Welcome back! It’s funny how these little pieces of cardboard can do that. Right now it’s a little hard to find packs so I think anywhere might be a good start. Are there any favorite Pokémon you’re maybe chasing? Are you planning on battling or just collecting?
My biggest tip is to not feed scalpers. Do research and have patience. Do not buy from scalpers for above MSRP unless you're buying products that are out of print and won't be in stores anymore. No reason to spend $100+ on things that are 40-50 at retail.

Lol probably the hardest thing to decide or stick to. Coins might be cool maybe for midnight with pokemon 👀

I recently decided to get back into card collecting after years of not doing so, ive fallen in love with the trainer gallery set from the Lost Origin!
I’m looking to get into this with my son how like collecting them. It brings back so many childhood memories. I never collected the cards but watched the show a lot.

See, this is one of the major reasons I enjoy this channel.. Your possativety is amazing, makes me want to keep on collecting. Your set up is always Soo eye catching. I have been a Pokemon fan since the 90s back in elementary school. As I got into my teens and adults years that kid inside of me got even more passionate about the hobby.

These are honestly good tips , thank you. The biggest one I took from this is the goal tip. I start to get carried away and look at all these diff sets and diff cards and it distracts me from my original goal. I need to focus on the 1 goal without spending money on other things . Once I finish that 1st goal THEN I can move in to other cards/sets I want

@ Yuhp! I want to finish my celebrations set . I’ve got about 10 cards left from the classic set (charizard is my big chase card) and then I’ll be done. Once I finish celebrations I’m going back and completing the full gen 1 wotc sets
Nice, Celebrations is a way fun set. Good luck with the Charizard! And great goal to get the wotc cards. Most of them are surprisingly affordable especially if you’re not going for those like perfect 10 type of cards

I just started to get into the game again. I wanted to do a mix of collecting and giving the competitive scene a go. Managed to get a couple good pulls so far and now I'm trying to see what's around my area although it is a small town in the meantime. I'm a sucker for Urshifu so I wanted to make rapid and single strike decks as well
That’s awesome, the new styles have really shaken things up it seems like. I think they have a store locator on the Pokémon site so you can find when events are happening. Hopefully some are hosted in your area! Might even be able to find a Facebook group or something too

When I'm older I probably would get a trading binder, so I get 2 each week one for my collection or battle and 1 for my trading binder.

I’ve just got started again with my Pokémon collection because I grew up with Pokémon. My spreadsheet has been a life saver

If just collecting one Pokemon is a reasonable goal, I'd honestly love to get all the Eevee and their evulotions I can possibly get.
That is a great goal! Been seeing some people’s eeveelution only collections of just the cards from Evolving Skies and it looks so good! You should definitely pursue this

I've never really been into pokemon cards I've always been more into the games but I've recently seen loads of dope looking lycanroc cards so now I want to collect every single lycanroc card that exists from full arts to regular rares I want them all (if you couldn't tell I love lycanroc I make it my mission to get a shiny of every form in each new game if he's in it)

I wanna try Pokemon bc I grow up on Nintendo so I played all those classics but I never had chance to start anything with Pokemon and I think trying to collect cards could get me closer to the fandom. Also I still don’t know what Pokemon are rare thats one of my biggest problems.
Pokémon is very fun 😄 I think just watching videos can help you get better acquainted with the cards and what to chase after. But also using a site like tcgplayer.com to gauge the prices of cards could help too. Just depends on your goals

what's the standard accepted card brand for official tournaments?
where can i buy holograph versions of high level and basic cards, i would like most of the cards in my deck to be holographic if possible
The currently printed cards are the official cards for tournaments. The original runs of the wizards of the coast cards are official cards, but are not accepted in the current tournaments.
I use tcgplayer.com a lot to buy specific cards though as long as you know the card name or set you’re looking for

