- 2 Minutes with Geordie talking about his "magic" Guitar, its possibillities & characteristics....from Killing Joke's documentary about the story of the band....thanks to COFFEE Films, Shawn Pettigrew, and the thousands who have worked on it...
Rest in Peace Geordie, you inspired many!!
One of the most unique rock guitarists of all time. Who could replace him ?
the topic is not to replace.....topic is to enjoy its Unicity and keeping it safe forever....
Dunno but I want to learn guitar
He made me pick it up many moons ago.
@@RagedContinuum Do it man! Best instrument there is, imo :)
Dave Pajo?
RIP Geordie...
R.I.P. Geordie
Cannot compute this loss. Just bewildered and numb.
RIP Geordie
One of the greatest and original guitar player ever! He sends you right into trance.
His sound is instantly recognisable.
Great musician! What a great band they are!
that riff from 0:59 is just stunning 😊
That was pretty awesome, but I'll turn you on to another: Fun and Games on Firedances (czcams.com/video/h3jLZHXhPAY/video.html). If you play guitar, you realize the difficulty of what he was doing there. Listen during the verses and closing stretch for that syncopated open low string agaist those deep and spacious harmonics. It's amazing it doesn't just turn to mush given he's using all that reverb, chorus and what are obvously solid state amps.
And how this guitar playing is so able to get across raw primitive sexuality is beyond me. Genious 5h1t!!!!
i have to say, that i just discovered killing joke s gothic middle 80s period..and one of the things that caught my attention was exactly him,the guitar player....he had THE way of playing the guitar, which defined that period of new romantic music ....great
As an old head that was listening to the early KJ albums as they came out (From the debut album in '80 to Firedances in '83) I can say that they weren't Goth.
Note that I stopped at Firedances as I feel that was the last of the original "Genius Joke" before "Night Time" and "Brighter Than a Thousand Suns" which really just sucked! Compared to the prior three albums, they seemed to have taken a softer more accessible tack. I got off the train here.
People may have shoved them into that group, but in reality they sounded like nobody else! Heavy tribal like drums, amazing and different guitar playing, and a subject matter that was darker and more predictive than anything else I've heard. Those first four albums were absolute genious. The lyrics and overall feel generated by those albums was nothing short of inspired! Now I'm not saying I agree with their ideas, but phuck me if they didn't do an amazing job of predicting a future we may very well be on the way too.
@@terrencecox3748 I love every album (even outside the gate), but not a fan of Pylon. It's the only one I don't like, a few decent songs on it though. They had this unique way of making every album sound completely different, sometimes even a completely different genre, yet it still always sounded like Killing Joke.
"It's not unlike cooking, getting all the f - - kin' flavors sorted"
"................. Resonating"
If you're a guitarist who has influenced musicians from such far flung genres such as Post-Punk, New Wave, Industrial, Metal, Alternative, Grunge, etc., I'd say you've done pretty damn well for yourself.
1:21, the riff for Big Buzz from 2015's 'Pylon.'
at 00:58 sounds like In Cythera, kind of demo.. if this vid was out before MMXII
It's filmed during the recording of Absolute Dissent, so you're probably right about it being In Cythera.
@@COwens interesting thanx! There s some documentaries still unavailable. , plus Geordie is a riff machine, im sure there s enough material to make 2 or 3 albums ahah cheers dear gatherer
Yeah....he does In Cythera....and then Big Buzz. Love it!
ITS A COMPLEX SOUND AND I LUV IT
He also seems to be playing the Feb 2007 Demo No. 1. Dunno if it's still on CZcams, fucking great stuff though. Just Geordie instrumentals, would lap up an album of them!
Genius!
Geordie cooking and Gordon Ramsay on guitar. Probably both can do both well.😉
Epic
Gibson ES295 :)
Was this part on Death and Resurrection show documentary? I dont remember it. If it is....i have to watch it again.
I'm sure I remember this part from the cinema.
Possibly a couple of different versions though as I'm sure there was a DVD release also.
