- Noontime variety show 'Eat Bulaga!' returns after the departure of its main hosts. But the new set of hosts received mixed reviews from avid viewers.
TV hosts Tito, Vic, and Joey find a new home that will air their variety show.
And confusion swirls as to who truly owns the 'Eat Bulaga!' brand and its segments. Is it TVJ or its production company?

Hearing both sides. Tito has the most consistent narrative about the History of Eat Bulaga. They pioneered the show, they dedicated their whole life to the show. Going to work without salary just to sustain Eat Bulaga just shows their love for the craft and it paid off because it lasted for 44 years. These new comers arrived and shook the boat and eventually sunk it with them. TVJ was able to jump off the sinking ship together with their loyal staff and co hosts. Their spirit of camaraderie will help them reach 50 years and more.

Correction: EAT Bulaga started in 1979 ( not 1981 as said by Bullet Jalosjos) I was able to watch the show at RPN9 LIVE in person :D

Tito Sen said that Eat Bulaga first aired in 1979. Even if you Google it, it states there that they started July 1979. I wish this Mayor would get the facts straight first before he opens his mouth again in an interview. He was firm in saying it was only in 1981. Do the math sir, how can they be celebrating 44 years in TV now?

Wonder why Jalosjos doesn’t include that bit of info. But at the end of day, mga gahaman kayo. EB is not TAPE. EB IS TVJ.

They did. I'll be 64 this year, so I know. I am 4th year college then in PUP. They competed with Student Canteen, which is the top noontime show then. Unfortunately, EB has outshown Student Canteen. What Bullet is saying is wrong, he should do some research (interview).
Im proud of TVJ for fighting for their group. And for making sure na walang pulitika na makakahalo sa show nila unlike others na may kulay talaga.

The amount of gaslighting, discrediting and credit grabbing from this mayor is just disturbing and unbearable. As someone who is in office is just plain disturbing come to think of it. The purpose of Eat Bulaga show is to give entertainment to mga tao in the Philippines and abroad and not to give platform to new and upcoming personalities. TVJ started the Eat Bulaga but they were already TVJ before Eat Bulaga. They were already barkadas as early as 1972.

Ang totoo po, sa stage na ito sa buhay ng TVJ, hindi na po sila dapat pinararanas pa ng mga ganitong sitwasyon.
Nasa level na po sila (where they already paid all the dues), na hindi na dapat silang mag dalawang salita kapag may hinihiling sila sa management.
Bakit kanyo? Eh sila po ang creators at imagineers ng show not only from the very start, but to consistently improve & refresh the show (which is probably even harder po).
Ang management po, with the status of TVJ, ang PRIMARY function nila sa ALWAYS TO MAKE SURE na HAPPY sina TVJ.
Kung laging satisfied po ang tatlong icons na ito, ang pangunahing makikinabang din po dito, ay ang management mismo, dahil next-level revenue-generating machine ang tatlong ito.
Magiging lalo pa silang inspired na mag create ng mga bagong pa-kwela!
Ito po ay sa business POV pa lamang.
Wala pa diyan yung morale-uplifting aspect para sa taongbayan; yung pong solid rapport between the 'front men, cast & crew and the front office, at yung great vibes on social IMPACT.
Ang naging problem po kasi ay IMPACTO yung mga nasa management.
Wala po tayong dapat ikabahala sa pupuntahan ng TVJ, in fact mapapabuti pa po sila.
Ang dapat pong maghanda sa hagupit ng consequences na kagagawan din naman nila, ay yung mga umagrabyado sa TVJ.

After super hardwork at above par creativity & energy of TVJ which made E.B. reach this stage and STILL going strong, iisa lang po ang ibig sabihin nito.

Isnt that this man is a mayor of dapitan, zamboanga and at the same time chief finance officer of a private company? How come no one points it out or no news about issue of "conflict of interest" and "political influence". If Tape just gives permission to TVJ to use Eat Bulaga (and hopefully not charge a huge amount for it), all will be ok. They’d be fools to think that if by holding on to the name, they can replicate what TVJ has done. The three legends can create whatever they want and sponsors will follow them.
That said, I think it is about RESPECT and giving credit where it is due.
Tape may be the producer but TVJ built it.

The best way to resolve this dispute as to who owns "EAT BULAGA!" is for TVJ to use the name in TV5 and let TAPE Inc. sue them in court. If they are so confident that they really own the name, there should be no problem in defending it in the proper venue.

@@kuyab9122 Sa tingin ko, GMA can air the name dahil may contract TAPE with GMA and the shows name is Eat Bulaga, TVJ will fight for the and will have a different name on TV5, as long as the dispute is not Seattled, TVJ can not use the name Eat Bulaga.

correction please TVJ is already TVJ before pa nagkaEatBulaga noong 1979. Year 1978 ang Iskul Bukol which was very popular that time. And prior to that TVJ is also popular in the music scenes with their hit songs. Kung meron kayong delikadesa, you will not use the title “Eat Bulaga” dahil Joey De Leon created the title.😉

A trademark is only for the name, image, logo NOT ownership of the concept which belongs to the creator. The ownership of the creation is the copyright. The copyright ownership is TVJ’s and Tape got the right to use the name and any logo and images which they registered.
A trademark has a renewable period of 3 years only. TVJ can actually file to get that back after a 3 year period - which I think is way beyond that.
The only key point I see is if TVJ ASSIGNED or gave permission to Tape to administer the copyright but TVJ still owns it.

Gusto lang ng producers na e level up ang Eat Bulaga sa Modern type kase after 50 years mag retire na TVJ, sinisimulan na nila na mag transition for the new generation host tapos ayaw ng TVJ kase nga gusto nila old style at di nila gets na magmamana sa Eat Bulaga ay the next generation. First, kudos to Ms Pinky Webb for asking straightforward Qs. What grinds my gears is how these TAPE bosses talk about EB's history and TVJ. Yung "wala nang magagawa" mindset? As if they weren't the very reason why TVJ and others resign. They remain opaque about what transactions and discussions really transpired between TAPE and TVJ. Also maraming inaccurate statements. TVJ trio is already the TVJ trio before EB (wished that Ms Pinky pointed this out, this was never a secret). And EB title creation is by Joey De Leon. Of course, EB title yung niregister with TAPE but TAPE is never responsible for its creation. Copyright trademark laws are tricky but EB title and the show segments are creative creations of their rightful owners. TAPE is never one of those if we are only talking about "creators". Based on his narrative, it's obvious that TAPE wants to reprogram EB with new, inexperienced people. It's never easy that a noontime show that lasted this long has built a nostalgia machine that EB is known to capitalize on. 44 years. Ito yung binalewala na lang ng TAPE in their transactions with TVJ. EB's strengths as a show are stability and nostalgia, which you can only build with experience. Even just by watching this interview, I can already feel the disrespect towards the original EB.
Tape should have just been grateful and thankful for TVJ and respect the show as it was with the dabarkads and should have been kind enough to let go the name EB. It’s not theirs and it will never be, TVJ is EB and EB is TVJ whether they like it or not.
