That was pretty awesome, but I'll turn you on to another: Fun and Games on Firedances (czcams.com/video/h3jLZHXhPAY/video.html). If you play guitar, you realize the difficulty of what he was doing there. Listen during the verses and closing stretch for that syncopated open low string agaist those deep and spacious harmonics. It's amazing it doesn't just turn to mush given he's using all that reverb, chorus and what are obvously solid state amps.
And how this guitar playing is so able to get across raw primitive sexuality is beyond me. Genious 5h1t!!!!

i have to say, that i just discovered killing joke s gothic middle 80s period..and one of the things that caught my attention was exactly him,the guitar player....he had THE way of playing the guitar, which defined that period of new romantic music ....great

As an old head that was listening to the early KJ albums as they came out (From the debut album in '80 to Firedances in '83) I can say that they weren't Goth.
Note that I stopped at Firedances as I feel that was the last of the original "Genius Joke" before "Night Time" and "Brighter Than a Thousand Suns" which really just sucked! Compared to the prior three albums, they seemed to have taken a softer more accessible tack. I got off the train here.
People may have shoved them into that group, but in reality they sounded like nobody else! Heavy tribal like drums, amazing and different guitar playing, and a subject matter that was darker and more predictive than anything else I've heard. Those first four albums were absolute genious. The lyrics and overall feel generated by those albums was nothing short of inspired! Now I'm not saying I agree with their ideas, but phuck me if they didn't do an amazing job of predicting a future we may very well be on the way too.

@@terrencecox3748 I love every album (even outside the gate), but not a fan of Pylon. It's the only one I don't like, a few decent songs on it though. They had this unique way of making every album sound completely different, sometimes even a completely different genre, yet it still always sounded like Killing Joke.

If you're a guitarist who has influenced musicians from such far flung genres such as Post-Punk, New Wave, Industrial, Metal, Alternative, Grunge, etc., I'd say you've done pretty damn well for yourself.
