Why are you guys in america using so big rods for perch? Here in finland we use the smallest rod possible, reel the fish by hand and drop the bait down as fast as possible, also guaranteed to get in on the same depth where we caught the last one. Faster and easier, big rods like that only for pike, even then rarely. Not trying to sound like an asshole just genuinely curious, good looking perch👍🏼

Thank you for watching and a great question. I spent some time watching fishing for perch in Finland and it is very interesting. We use longer rods for multiple reasons. First, we can comfortably fish standing up or sitting with a longer rod. Also, we use electronics and it is easier to see them when we are not directly over the hole. We also use different reels that allow for fast retrieval rates. Different rods have different sensitivities and are designed for different styles of fishing and different types of fish. But mostly, I would say that my jigging style, hook sets, and fighting the fish are more fun with a longer rod. I have many more perch fishing videos, including perch that weigh 2.3 lbs (1.04326 kg)!

@@spkgear yeah here in finland we usually go for bigger perch 300g-1kg, 1kg perch are usually very careful here. We also use sonars etc. Its slowly getting more common, many old heads are against it. People who are more into ice fishing prefer ”haarukkavapa” which allows for extremely fast fish retrieval, you use the rod for reeling. I see what you mean by comfort when standing but still seems too big and clumsy for all around use, i prefer simpler and smaller! Lots of variation for rod sensitivity in small rods also, i feel like with big rods like this you lose 80% of fish when they are not in the mood for aggressive bites. Thanks for the response!
