- It's that time - I'm going home.
Last time I went back to Ontario, Canada I was SO SICK for the entire trip that I couldn't leave my bed! I hoping this trip will be a little bit different... As an expat living in the UK for the last 7 years, I always try to visit home every summer - but sometimes I'm not that lucky.

Hey! I'm Alanna - a thirty-something documenting my life as a Canadian living in England.
I share the ups and downs of an expat living abroad and what it's really like living in the UK. It's not always easy, but there's been so many wonderful experiences, too. I post a CZcams video every Tuesday plus an additional video every Saturday on my Patreon account. I also livestream every Wednesday and Sunday at 5:30pm GMT/BST on Twitch.
Alanna x
Complaining because it's hot. Oh, how very British!
Or very Canadian.
Methinks the complaint is how hot it is in her flat. When visiting the family home, it will be hot / humid but inside lovely due to having air conditioning throughout the house. 😀
Lol😁
Too Hot , cold, wet, dry, yep very English.
No actually last June /July was in the record books..
“Meteorologically, June started with high pressure over the UK bringing often settled and dry conditions with plenty of sunshine.
“Once that high pressure subsided, warm, humid air took charge over the UK, with 32.2C the highest temperature recorded so far this month and high temperatures for the vast majority of the UK.
“What has been particularly unusual is the persistent warmth for much of the month, with temperatures reaching 25C widely for at least a fortnight, and at times 28C to 30C - whereas we would more typically expect maximum temperatures in the high teens or low 20s at this time of year.”
"I'm going home" had me worried, thought we may be losing you. 😢 Glad it's only a break 👍
I'll be back soon!
Aye, ye had *me* concerned about that too. "Haste ye back", Alanna!
So pleased your are coming back ! We’d miss you 🥰
After visiting 'home' for a short while, she'll be coming 'home'.
That's how clickbait works.
Ontario - the land of central air con, window screens, finished basements, mammoth washers and dryers and "hugely" refrigerators (and in many csses, more than 1).
Your parents where right to buy that house for the view, wow! Imagine seeing that everyday so lucky, have fun back home! Love Canada content 🎉🎉🎉
Yes! Thank you!
Alanna, If you are looking for content ideas, I'd be interested in you using your Canadian trip to look at, say,
- Canadian schools and familiar teenage haunts and workplaces
- food and beer culture (of course)
- a typical evening out or shopping trip in your home area
- what people like to do for hobbies that are different from the UK
- a typical country dance or summer parade if one's available (I remember these from my own two years living in Edmonton and trips to rural AB and SK
- and a survey of typical Canadian winter kit that's currently all in storage!
@AdventuresAndNaps If I were you, I wouldn’t want to come back to the UK! Your parents' place looks so beautiful and Toronto itself seems much nicer than the UK 😊
Love it saying " Toronto" dropping the last T. That's how you know your talking to a fellow Torontonian.
I found flying westbound was much easier for jetlag than flying eastbound . The overnight flight from Calgary to Gatwick was a killer.
I'm the opposite! I love the overnight fight back to Gatwick than the during-the-day flight to Toronto!
@@AdventuresAndNaps it was like a mid afternoon flight, so when I got to Gatwick it felt like 3 in the morning but it was actually about 10am. I can't sleep on flights at all.
Yeah visiting Canada it was like that. But since moving to Canada, I much prefer the eastbound flight. Weird how it works haha
It's 44c where I am in Spain today so I'd do anything to be in that swimming pool in the rain!!
Hi Alanna enjoy your holiday at least you'll have air conditioning
So true!
Yep, Hayfever in the UK can really get you at times. Very fast growing period.
Hi, Alanna, a fun video. If the journey between UK and Canada was as quick in real life as in this video you could pop over every week. Glad the holiday has gone well.
Thanks so much! ☺️
Good Grief; jump in the pool, Alanna!! Welcome home,eh-get some poutine. Cheers from the Pacific West Coast of Canada.
It always amuses me how you drop the second T in Toronto but no more weird than a lot of us dropping the H at the beginning of words, at least we can blame our Norman ancestors for that.
You are just so cute, and I love that you keep saying ‘any hoo’, enjoy your time back home 👍👍🌹🌹🏴😊
It's great to see you so happy in Canada, after last year's trip. I wonder if there's enough for a video about how Canada has changed while you've been away. We tend to think our home town will be the same as it was when we left but, in reality, they keep sneakily changing things while our backs our turned! Stay well Alanna.
