One of the reasons prospective poultry farmers are afraid to start up is the fear of mortality, and this death majorly happens during the first week of the chick's life. This stage is the first week of the brooding stage, which is normally tedious due to the activities involved.
This brooding stage involves taking care of the chicks from the time you bring them out from the baby chick cartoon to the time they are able to feed on their own and regulate their own body temperature. During this period you have to provide warmth by a heat source, feed and give them clean water, keep them away from predators, etc, This is what the mother hen does, but since there is no one here, you become the mother hen and their total survival depends on you.
