    I can think of a minor change that might actually make it a viable option when snipers in a emergency situation: +30% damage while under 60% health, -20% damage while above 60% health. That puts his health around the low 70s when the buff kicks in, giving him just a little more chance to survive

      Would a speed boost make this weapon more interesting? Kind of like the Powerjack?

    • @unclevinnie3605
      @unclevinnie3605 Před 7 lety +1

      Maybe, the only problem is that supposedly, Snipers don't die a whole lot in comparison to other classes. Among that, snipers still stay in the background and normally don't need to cover the same distances as a class like Pyro. But it could be used as a utility if it gives the speed boost, seeing as snipers rarely melee anything other than spies.... it is an interesting weapon to try to make somewhat useful.

    • @trfysmsyobr2200
      @trfysmsyobr2200 Před 7 lety +2

      Oscar McCormack
      The speed boost of the Powerjack is overpowered when considering the Pyro's other options, especially Stock. The downside can easily be negated.
      The Sniper benefits less so from a speed boost, as he rarely moves more than a few metres from the backlines, but the weapon may still need to be balanced accordingly with the other Sniper melee weapons. A concern of mine is that it will make the Stock Kukri useless.

  • @taste5728
    @taste5728 Před 7 lety +61

    The only utility of this weapon is with a razorback and a spy use his the revolver and shoot 2 time (he need 3 shoot to kill you)
    it's can be the only time where this weapon can be better than the Bushwaka
    because you haven't the jarate equipped, and you have less resistance
    and even in that case, the kukri still is a better weapon
    i think when can buff the weapon by just swap the downside with the upside

    I honestly love this weapon, whenever I play sniper I'll always have scouts or spies on me (if my aim isn't awful that day) and it's almost always in close quarters. Even with the decrease in damage at full health, the high crit rate more than makes up for it

    if it dealt 125 on a mini crit on the low health end, it would be an interesting bushwacka sidegrade. It would be a lot better for if you got attacked by an ambassador spy or a sneaky scout who managed to get a meatshot on you and you would rather not risk that damage vulnerability, but still would do less damage overall.

    Not to say it's a great weapon or anything, but you really do brush over the actual advantage it has: When the damage bonus is active, compared to stock melee weapon damage, for most classes it takes only two or three hits to kill from full health, when normally it would take three hits or four hits. You even show it in your comparisons, but you don't make note of it. Using the Shahanshah with Jarate is completely missing the point. The Bushwaker is a very offensive melee, but the Shahanshah is a defensive melee that, when it's active, kills enemies one swing faster than normal melee weapons. (And it still has crits enabled.) If you're using a loadout without Jarate, the Shahanshah is more often than a better backup weapon than a stock melee, even if it's not very flashy.
    Now if you really want a useless Sniper melee, look no further than the Tribalman's Shiv.

    • @RedRobot101
      @RedRobot101  Před 7 lety +7

      The only advantage (assuming we live in a fantasy world where everyone runs around with full health) is that you can two shot medics and 3 shot soldiers (200hp soldiers should be illegal) when you are half health. It's still 2 swings for 125hp, 3 swings for 175 and however many swings for that afk heavy. That being said, the amount of times the damage penalty screwed me during my game play may screwed my opinion. I was probably a little too harsh on it, yeah. Good feedback, thanks.

    • @ianray1744
      @ianray1744 Před 7 lety +5

      As derp said, it's defensive, meaning that, in most cases, youll be further back, and if someone gets close enough to you for you to melee them as sniper, i can guarantee youll have below half health. it's not like youre going to just run around trying to get a kill with it. it's saved me in so many situations (without random crits) because of the 1 less swing. IMHO it's the best DEFENSIVE sniper melee in the game

    • @Derpmind
      @Derpmind Před 7 lety +2

      Not to get too deep into navelgazing with math, but it's basically 130 damage against 162 damage. Against light classes with some overheal, the 162 has a much better change of being enough, and against 175 hp classes, a margin of 13 hp is way more likely to be enough than 45 hp. And 244 damage is better against soldiers and heavies for similar reasons.
      The damage penalty punishes using it offensively, since diving into danger with either low health or a weakened weapon is asking to get killed, but defensively it's saved my bacon plenty of times where stock or the Bushwaker wouldn't have. (You don't always have time to splash them with Jarate first, after all.) Plus, one hit at high health and one hit at low health balance out to about the same damage as two hits from stock, so it's almost like it doesn't even have a downside at all! /s
      None of this saves it from being a pretty boring weapon overall, though. As a Sniper, you either don't want to get into a melee fight at all, or you're using the Bushwaker and you totally do want to get into a melee fight.