Great suggestion, thank you!
Toronto is basically New York. When I visited Niagara Falls we drove from Buffalo to Toronto and I remember thinking I still feel like I’m in NY. Same waterfall, same scenery. However, when I visited Montreal it really did feel like a different country.
I love the Atlantic Crossing..... Especially "Ice Burg" Watching.... and because all the Planes use the same airspace you can do some "Plane Spotting".... Love Canada, Love Ontario..... And Love Alanna..... I hope all your Memories of home are Happy ones...... Bless Ya Darlin.... :-)) xxx
...and I only had to look at that airport code for less than a second and now I have a certain Rush instrumental stuck in my head.
Would be great to see a vlog of your town and scenery etc shops etc. Have a great time .. ps if you eat honey produced locally to your area it should cure hayfever.. 😊❤
I think hay fever is triggered by all the air pollution in Britain as it messes with your immune system and then when the pollen count raises it’s like an overload for the immune system. I think Canada being so big with less people there is probably a lot less air pollution especially if you don’t live in a high density area.
My brother developed hay fever in his late 30s after driving diesel forklift trucks for a few months and yet after a few years of not being around diesel fumes his hay fever disappeared.
Would love to see more of Canada and Canadian culture
I’m fascinated how Canadians seem to be like half American and half British it’s like you have the best of both worlds with the most amazing and massive country to live in. As a Brit I’m well jell that you all have such a beautiful and wild country to live in with very few people to compete with over space.
I'm in Scotland and had hay fever for the first time in 50 years.
I've had a few Brits say something similar - it's definitely worse in the UK this summer than I remember it being!
Makes me so happy that you are back home in Ontario, with your family,& able to see your old friends again.have a wonderful time,& stay healthy.
Thank you so much!
That’s some backyard ! 😊
Have a great time Canada oh Canada 😊❤
Thank you! 😃
Bloody hell I thought you were going home permanently Phew !!! Xxx
Do a video of a visit to the shops starting from leaving home...and show what's entailed/difference .
You have 8 hours playing video games, listening to podcasts and eating airline food but your mum has 4 hours of driving ahead of her, that's got to be worth a Timmy's reward. You mum has a lovely garden with a great view
I dont know...8hr flight AND a George Clooney movie to boot....she must have felt like they'd never touch down in Toronto
I like you are sat out the back, and you waffled about the weather... 🤣, Oh and ANYWHO you say that a lot.
It's been a pretty decent summer so far in southern Ontario.
Am so happy for you Alannah, all came good for you to travel back and see your family and return.
Unsure if you have mentioned the differences in heat, as a Brit have often wished for air con at the office to be in my flat.
When it gets really hot at home with no breeze and the humidity needle creeps up to 50% …. then 60% am done! 🥵🫠
Enjoy the holiday
All the best!
☺️
Folks in Canada like to paint their houses bright colours!😮
Have a wonderful time
Thank you!
So pleased to hear your visa worries are all sorted. Have a great holiday. I'll look out for your video tomorrow.
😄

Thank you so much for being you and taking away my anxiety. You bring a smile to my face, my blood pressure goes down and my pulse rate goes up to normal - It's a thing.
Have a lovely time.Looking forward to your review of your time there
Gorgeous views. Looking forward to seeing more of Canada.
I am very happy for you. I hope the weather is good and you enjoy the air con when it is too hot.
I will be going back "home" soon. It has been over 11 years. I am sure it will look so different.
Have a great holiday
Hope you have a great time visiting family and friends back in Canada 🇨🇦, I’m also off to Toronto early September.
Have a great time and stay safe
Hi from a couple of Brits 🏴, who started in Vancouver a week ago, drove across the Rockies and now in Calgary for the Stampede 😊 and what's with 'any hoo' it's 'any how', get it right.....😂
Welcome Back Have a nice visit
Have fun!! Alanna. 😊
Thanks so much!
@@AdventuresAndNaps You're Welcome.
Just chill out and have fun, I used to do the same when I came home on leave when I was in the RAF! Just have a blast seeing friends and family!
