Sublab XL from @FutureAudioWorkshop is one of the best synth plugins for designing subs and basses. To be honest, I'm usually not very confident in my sub design, but this plugin makes it easy and really fun to make any kind of bass I can imagine.
In this video, you'll learn what this plugin is all about, hear some presets, and learn about its features while we build a sub bass from scratch.

Dope Plugin & Review! XD
Thanks for watching! This was such a fun one to review!
cool thank you
You're welcome, hope you get to demo Sublab XL.
this was excellent, thanks. do you know of anywhere to access the Midi CC info for SubLab? I'm trying to map it to my Launch Control XL
Assign in your daw?
I enjoy using phaseplant and serum for subs then post process them
Nice! I gotta give Phaseplant a deep dive. I keep seeing other producers use it and it seems like such a powerful plugin.
@@ThisIsOnesto I love it hay, super powerful tool. If you do try it you've got to get the ultimate bundle because phaseplant requires "snap ins" for effects the the ultimate bundle comes with everything but more pricey of course, there are other bundles with less snap ins for a cheaper price. I would love a video on phase plant your videos are awesome 🔥👊
Can this thing handle house bass or just sub 808 style stuff?
Great question, it's definitely marketed as a trap/hip-hop instrument. What I found so far is that you can do much more than those genres.
When it comes to house, there's a Reese Bass Preset Folder, so it can handle that no problem. There's a new supersaw oscillator that makes it really fun to design reeses.
When it comes to an FM Bass Pluck it can do that but in a different way since it doesn't have FM. At around 0:45 I play a preset called Thunder Kiss, and it sort of fits that FM Bass Pluck. It creates the sound by making use of the Supersaw oscillator and then adding on the Waveshaper effect.
Hopefully that helps answer your question.
How do you get the glide to work if you let go of the first note then hit the second note? Right now it's only working if I hold the first note
That's a great question. I think the way it works inside Sublab is that you want both notes to overlap just a little. So hit the second note, and just hold out the first note for a brief moment and glide will kick in.
@@ThisIsOnesto I figured it out its the retrigger button
Hi how do i just place an 808 sample of mine into sublab XL on a completely empty setting…with no sine wave etc
Just put it in the sample section instead of putting a kick drum there
@@RussiBeats thanks
Hey! You can start totally from scratch if you click the three little dots in the preset browser, then hit "new preset." Then you can drag your sample into the sample. If you don't want the synth engine, you can mute it in the mixer section by clicking the icon.
great review as usual Onesto!.
I own sublab and I honestly don't see any benefit in upgrading xD
Glad you liked the review! Thanks again for watching.
And I totally get it with the upgrade. They added more features, presets, FX, tools to XL but of course you can get by with regular Sublab. Honestly, as long as you have the synth, sampler, and X-Sub, you're good to go!
I will say that they do have a great deal on the upgrade if you already own Sublab. I think I got the upgrade for just $20, which felt like a very fair deal!
@@ThisIsOnesto Yeah this looks obviously handier because you get all of those things in the same place but if you don't mind a few extra clicks you can get by with the regular sublab. Yes, the price is not too bad.
Sublab has the distinct advantage of actually opening and delivering on my system......whereas XL nada....and no support/concern from FAW.
Julia asked if i bought it from Plugin Boutique and i provided her my serial number....a week later nothing. this nearly a month after my initial purchase.
@@planetclay just an update here - I think we're all up and running now 🙂 sorry about that Clay!
@@juliafaw9191 yes we're up and running now Julia thank you for yours and Ellis' assistance in this matter.
I love this plugin but it kills my cpu :(
Why?
@@Devinop i don’t know, it does take a lot of cpu on my fl studio but it works fine on my Maschine.
It's not a beginner thing.
