FURTHER CLARIFICATION: For radio play, the rate varies from a couple dollars to $100+, for a small amount of plays. It depends on a bunch of different factors, but even if it's a couple dollars, that's still RIDICULOUSLY higher than the rates for streams. I have a videographic memory, so I was visualizing a certain artist's royalty statement when I was speaking, but they got the highest rate because the artist is super big time.

@@tyniacoats Appreciate your channel! Look for portable cassette players or something like a Duel Cassette Deck. I suppose there's this whole novelty idea associate with it. As good as technology is currently, it's always fun (and a good idea) to visit the past cultural trends. Heck, I literally spent the day in an arcade game center with my wife (we are 50/no kids/we are kids!) that has vintage arcade games and pinball machines going back to the 50s/60s. $20 dollars for an all day pass with unlimited plays on every single game. The place was packed! So refreshing to see! Also, you rock! I appreciate you sharing your knowledge with the world. Cheers!

Payable royalties from Radio plays pay more because each play reaches many more listeners, the actual revenue for each play is calculated on how large area a particular station covers and therefor the number of potential listeners. The actual formula for how much a radio play is worth is some mad complicated math. It can be translated to streaming by radio play * potential listeners * compensation factor streams.

13:07 I think us hearing the "leisured" version of you explaining this is important too. It's like a less straineous foundation for us, and THEN if you want you could always come back with a more critical detailed video of the same topic. Fellow overthinker here🙋🏽♂️and my brain sees all the tangents too when speaking lol its tough.. But maybe you can do a video style where u writing it down on a paper visually, use some diagrams, just so once somethings on the paper it's stored there and it frees you to go on the tangent and still come back.

Yessss! When I worked at BMI, 1 of my supervisors pulled me aside after a meeting & said she thinks I would benefit from writing my thoughts down during the meeting because she used to have trouble keeping up with her thoughts & getting her points across fully in meetings & she thought that was happening to me. I started doing that & it really did help me & changed things up in a good way for me professionally!!

Once again, awesome info! Here’s my question(s). What’s the difference between selling a song with exclusive rights vs. exclusive ownership? Scenario: An ad agency contacts a producer and says their client wants to use the producers song for a commercial. The producer agrees and receives a contract that says ( paraphrasing ), “…this contract grants exclusive rights to the song…”
Does this mean the producer no longer owns the song and cannot collect any type of royalties? If you need more info I actually have the contract. Take care!

Its 39$ us on sirius xm Just started gettin my masters revenue still waitin on the pro and pub moneys
That’s amazing! Sirius is considered digital radio though, which pays out differently than regular radio. & digital radio actually does have a royalty for the master, whereas regular radio does not.

Hey Tynia, i have a question regarding beat fee prices for exclusive licenses in my beatstore.
Since you've worked for BMI and seen some of the advances of producers, would you say its not too astronimical to ask for 15k as a standard exclusive beat fee?
My target audience would be established artists and i want to set a credible "i know my value" stance.
It's just important to not miss the mark by setting the prices too high
