    Great explanations and I get the difference between 4050 and the autoborne-sealers now, thank you 😊.
    One question that I cannot find the answer to and you didn't go into a great deal of specific details on is, what psi we're you using on the mini gun verses the Airbrush on both?
    I've tried shooting the 4050 through an airbrush. A .35 and a .5 and frankly both don't do very well at getting a glossy shine as a top coat but do okay for an intercoat . Next I will try my lvlp gun with a 1.3 tip for the 4050 as a topcoat.

    • @CreatexColors

      Spray at the spray-gun manufacturer's recommended settings. For the Iwata LPH-80, use the E4 cap with a 1.2mm tip-size sprayed at ~ 18 psi inlet. Airbrush psi settings are more subjective, with artists subjective preferences. What is important for airbrushing is atomization of the paint; reduce paint and set psi so paint flows and atomizes finely without dry-spray. This takes artists time to dial in given their particular set-up and preferences. Thank you.

      4050 UVLS Gloss Clear is the only UVLS Clear recommended for use an an inter-coat clear, pearl carrier or mixing clear for candy2o and other Createx paints. The flattening effect in 4051 and 4052 lessens their performance (i.e. adhesion) as an inter-coat clear compared to 4050. Try a test panel comparing 4050 to AP01, you may wish to skip the AP01 step. A question from the scale modeling world if I may? Which of your products do you recommend for a utility gloss? Meaning, a smooth coat over the base color for the purpose of applying decals and weathering with enamels and oils? This is usually covered with a final matte or satin coat as military aircraft aren’t usually shiny. The matte is easy - finding a gloss that lays down easily and consistently is a chore. I’d be using a .5 needle airbrush.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před rokem

      Our best gloss clear is 405 UVLS High Gloss Clear. Best application, using an airbrush like an Iwata TH2 which has a 0.7mm, fan-pattern tip that lays out a clear much better than a 0.5mm tip, each operated from the same compressor / CFM. A water-based clear like UVLS generally lay down for a more level coating, applied medium wet in a 50/50 overlapped pattern better with a tip-size larger than .5mm. Thanks.

    • @CFster
      @CFster Před rokem

      @@CreatexColors I think most modelers aren’t going to own airbrushes bigger than .5mm. Anything you would suggest for that needle size?

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před rokem +1

      Most airbrush artists don't have a 0.7mm tip-sized airbrush, and most air brushers don't apply clear that well compared to using a mini spray-gun. The TH2 allows for more flow, and spray-gun like layout of the clear, while being able to operate from an airbrush hose and air compressor. The best, show-quality automotive finish for scale modeling is a solvent-based, catalyzed (2k) clear. To get this close with a water-based clear like UVLS, we find a 0.5mm tip-size a bit too restrictive. Thanks.

      Please make a test panel for your proposed graphic technique. After 48+ hours air drying, UVLS Clears can withstand direct contact with water, but are not intended for water submersion, so limit the amount of water used for lubrication while applying the decal. Whether a certain brand of window cleaner can be used is best determined by you through a test panel or two. We wouldn't use a window cleaner, but then we'd make the graphic by applying masking tape and using the stencil to trace & cut the design, then paint. Thank you.

      6000 Transparent Sealer can be used as a satin, top-coat clear for the right application, however it doesn't replace a catalyzed (2k) clear in regards to durability and weathering protection, so definitely its not for use as a top-coat clear. • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před rokem +2

      To paint a candy2o color coat over a metallic base or an inter-coat of 4050 on a helmet or guitar, a spray-gun such as LPH-80 with a 1.2mm E4 cap works best. For small graphic areas and general airbrushing, candy2o can be used with any tip-sized airbrush. If using an airbrush to apply UVLS clear (which is too small to evenly apply a protective coating of 4050 before top-coating with a 2k clear) a 0.5mm tip-size or larger is recommended. Thank you.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před 8 měsíci +1

      4050 is an excellent carrier-medium for metal-flake and could be sprayed through a 1.7mm tip-size with little to no thinning with 4011 Reducer. After it thoroughly dries, top-coat with a catalyzed clear. Thank you.

  • @FoxiAndMolly
    @FoxiAndMolly Před 9 měsíci

    I know you recommend 4050 to wear candy die. I found as you show it is difficult to thin enough through my airbrush for finer candy airbrush artwork over silver. Now I got the idea to use the AutoBorne 6000 to carry the candy die in this situation. Will it work? In general, my airbrush glocks and performs poorly with thicker viscosities as you also show. Very dry overspray at the edges of the spray.

    • @CreatexColors
      @CreatexColors  Před 9 měsíci

      candy2o are concentrated dyes, which when added to 4050 are stable in suspension so colors lay down evenly. However, 4050 is more viscous compared to 4030 Balancing Clear, the original carrier-medium for mixing with candy2o, until 4050 was developed. For light airbrushing, (not fully saturated coats applied as a mid-coat graphic color) mixing 4030 with candy2o does work, although the candy2o dyes will leach (“bleed”) more into top-coated colors compared to mixing with 4050. Thin only with 4011 Reducer. Thank you.

      4040 Bleed Checker is only for use over candy2o to prevent colors from migrating into top-coated colors. 4040 doesn't have the build or leveling as do 6000 or 4050 and doesn't make a good inter-coat clear. 6000 and 4050 do not stop canmdy2o dyes from bleeding. Thank you.

Is that just for actual paint colors and the sealers are still going to be in the auto borne line? Another question, when you are talking about the 4050, does that include the whole UVLS as in the 4051 and 4052. The matte and satin. Just asking because I use all three for different applications?

Add 4030 Balancing Clear 10% per volume to Createx paints to improve adhesion and durability but not increase viscosity. 4030 Balancing Clear is a urethane clear. 6000 can also be added, but if doing so onto a flexible RC car, limit adding 6000 at 105 per volume to paint as it is a much stiffer/ harder acrylic resin.
