    This podcast is amazing. I am so grateful for the work you are both doing to tell parents what they actually need to hear. The advice we fallow from both of you has transformed our home life with our boys One diagnosed with ADHD and one I think also has the signs of it. Straight talk about screens and variety of experiences needed to develop their growth is making all the difference. We homeschooled for 3 years and loved it but realized it was creating all those accommodations to their inflexibility that was not helpful. Even though I don’t love our public school system it creates a structure in their day they need away from home and the variety of experience I just couldn’t provide. We love parent training, it gives my husband and I the confidence each day to deal with the hard moments that come up

      I am so glad to hear that. Thank you so much! I'm appreciative of your awareness that homeschooling has some limitations. I have found that many homeschooling parents are profoundly defensive if it's implied that there may be limitations to what they can do as their child's teacher. I have a local colleague who works with many homeschooling families. They have shared with me how many homeschooled kids they see who are years behind in reading, math, and basic skills because their homeschooling parent has accommodated their inflexibility.

      Is all of this skill building effective with girls that have ADHD also, and not just boys?

    • @ADHDDude

      Yes, none of it is gender-specific.

    Great episode! How effective is parent training if both parents have ADHD themselves?

      Still effective, research data shows may need some additional support. I provide through through twice monthly Office Hours for members.

      I was gonna ask the same thing. We parents all have ADHD too. It feels like the blind leading the blind 😵‍💫

    Who else does Parent Coaching? You two are amazing but you can't provide your expertise to every kid. How do we make this shift?
    No one will prescribe ADHD meds without a neuropsych evaluation/test. Thank you for all your knowledge, expertise, and practical guidance for our kiddos. 😊

    Thank you for your valuable insight and expertise. My wife and I will be adopting a 9 year old boy next month, and this podcast is an incredible resource and has helped in learning about my wife as well!!
    One question I have is in regards to working memory. In your experience, is working memory (verbal & non verbal) able to be improved?

    • @ADHDDude
      @ADHDDude  Před 2 měsíci

      Yes it can. I'm the father of a now young adult who I adopted when he was 8. His executive functioning improved significantly over time, still not perfect but much better. Many children who have been through the foster care system present with ADHD-like profiles, and sometimes profiles that resemble autism, which is why they often get misdiagnosed with autism.

    In your experience do teachers and schools take accommodations seriously when the diagnosis is ADHD?

    • @ADHDDude
      @ADHDDude  Před 5 měsíci +1

      I don't think you can make a blanket statement to generalize all teachers/schools.

    • @averiemaddox6493
      @averiemaddox6493 Před 5 měsíci

      @@ADHDDude I meant generally speaking. Didn’t mean fit it to sound like a blanket statement

    • @ADHDDude
      @ADHDDude  Před 5 měsíci +2

      They do not necessarly know the diagnosis. In schools an IEP doesn't include a diagnosis it includes an educational classification.