I want to start collecting. But how do you know which cards are good and bad? How do you know if a card is rare?
Pokémon usually has a rarity symbol on the bottom corner of the card, but the actual pull rates and population of a card affect a lot. I’m a big fan of collecting the cards and Pokémon you like, but a site like tcgplayer.com has listings for a TON of cards and their various market values
If you look in the corner of the cards there will either be a circle, diamond or star. A circle is common, a diamond is uncommon and a star means it's rare. But there's a lot more things that could affect the rarity
Hello, I'd like to get some help here. I'm 19, moving out, I'm trying to collect videogames and consoles. I was going through my childhood stuff and found some old pokemon cards (fat pikachu, hp is written in red) and thought "man it would be cool to have all of the original pokemon cards". I did some googling and I'm confused. There are 150 original pokemon right? (+Mewtwo who is a clone from mew?) If I understood correctly, there isn't simply "generation 1 card set". It's more like there are multiple card sets which together for the whole gen 1 roster, I think? Which sets should I worry about? I'd like to have a collection which would make at least some kind of sense (I mean, if I want to say: "I every original Pokemon training card game card", which cards should it include?) As you can tell, I'm not interested creating any kind of valuable collection or especially rare collection. I just think it would be neat to have "every original card". Are there multiple versions of each card? How about original (gen 1?) "training cards" or "energy cards"? Should I be interested in them too? I live in Europe. In video games, that sometimes causes confusion when collecting stuff. For example, we don't have a sega genesis, we have a mega drive. Does something like that exists in pokemon card scene? Do all of the cards here look the same as American ones, for example? Thanks
Hello! Lots to unpack here for sure. The original sets were the base set (there are a few version of that as well, like first edition and unlimited edition) but that set didn’t have all 151 Pokémon in it. They then brought in sets like Jungle and Fossil which expanded the available Pokémon. Every set has lots of Pokémon in it and a Pokémon can appear in many different sets over time.
Each set also features art from various artists which does stay consistent across each language the cards are printed in (for the most part, some exceptions).

Yeah that could be a really cool collection! If you want just Squirtle, you might be better off just buying the individual cards instead of packs of cards for that. Sites like tcgplayer.com are really good for that.
But also, opening packs is fun so definitely if you want to open packs go for it. There are some services that will buy your unwanted cards in bulk or you can always try to sell them yourself

I’d say purchasing individual cards right now is a great way to complete sets. Prices are just really good right now. I use tcgplayer.com for that.
Competitively, Astral Radiance and Brilliant Stars have some playable cards if you wanted to open packs while trying to get those cards that are strong in the meta.
I just got into collecting Pokémon cards and I did have one question how can I be more safe I guess you could say about buying fake cards cause I would hate to buy something or pull something and be all excited about it then find out later that it’s fake or just get ripped off

im just getting in to collecting pokemon cards i brought a pac i while back and loved opening it but im in the uk and sometimes am not to sure what to get or where to go as some shops do sets for anywhere from £10-£30 whichc can be hard fr me to afford as im a young carer for my mum which is in support of her main carer who is my dad (this is his job) there for dont get much money

Which packs to buy… I say choose whatever might be exciting for you. Could be the newest set or maybe an old one. Maybe you just want to collect a certain Pokémon. I use tcgplayer.com and Serebii.net to help me see what cards are in each card set.

I just started to actually collect Pokemon cards recently and i am aiming to get the whole Astral Radiance extension. I bought the Darkrai Elite Trainer Box and the Build and Battle box last week but now i don't know what to buy next. Maybe just some individual boosters or smt. Can someone give me some advice plz ??
If completing the set is the goal, you could buy just the single cards from a site like tcgplayer.com but if you wanna get them yourself from packs, I’d say go after the booster boxes, ETBs, and 3 pack blisters. If you can get the build and battle kits/stadiums for under MSRP those would be good too just a lot of extra stuff you might not want
I really want to complete Crown Zenith by the end of the year. I’m thinking 40$ a month since I won’t be buying cards every month.

I bought a pack at dollarama or dollar store! I heard they don't have a good value compared to the ones in Walmart
The dollar packs are a good way to get cards but there is either a certain element of luck or preparation for them. They can be weighed, heavy packs mean something holographic.
But even if you don’t weigh them, if you get a good hit you only spent $1 😄

Yep! They are basically a reprinting of the original base set cards plus some new extra ones in there

I live in Malaysia and there aren't many options and when I do find a gaming store the cards either they don't have any pkmn cards or too expensive for my pocket money. :(

Man I remember being a kid and collecting the cards 😄 I want to get back into it but I have to restart as I live in a new place and didn’t take the 2 big binders ( lots of doubles of same cards 😅) with me ..... I now live on a tiny island 🏝 with one toy store . I’ll just start slow and stay on a budget like recommend and hopefully I get lucky !

You could try just looking at the single card prices and chipping away at them over time to get that complete set. Right now could be a good time though cuz the market is a little cooled off for the time being. I use TCGplayer.com to gauge prices but I know a lot of people also use eBay

Thanks for the tips. It is overwhelming to get started. And not sure how the market in my region is. My initial 'research' suggests things are priced very differently here (double the costs) so I may have to think this one through well enough before putting any real money into it. :)
Not sure what region you’re in but there are a lot of online stores you could try using that hopefully ship there if you are looking for sealed products to open. But, yes unfortunately the market is a little aggressive right now due to a temporary lack of supply. Heard that around Fall we should be seeing some more supply
@ I live in India. From my cursory 'research' there are a lot of fakes going around here even in stores that we here consider standard. International online stores like the ones you had suggested may be the only reliable options for the time being. Dose the uk pokemon cards have the same value as other countries???
Seems like the languages are what influence it more so than region. So the English cards would all have similar valuations but could be different than their Japanese or German language versions for example

I would say so. Most sets that Diglett is in it is a common card. So just make sure it is in the packs you are buying 😄 tcgplayer.com or even the card dex on serebii.net are good resources

What do I sleeve what do I case
If it’s holographic at all, I sleeve it. Then I make sure I have one of everything in a binder unless it’s an expensive card, like $30 or higher. All my extras go in boxes

Anything vintage and holographic would be good. You could try looking at any of your rare or expensive cards, I use tcgplayer.com to find prices. Anything expensive could be good. Charizards are always a good move. Blastoise and Venusaur too, Pikachu, Eevee, any of the female trainer cards.