      I think Tribalman's Shiv is the best melee for sniper when taken with the SMG.Once you find a spy (it's awesome to spycheck too) just hit him once, switch to smg, if he gets close again hit again.There will be a delay between the spy pulling back and charging again, during that time bleeding will add up, dealing more damage than a normal kukri.It's for hit-run kind of style, not actual fights.It's might also be the reason i am having nightmares of demoknights though

  • @justlegoing6822
    @justlegoing6822 Před 7 lety +1

    I personally love the shahansha in my medival mode loadout for sniper. I use the huntsman, the cozy camper, and the shahansha. I use the huntsman the way anyone else does, but my other two slots are used to take down demoknights. When they get the drop on me (they usually do) I get dropped to pretty low health. The cozy camper keeps me just slightly alive while the damage from the huntsman, paired with the shashana, usually random crits them, or the damage it does without a crit sends them running.

  • @EmmaTheShark
    @EmmaTheShark Před 5 lety +3

    I think this weapon could be made viable if you changed the upside to 50% damage bonus instead of 25%. That way, if you are at such a risky level of health you get a much better reward. 97.5 isn't enough to make it broken by, say, one-shotting a heavy on random crit as it wouldn't break 300. It would still be a good increase and enough to oneshot a soldier even with (some) overheal, who could definitely oneshot you at the level of health you must be at to get the damage bonus.

    Rework on the Shahanshah would be interesting...
    My guessed reworked stats:
    + High health enemies will receive 25% more damage from each swing
    + Equal health enemies will receive 15% more damage from each swing
    - Low health enemies will receive 35% less damage from each swing
    - No random crit
    With this imagined stat, I guess this weapon may be useful to cut down certain enemies with certain health contained, depending on the user's HP.
    I am not sure about the Shahanshah's rework, but I hope Valve makes this weapon interesting to be used with its own special stat...

    the thing is that most snipers will attempt to get a shot in from their rifle before engaging in close combat with a melee weapon, if you can hit that, then the damage buff from the shahansha can finish the opponent off, assuming they are a light class such as scout, whereas the stock will leave them with 10 health.

    The whole point of the shahanshah is to use it after you take 1 melee attack, 1 melee attack = 65 damage, leaving you to 60 hp which puts your in that range for the damage buff, it gives you a back up to your secondary with out relying on minicrits, the point is not the charge in to battle with the melee but to pull it out once you are under that threshold like a rage, for an example situation, you are in the back line and a scout meatshots you, or spy ambys you or even a trolldier misses his MG you pull out your shahansha and swing away, its made to be paired with packs and smgs.

    I guess the immediate solution is:
    + While below *full* health, 25% damage bonus
    - While at full health or overheal, 25% damage penalty
    Otherwise I'm not really sure where to take the item. Crits on a headstrike? I've always wanted a decapitator melee weapon, but it almost certainly provides mechanical and implementive challenges. We don't want another Huntsman where the game makes it too forgiving to score a headstrike.

    I think this is pretty good because when you are sniping you won't be able to look around. so when you take damage it would be a spy or a scout or a soldier and you would be under 50% HP after one shot after theses three classes and that means you have the 25% more damage so you might be able to kill them.

    I think the Shayanaha's damage should depend on the enemy's health. Like +25% damage when the opponent has less then 75% health but 15% slower firing speed. Like this you can body shot a scout or spy (your main counters in this range) and finish them of with a knife swing. Giving it a nice use as an self defence knife

    The best way to use Shahanshah is use it with stock smg, because stock smg is a good weapon at close range, you may switch to shahanshah when you get below half health. And thats how you basicly negate the -25% penalty.

  • @MadSpectro7
    @MadSpectro7 Před 7 lety

    Maybe Valve should give it a "Heal a portion of damage you deal" mechanic to the Shahanshah, and maybe make the damage increase more linear. That would really make the Shahanshah a good weapon.

    I think this is a good video and It does bring up it's weakness I think the damage buff matters because a person shouldn't get all the way back to a sniper without taking damage. The only exception is the spy who you get to low health while fighting. I know the weapon may still not be the best but I had to protect it. Keep up the great content.

