@@DancingQueen311 I am studying the Hindi language and I didn’t know that they did calligraphy like that. Amazing. That red ink is lovely, isn’t it!
For traditional Japanese and Chinese calligraphy, soot from burning charcoal (and other things) is collected and made it to ink blocks. The very hard ink blocks are rubbed on a stone surface with a tiny amount of water and 墨/Sumi ink is made. I wonder what the traditional ink is for Hindi writing, that would be interesting to find out.
The character for “Sumi” 墨 is a combination of “black” 黒 & “dirt/soil/land 土.
