      The market is saturated with those and profit margins are getting slimmer by the day. Pokemon only likely wouldn't be enough to keep a business afloat unless you have a ton of capital and are just doing it for fun.

    Just sent in a card a month ago hoping it comes back a ten as it sold for over 11k at one of those auction sites. Thing I don't like about ebay is all the filling out one has to do just to list a card makes no sense to me unless they make money from shipping costs. What do you think is my best bet for max value on the card?

    Perfect video! I was just thinking about selling a few cards to fund growing my collection! I was just wondering how to go about feedback on a new store. Personally I don’t trust sellers with high quality cards with no feedback and I’d expect people would be wary of me as well since I won’t have any feedback.

    • @pokemon_classics
      @pokemon_classics  Před 2 lety +2

      Best thing to do is to start small with some lower value items and build some feedback and experience. Then slowly scale-up as you are comfortable.

    • @turbo8628
      @turbo8628 Před 2 lety +2

      Bundles are a great way to start. Your costs are lower and you can sell cheaper because of this (making it more attractive to buyers).
      Don't try to sell your valuable cards right away as you will find your reputation holds you back. These will likely go unsold or you will have to sell for below the going rate.
      Building reputation should be priority number one, and this can be boosted by buying off others.
      To avoid being scammed, i list things over the goinh rate with "accepting offers". This means my item will get ignored by a lot if people, but allows me to be selective with who i sell to (i have declined good offers because i didn't trust the buyers).

    • @thawhiteazn
      @thawhiteazn Před 2 lety

      My strategy on my eBay account has been to start off with lower value cards. I can sell these to build up my reputation as a seller and it isn’t a huge loss if someone tries to scam me.
      Edit: lol just realized my comment was basically exactly what Pokemon Classics already said -_-

    After this year, eBay will submit to IRS for any sales over 600 bucks total, which is a huge annoyance. Having an LLC at this point will be a must or a new seller will be slapped with a 30% tax unexpectedly for their sales. It's why most people do not have a store currently and will not if they are just hobbyists. Sadly, I will probably slow down my sales because having an LLC is not worth my time or cost when filing. It's kind of sad really that I'm being slowed down by this when all I want to do is sell to collect more.

    • @pokemon_classics
      @pokemon_classics  Před 2 lety +3

      I addressed taxes towards the end of the video. Technically, you have to pay taxes regardless of how much you sell . . . now the IRS will be monitoring though. Having said that, it's not as bad as it sounds. The 30% is only on profits, meaning you can deduct your cost of goods (purchase price) and business expenses from your sales. I'm not a CPA, but that's my understanding.

    • @joervintagepokemon6976
      @joervintagepokemon6976 Před 2 lety

      @@pokemon_classics that’s all true but for someone like us, it seems unfair to pay 30% on a vintage card when there is no deduction, especially when you want an equal value card. I don’t think a deduction applies unless treated as a business too unless I’m mistaken. It’s a lot of hassle regardless and annoying as heck.

      I'm 5 months in. Sold 5k of my DragonBall cards from 22 years ago and didn't even think about taxes. Overall it's a loss because I spent a good 10k back then but no idea how to explain that. Going to have to find a very patient with noobs CPA😅

    eBay is a great place for buyers, but not always for sellers. Just be careful, and know that risks exist for every business. Remember that deceitful people buy on eBay and have tricked eBay into false claims which sellers lose money or product in the past. Be safe and take caution with any kind of business transactions you do on the internet more so than you would in-person.

    I’ve been selling cards on eBay for the last year or so and it’s been great so far, though I limit my sales to mostly lower value items. I don’t currently have the eBay store subscription and I don’t know if even the cheapest 4.95/month option makes sense if the sale fees are the same as what I’m already paying. Is there a real benefit to using this cheapest subscription with eBay over not using any subscription at all?