  • @dernamenlosefan

    The Shahanshah can be useful. A noscope (50) + a slash with the Shahanshah on low health (81) =131. This is very useful in order to kill spies and other classes with 125 max health.

  • @SkylerMillerTheBronxProject

    Well, my Shahansha is my trusty companion when I decide to enter into a fight I obviously couldn't win in bad situations. Even without Jarate I usually got my kills. For my the trick is to leave the enemy give the first strike (of course only if he/she is aware of your presence or he is not running in your direction in a straight line). This kukri can be very deadly if you can flank your enemy and now how to escape from a battle (a basic Sniper skill since you are a light class). Let's say when you equip this kukri you need to play at melee range like a Übersaw Medic could do. Of course that doesn't end the Shanashah's problems but it is my personal strategy to use it in almost every situations and I hope it can be helpful for you mates.

    I actually quite like the weapon, since with a no-scoped bodyshot, it can kill scouts with one swing if below 50%, which you already often are in a close-quarters fight. Of course you could just use the jarate and bushwacka combo, but i value good body odor, and therefore don’t want to smell of rotten cheese.

    Double the damage bonus. Simple as that. Make the equilizer's damage scaling double what it is currently, and make that +25% damage +50%.

    TBH the down side doesn't matter as you really shouldn't be trying to get upfront with people. It should be used more like the escape plan, only using it when things get bad. Sniper is not designed to be an upfront class, he is designed to sit back and use his SNIPER RIFLE instead of his melee.

  • @zhubwat

  • @isaacargesmith8217
    @isaacargesmith8217 Před 7 lety

    To be fair if a sniper's using his melee he's robably at low health anyways since the enemy's close up so you may actually find that the extra 20 health might help kill an injured enemy who was able to get to you from the front lines.

  • @theworldofnexttuesday2802

    I mostly use the shahanshah whenever I am using the huntsman and an smg. The general gist is that you can get a 120 damage body shot at close range, then, depending on whether you get hit in the process, you either finish with smg spray if you are still at high HP, or give him an 80 damage smack at low hp. That's assuming you didn't get the headshot to start and you didn't get instakiled by a class that actually does CQC. Really only good for a select few maps, like nucleus, where the players tend to be evenly spread all over and the 1v1 game is everything.
    I think the disappointing part about the shahanshah is that it really does not pair well with the bazaar bargain in any way. The stats are completely dissimilar, and they do not really play into each other like other item sets. I know that really wasn't a focus on uber update sets, but it seems like they were just arbitrarily including weapons with lackluster stats because the weapon sets were being taken in as package deals with cosmetics. If I could go back and prevent one event in tf2 from happening, it would be the uber update. It's not that everything was inherently bad about it, but so much of it was handled wrong and released prematurely.

  • @skelskeleton
    @skelskeleton Před 7 lety

    My suggestion, make it start out with a damage penalty (same 25% one but regardless of health) but on headshot kills increase the damage by 10% up to 8 times (55%). Ok maybe not that high but the point is that it sorta acts like a bazaar bargain but on your melee, being worse but can snowball.

  • @WreckNRepeat
    @WreckNRepeat Před 7 lety

    I actually really like this weapon. I use the SMG most of the time, so that's my go to weapon if someone gets up close. But if I get below half health and I need quick burst of damage to get out of trouble, I can rely on the Shahanshah to finish people off. If I've done anything with the SMG, 81 damage should be enough to do the trick. And, of course, even with the damage penalty, it's still enough to kill 125 hp classes with a crit. Since the classes that Snipers have to melee most frequently--Scouts and Spies--are 125 hp classes, the downside isn't really that bad. That said, I wouldn't use this weapon with anything other than the SMG.

    Like honestly 2/5 of my swings are critz even when I swing at the air...
    And also, the shahansha + cleaner's carbine is pretty much the only way a sniper can deal damage to tanks in MvM... Not even crit boosted machina can do that.

    The Shahanshah is much better than the stock in casual matches because it has a hidden stat:
    The Shahanshah gets random crits three times as much as the stock does.
    Anyone else experience this?
    Although to make the Shahanshah more appealing as a weapon for its visible stats, I feel like it should give a Sniper with it out damage resistance, so that the fragile sniper isn't killed in a couple of hits when going into a melee battle. Anyone else agree?
