs to be 52mm? Not 49mm? I wanted to get the same setup for my Fuji and just wanted to make sure I am buying the right things.
Yes but only if you buy the UV filter adapter that I linked. The one I have is a bit larger and the front of the adapter is 52mm. If you get a filter that screws directly onto the camera, then it would be 49mm.
Feels great to just cut back and keep things super simple! Might have to pick one up eventually to bridge between iPhones and Mirrorless like you said
I just wish the camera was cheaper and not back-ordered. But it really is the perfect camera to take with you when you don't want to take around a larger mirrorless
Unpopular opinion, they should gut the x100 series, restart their x-e series back with the left over scrap and resources.
i'm honest i was searching for something to kill my hype for it
but now i can reason why and how much i want it
Beautiful video and shots. What were you using to film the intro?
Shot this video mostly with the Sony FX3!
I've been looking for a camera for personal use and I think this is the one. I was actually planning on buying the Sony ZV e10, but this video sold me. The thing is, it's out of stock everywhere here in Canada
This one, in my oppinion is to replace point and shoot camera before, which provides user compact camera with high quality sensor, a bunch of color simulations and cheaper than a leica. I will not choose it because it has not interchangeable lens and the attached lens only has f 2-16, but this one is still a great camera anyway.
Hey. Thanks for the review. Can you share your settings? I have a X100T, and while I like it, I've always found I have a (far) worse ratio for getting great photos than I do from my Nikon D300.
Great video
Conversion lenses, sync at 1/2000 (w/o HSS) are huge as well. Super-solid breakdown man. This camera is going on 3 years old and hard to find. I don't see myself selling mine anytime soon. Lots a "pro" shooters I know are looking for an EDC to bring joy to photography for them. Seems like they're landing on the X100V and struggling to find one. Cheers!
This camera coming up on 3 years old, do you think it would be worth it to wait for the successor possibly with the new 40.2MP back-illuminated X-Trans CMOS 5 HR Imaging Sensor? Not gonna lie I just got the X100V from B&H photo 2 weeks ago (haven't even opened the box yet) and am debating on returning it just in case they release a new version in Feb/Mar 2023đ€....what are you thoughts?
@@gabeh7373 no need to return, just resell it and make a couple hundred $$$ from it. Not sure how great the image quality jump will be, but if anything you can get a cheaper x100v for used prices once the new one comes out. Which is what I'm planning to do.
@@gabeh7373 Thatâs a tough one to answer! February is usually a time when we see some solid rumors, if not an announcement of sorts. I were Fuji, Iâd be in a touch spot; divert resources to new models or continue to produce âoldâ ones that FLY off of the shelves. The XT5 is selling fairly well at this point from what I see. In all honesty, I canât fairly answer that question because I have 3 generations of sensors, X Pro 2, X100V and XT5. I donât see why canât use the X100V a while. I would assume the next bodies will be $100+ more with the inclusion of a 40mp sensor AND used market prices may hold close to retail if that happens :). Cheers!
Thanks for your response and insight
I thought about that as well selling it as opposed to just returning it to B&H and getting my money back it's brand new I haven't even opened it đ€
Great Video Ed! Do you use the build in Film simulations or did you change the settings? If so, would you like to share your settings for most of the pictures.
Thank you :-)
I mainly just used the built in classic chrome film simulation :)
Thanks for mentioning the digital zoom of 50mm and 70mm ! Literally no one talks about it. Sure it may come with a little downgrade in quality but still it is nice to be there with a fixed lens, it gives more room for flexibility.
Its the exact same thing as cropping in post.
@@itsjantore but you don't have to do it in post, which is what attracts many people to this camera in the first place
Why eve get stuck with a fixed lens in the first place?

@@stephaned3072 sure, but I personally got x100f because I love 35mm field of view that it offers. 99% of my shots are 35mm. Thanks brotha. Sneaked in a photo of you and me in here :)
Hi Edward, I love watching your videos man. I don't know a lot about cameras, but I want to start with and get a camera. I like your review about the Fuji X100V, but if image stabilization is difficult... I don't know then. I am also looking at the Fujifilm X-S10. Which one (or other Fuji) is easy to use and would you recommend? For me it's important to have a good focus on the camera (to take easy, random pictures without much of a hassle. Looking forward to your answer.
I think the X100V is great but if you're looking for something with stabilization and more video features, I would definitely look at their other cameras!
I mean this is the best review/opinion on the camera. Needs 3 millions views
Sheesh, that means a lot! Thanks!
I think people forget its the film simulations that sell this thing. The Ricoh is meant for a beginner/average photographer who wants decent colors and a quick experience. The display is horrible and no viewfinder is frustrating. Fujis colors stomp Ricohs and those film sims are crisp, plus that 35 is a much nicer focal length. Would never go back too the Ricoh!!!
Love your pictures! Did you use just Classic Chrome on all of them? If not, what other recipes/settings did you use?
Yes! Classic Chrome on all of them minus a few BW ones
this was the best x100v video ive seen yet
That means a lot considering how many there are. Thank you!
Maybe I'm wrong but I just canât justify purchasing a fixed lens camera, however I completely appreciate what your saying about 'how it makes you feel'. I've been in those situations when you only have / can only take one lens and its really freeing. However, I feel like you can create that experience by just bringing or buying a single high quality lens. Still, incredible review and beautiful photos!
I wouldnât treat it like a main camera, but itâs really nice for a dual setup
I still regret selling mine sometimes. Hope we'll see a new X100 in 2023
That's what i've been hearing! That would be rad
Film sims jpeg have been always also possible on Ricoh and Sony, and recently Panasonic,
plus now Leica Q3.
Feel like itâs out of stock cause they are planning to release the next version in feb 2023 fingers crossed đ€
That would be so awesome!
Loved the opening titles of this video and it's a change to have some different style of music other than boring chilled jazz. Well done guys. I love my x100v!
Thanks for watching!
Which cameras are better for video in your opinion? In the budget of x100v with lens of course.
I'm looking for light travel setup
What would you recommend for a similar compact but better at low light ? đą I love this one but I shoot often on the go at night
Hell yeah, epic feel
The V is hyped, especially on youtube. Fujifilm did a great job with that. Even the F is now hard to get. I love my F !
Definitely lots of hype. Maybe too much. But nonetheless, great camera and the whole X100 line is awesome!
