The reason people use head guards and shin pads and stuff is so u can fight full on and not actually get hurt
Back in the day they used to go full force full contact blood and all today everyone's too scared
@@reeceowens9144 Yes that’s what we do in our dojo I plan when I get to a higher belt to stop using head gear and switch to mouth guard my sensei allow that to higher belts

@@ThePhoenixWay can you tell me why you guys have such a different approach to kumite?
Kyokushin is a Jissen style of fighting meaning Bareknuckle full contact sparring. I believe the majority of the time it should be controlled sparring like this video and the contact be progressive. We still cross train with full striking, face contact with pads, takedowns and ground. This style isn’t for everyone.
@@ThePhoenixWay I am aware as a kyokushin practitioner that we fight full contact bare knuckles. But in my opinion, you guys do it much better, far more technical and controlled. The range, rhythm and footwork is there. I can't say the same for all kyokushin schools when I look at the others. They walk in a straight line towards each other while taking hits while you guys try to time the moment to close the gap and create angles. I like it, I think is is beautiful.

As a Muay Thai fighter i usually make fun of Karate but this is the first time I see people sparring Karate and think they could actually fight

essentially, all combat sports are play-fighting, but the hits are still real. Karate is like kick light, it's just points, you're not fighting, you're just doing aerobics
@@Letthy_oliverr Many moves of Kyokushin are from Muay thai. In the past we learned from them and competed with thai fighters. So i think we can fight.

Having protection makes it easier to hit without having to hold back though.
But yeah no gloves. Unless it's those hard knuckle biker gloves.
My Karate coach is the same, he says it's better to hit and be hit without any of that stuff so we mostly do full contact sparring without equipment.

As a kickboxer that has done karate for the past 10 years. Alot of clubs dont let you spar like this anymore. In regards to tranitioning the karate techniques to another discipline. The basics are there but due to a lack of sparing the fight IQ is lost.
I do love that kyokushin roundhouse, don't think it gets much nicer.

Kyokushin and Kenpo to me are the 2 best "Karate " styles sure they look a little bit different but those bodyshots can legit break ribs or damage organs possibly even rupture

Very nice and controlled sparring.
Kyokushin is like TKD high kicks with MT low kicks. Best of both worlds. Wish it was more popular and there were more dojos but people don’t want to get hit.
As brutal as it is, the way Kyokushin guys test each others metal with clean technique is beautiful
