While looking through fan redesigns for ideas for my own original monster designs, I came across a theory as to why Golem is lizard-like.
The theory is that since both Golem and Machamp are trade evolvers, they swapped features sorta like what happens with Accelgor and Escavalier except those two were programmed properly. Hence why Graveler's 4 arms are now on Machamp while Golem has a reptilian head like Machoke. I would not be surprised if it was some kind of hiccup behind the scenes sorta like the supposed Venomoth and Butterfree swap.
This series is amazing so far! One thing I'm curious about is how you're planning on adding the Gen 8 fossils to the tree.

wasn't sceptile a lizard? It's a really good series I like to follow the evolutions and the crafting of the tree bits by bits! I also have a question: will we get the full tree when it is finished? I would like to maybe draw it or something. BTW I think golem might be a reptile that stays in it shell until it become mature, but the shells are either rocks or rocks that got stuck on its shell/body
Thank you for the comment and support, Regarding Sceptile, I think it's a real toss up between a lizard or raptor, it's earlier stages are more lizard and specifically gecko like. But I think itself it has both and could fit into either, it has a lot of features of raptors like those groves on it's head being from a dilophosaurus, as well as it's massive speed and abundance of dragon attacks suggesting it that way. Also there weren't many raptors in the pokedex so that helped tip in that way because who doesn't love dinos.
As for Golem, that's kind of what I though, if Pokémon evolution is actually metamorphosis then it could also be just a major biological change in the body of it.
For the finished chart, I haven't completed it yet I but am nearly there, I have all of the organic Pokémon and need to add all the magical creatures (ghosts, fairies and that) as well as major legends. I plan on probably putting it on my insta when I'm done and maybe turning it to a poster.

Isn't Torterra a tortoise ?
I honestly think it could be either a tortoise or ankylosaur, it has traits of both, it has the theming of a world turtle but looks more like a dinosaur in my opinion
