OSMO Action on Amazon: amzn.to/2UtoWE4 (link helps support channel, thanks!)
Here's everything you need to to know about the new DJI OSMO Action Camera, from the detailed specs to how it compares against the GoPro Hero 7 Black. I've got comparison footage between the cameras, but more importantly - I tell you think that others don't: What works well, and what doesn't. I dive into RockSteady, HyperLapse, photos, quick shots mode, the dual-screen display, 4K/60 non-warped view, and plenty more!

@@Dcrainmaker You spoke about needing an adapter, however it not being available... does this mean we will have the same issue with the Gopro? a massive adapter that is $50 a pop and works 50% of the time? Gromzen I talked to the DJI folks in charge of the adapter and they said it should be pretty similar to the OSMO Pocket adapter (which is tiny, but also hard and non flexible). So we’ll have to wait and see...

Thanks, guy; good info. I think competition is great, I've been putting off buying a go pro for several years, hoping they would put a screen on the front side; well lo and behold DJ I did it so I bought it and I'm loving it so far. I'm sure other vendors are going to come out with lenses, just like the DJI screw-on filters. And firmware updates will add to the equation. And one more thing that I didn't particularly care about go pro was the fisheye look, I'm glad that now it's an option with the Osmo action. Again my friend thanks again for the pros and cons of both units, I'm glad I had patients!

Great honest look at the new Osmo Action. I have watched a few reviews with the 'Gopro Killer' tag but looking at the real world videos you took they are very similar in terms of stabalisation. You also mentioned some of the shortcomings too which a lot of reviewers (or are they more 'influencers') have glossed over or just not mentioned.
Competition is good for everyone from a features point of view to pricing so I am happy that DJI entered the market but some less sensationalized reviews would be great.

Really great comparison of the two, glad you shared the settings when you did comparisons. @@vivealexcheng the answer is NO... not at launch. Just regular time-lapse that needs the camera to be kept on a tripod. They have provided beta software to reviewers like DCRainmaker that has hyperlapse just like Hero7 but it won't come out till sometime after launch and appears to be limited to 2.7k/30 not the 4k that GoPro allows but the results appear very similar to GoPro in the beta so the assumption is you won't have to wait long as it appears to be near ready for release.

I'm very excited about the dual screens, but I'm quite disappointed that we'll need to buy an audio adapter. :( Furthermore, I like to vlog with the Rode Wireless Go and my GoPro7, so adapting the receiver is gonna be trick because I'll need to buy new mounts. Should I just stick it out for the GoPro8 and pray that they have a 3.5mm jack and dual screens built in. It's not impossible now that DJI made dual screens and GoPro have had a 3.5mm audio jack before.

There will be a something released either by DJI or aftermarket that we will be able to use with an external mic to mount to.

I like the more natural look of the OSMO, detail & sharpness is Great! The mic is not bad either for a small action camera. Makes me wonder what Hero will bring for the 8? The Hero has a real competitor with the OSMO now.

Hero 8 already baked in design....so too late to "respond" to OSMO. They're probably all pretty bummed over at GoPro right now, realizing they've been one-upped for the next year at least.

@@lynnewhelden if you don't think big companies like GoPro don't have inklings of what their competitors are making long before those competitors announce them, you are wrong. GoPro knows what is in this camera and has for a long time. In fact DJI announcing the Osmo Action NOW as opposed to in later summer / early fall for the holidays is perhaps due to them KNOWING the Hero 8 will best their Osmo Action and them wanting the Osmo Action to instead be compared to the Hero 7 at launch. Look, GoPro has NOT performed well for years, the Hero7 was their first good update in many years, and DJI is a formidable competitor that may well be the death knell for GoPro as a company but I wouldn't write off the future of GoPro automatically just because the Osmo Action came out with a front screen 4 months before we find out about a new Hero camera.

David Corsi ☝️ I agree. I would not be surprised if the executives of both organizations agreed with each other on each other’s release dates. May even be strategizing together on their future similar products so that each product has distinct better qualities in different ways.

I think it all depends whether you prefer the wider fisheye rendering of the GoPro, or the less curvy look of the Osmo. The front display can help you compose more precisely, but many people just point it towards themselves and they'll be in the frame anyway. I prefer the Osmo's lens, but I may be the minority. Defishing the GoPro costs too much resolution for me. I have the Osmo Pocket, and I rarely use the phone app, I generally transfer the card to a computer for editing. Again, I'm probably the minority here.
