  • EPIC OF GILGAMESH
The Epic of Gilgamesh tells a story about:
    1) A man that was instructed by the gods to build a boat
    2) that housed every animal on earth
    3) because the gods were going to destroy the earth with a flood
    4) due to the wickedness of man kind
    5) after the floods came, the man sent out a dove, swallow, and raven in search of dry land
    6) eventually the boat settled on a mountain
    7) sacrifice was made
    8 ) blessings were had.
The Epic of Gilgamesh predates the biblical book of Genesis by 700 years and is the oldest written story known to humanity.
There is little doubt that the writers of the Bible lifted the story of the great flood from the Epic of Gilgamesh, which also included stories of a man's search for the secret to eternal life and revealed the reason why we humans must die.
This particular tablet is 4,000 years old and is housed in the Slemani Museum in Sulamaniyah, Iraq.

The black stele at 6:40 ,near the story of gilgamesh, is the stele of Hammurabi. It came from 2000bc and is perhaps the oldest surviving record of law in the world. There are a few copies of it, the most complete is in the Louvre.

Google says the British Museum has some of the tablets as well, and this museum may only have tablet 5? Wonderful that the story has been preserved for so long.

That's actually not true. Almost everything in the Slemani Museum was found in the Kurdistan Region. "Iraqi" Kurdistan actually has the world's highest density of archaeological sites. Over 10,000 new archaeological sites were discovered in the last decade alone. Very few (tens, maybe the low hundreds) of these sites have been excavated so far because of wars and instability in the past century. I am from Slemani and when I visited the museum several years ago, there was barely anyone there. So I got to talk with the managers extensively :).

Hi! I’m Kurdish, and I’m visiting Kurdistan for the first time in June. Since you mentioned you’ve been to museums, could you give some of the addresses/names of the museums. I learned about the Gilgamesh last year during my senior year and I’m eager to visit that museum, and many other since I’ll be there for like 2 months. Thank you!

@@KurdishHeritage Sumerians are the oldest civilisation and they are from South Mesopotamia (Iraq)
Kurdish people immigrated to Iraq from iran, they are not native to Mesopotamia. They have ZERO relationship to Sumerians, Babylonians and Assyrians. Read history and stop making up your own stuff.
Gilgamesh is from South iraq, Sumeria and not from turdkistan.