You’ll love it don’t worry. Everyday brings a new experience😊
I’m Irish and have been living in Brussels for half a year and the last few months have just been this never-ending heatwave to the point I feel sick just about every day. I keep phoning my mum to complain and she just yells “WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO DO ABOUT IT” and then I just start crying 😂😂😂 I feel like you can relate to my pain and I love you complaining about the heat, I just feel like someone gets me 😂. Also I always just assumed Canadians wouldn’t be affected by the heat over in uk/irl, I just love learning all these things that dispel preconceived notions about Canada.
😅 (laughing at your mum saying that...!)
Nice family pool. Stay in the pool for the week! :)
Thank you, I will!
Have a lovely time
This is a good summer for us Brits, but I guess after all the time you have been here you are still not used to our infrequent Hot Summers. Enjoy your time back in Canada and hopefully you will return fully refreshed. Tony in Essex.
What country are you living in!
It's been hot every year in England for decades.104 in London last year.
@@bwilson5401 I live in Essex and yes we have had a few warm days (75 to 80F) locally this year, but nothing like the temperatures they do get in London and certainly nothing like Florida at Christmas time (85 to 95F)
Canada looks absolutely beautiful!
that's such a nice garden to just relax and read a book in
Totally agree
Oh it seems so long since I last seen that glorious back yard I'm always jealous of😉, no wonder they brought that house as soon as they seen it! I hope you aren't sick and are havinga great time (are you still there?). Yep it was hot ...not anymore. It was 14 C in Cardiff last Tuesday🥶. Hope your fam and the dog are good🍁! Looking forward to the culture shocks. Thanks Alanna 🥳
Enjoy your trip, Allanna
as a resident brit, anytime i leave the UK my allergies are COMPLETELY gone, i sleep like a baby and it feels amazing. ive read that the UK has a massive rapeseed oil industry which is what causes a lot of it for us here.
If it makes you feel any better, it's been about the same here with the frequent rain lately.
Hope you're having a wonderful time.
Enjoy it. My brother been I Canada for about 40ys. Flights are well
Thanks for all your videos, have a safe journey and take care!
Thank you!!
Great Video, Glad you're not sick. Your breakfast at the airport looked great. I think I was as worried as you when you seemed to be checking that pizza pockety type thing to see if it's alive. Looking forward to your next Vids. I've always wanted to go to canada above anywhere else. Have fun with the family.
I enjoyed watching that. You enjoy your break back home now. Looks pretty there, perhaps you could take us for a peek around the local area.
Have a good journey and stay well.
Thanks, you too!
Great to see that you finally made it back home. Have a wonderful time.
Thanks so much!
Wow. What a garden. And you left that for England. Love. Does strange things to people. Have a good time, 👍😊
Nice to see you prepared well for the flight with a full english…👍👍👍
Hope u r enjoying yourself in Canada
Enjoy your holiday 👍😎back home.
Hi Alanna it's me, Nigel. I've enjoyed those videos I have watched and now that you are 'going home' (that has a nice ring to it) I'll try and watch the rest. Thank you for what I have viewed and for what is to come. You are obviously nice young woman, so sorry your visit to the UK didn't work out but I'm certain you will be OK. Good luck and God Bless!
A lovely video as always
Nice house ( I assume from that view, pool and garden ) do you think your parents would be interested in adopting a 59 year old orphan ?
I'm house trained and have a humble little place by the beach in Bournemouth they can use as a holiday home.😊
I think it is good for you come Back to your country.
Have a good time 👍
I really miss the beauty of Canadian thunderstorms
But...but...but...you're an honorary Brit now! Surely 'home' is Kent? 😃😃😮😮
Hi honey, so hope u have a lovely time in Canada and do hope your coming back to the UK x 💕
I've had the worst hayfever here in the UK this year than I've had for years. I'm sneezing like an angry dog barks. Loud and relentlessly.
Yayyyyyy🎉🇬🇧 ✈️ 🇨🇦🥂...have a great time x
☺️ thank you!
Your one of us now! you get back home and the first thing you talk about is the weather .. It's raining !!!! LOL
enjoy your holiday!
Thank you ☺️
Looks wonderful 😁😁

Hi Alanna. Have a great time, stay well, see your family and friends...and come back, please.
Enjoy your time back in Canada 👍
Hope you're having a good trip! As someone who's moving from Kingston ON, to the UK early next year, your videos have been really informative and motivating!
Ahh thank you so much! Hope you have a great move ☺️
Thanks Alanna, hope you have a wonderful Adventure/holiday, & manage to do all the things you want & planned to do (except a script of course)!
