The Penn State Nittany Lions football team opened the doors of the Lasch Building weight room Thursday afternoon for its annual squat max testing day. Not only did we get to see the team's physical progress through the winter conditioning period come to fruition, but we also got a chance to speak with strength coach Chuck Losey afterward. Losey spoke with the media for roughly ten minutes and discussed which players progressed this offseason and who stood out from a leadership perspective.

Penn State sees progress from early enrolees
Losey gave a lengthy opening statement to the press conference, thanking his staff but also highlighting players he felt stood out this winter. He also went through many of the early enrollees and how they've adjusted to the program. One player he highlighted was freshman lineman Cooper Counsins, with whom he is very impressed.
"Physically, yeah. I mean, he was ready to go. He was one of the best guys as far as keeping communication with us as far as what the expectation was when they first stepped on campuses mid-year. But his his mental game, and the way he is with his teammates and the guys within his class. I think he's got some serious leadership ability."
Spring football begins in earnest next month
The team breaks winter conditioning this week, and the university goes on spring break next week. That's all that stands in between Penn State fans and spring football. The team opens up camp next month for 15 practices to discover how learning and studying have gone over the first few months of 2024.
It will be an important time for the team, as Penn State replaced all three coordinators this offseason. Offensive Coordinator Andy Kotelnicki joined the program from Kansas, while former Indiana head coach Tom Allen stayed in the Big Ten to join the Lions after nearly a decade with the Hoosiers. Late in the offseason, Justin Lustig joined the team when Stacy Collins left to head back to his native West Coast.
The spring season culminates with the Blue White Game on April 13. Join the Blue White Illustrated CZcams Channel over the next six weeks as we get weekly updates from head coach James Franklin, his players and staff as part of spring football.

No offense to this coach or the program, we hear this every year, Michigan ran us into the ground two years in a row and we still can't run the ball on a consistent basis. It has been a problem since Barkley. Offense and defensive lines need to be 10000% better or will continue to be below average. It would be nice to see us run the ball 16 straight times down a team's throat.

We cant run the ball because people would play their safety near the box as a result of out trash Oc last year as well as bad WR. This narrative UMICH had a good run game against us is dumb and just looking at box scores, if PSU had even a decent offense vs UMICH their run game would have had way less production but instead our defense was on the field the whole game

@billnyedoesminecraftjoseph8379 I have heard the same thing for the past 5 years, the reason why UM, ran the ball down our throat was because they saw how fast our outside defenders were. They realized our defense line is small and ran it down our throat over 20 straight times just about 2 years in a row. Yeah the OC sucked that is not an excuse as to why the oline couldn't block and was tripping over themselves, that has been a problem for the past 5 years. I could go on, just watch the video that tells you all you need to know.