Nice, Hidden Fates is a sweet set too! Definitely a coveted one. The Charizard is obviously a big one to go for but also the eeveelutions are super nice and valuable. Darkrai as well.
Hidden Fates and Shining Fates are good sets to get into. Darkness Ablaze and Vivid Voltage are also some really fun sets with some bangers in them.
If you’re chasing specific Pokémon I would say check out www.serebii.net/card/ to see where that Pokémon appears in each set but if you are chasing valuable cards, www.tcgplayer.com/ is a good place to browse current market values of sets and specific cards

I might be abit late but I'm starting to collect again. I collected as a kid until about 2004 when I stopped, I plan on just collecting from base set to Aquapolis since they are the ones I used to collect growing up. I had thousands of cards but ended up selling them in 2005 to neighbours little kids and at a carboot sale. I remember having a huge album full of holos and I put tags on each slot with a price and having abit of paper stuck on the inside of the folder saying something like "thieves will be prosecuted" lmao.

Mentioned some things in your other comment, but occasionally GameStop runs sales but a lot of smaller online shops have some really good deals on packs, tins and booster boxes

As someone who just started to collecting, I am very overwhelm and non educated about these thigs. what advice can you give? For example, I just bought a box set of Chilling Reign. Does that mean I should start buying only chilling reign boosters cards from that set, so I can try to get all of the cards from that specific set and put it all in a binder? Do people do that? Is that common? I dont play the game, Im not interested in the pokemon economy, but I like collecting these cards non the less.
Yeah I’m much more of a collector as well. And I’m of the philosophy that if you like a card, collect it. If you like a set, collect it. So depends on how much you like something or how much it’ll bug you later that something isn’t 100% lol. Personally I only go hard on certain sets.

Pace yourself, set budgets. It’s easy to get caught up in all the excitement and buy stuff, while cool, might not be what you want long term. But that’s the fun too, you buy and trade over time

Serebii has been around a long time and a great source for many things pokemon.
Also www.tcgplayer.com/ is a great source to buy single cards and see what is available. For the most part they usually have every card listed when you search

It all started when I decided to buy a 3ds in early 2019 so I can pick back up on Pokemon from the DS and 3DS era before Sword and Shield came out. And now, December 17, 2021...on the same night "Spiderman No Way Home" released, I bought two packs. Here's to collecting. Cheers!

@ so far, what I'm seeing that is worth something are the dynamax, gigantamax, vmax card. I have a vmax togekiss, aegislash and charizard. It feels like making my own personal Pokedex. I'm in it for the art too.
Yeah those various Max cards are usually good, especially if they have a good presence competitively. The full art V cards tend to do well and the full art trainers cards (some of my fav art) also do well.
Whenever you get your collection in a spot where you like it, I would love to see it 😄
is it ok to get cards off amazon?
I think so. I’ve never done it successfully but I did a video recently on where to buy Pokémon cards, ppl in the comments are saying Amazon is good as long as it is sold by Amazon. If it’s sold by a 3rd party reseller it can be hit or miss

I’ve heard some stories of this happening. Thankfully Amazon has a good return policy if this is the case. Only problem is that you could end up with no cards

Honestly, the Pokémon Battle Academy might be a good place to start. Pretty cheap and you get 3 decks to play with the rules and everything.
To make unboxing videos, I say anything you can find right now. Supply is still low unfortunately but if you have fun and make it entertaining, people will come watch. Doesn’t matter the set.
I’m a fan of Darkness Ablaze, Vivid Voltage and Shining Fates though of the most recent sets if you can find them!

I mean, always be aware of the quality of the box/packaging that you’re looking at. So far I have always gotten legit cards though from Walmart. Online listings are difficult too if you’re shopping on their marketplace. Just make sure you buy from listings that are shipped and sold by Walmart

My son has this blue eyed something it's worth like 1,800 on the site but he wants sell it for 300 to anyone is that dumb or no o he's 30 now I got if when he was like right yrs old
I mean if he’s really looking to part with it, I don’t see why starting the selling price high hurts anything, definitely wouldn’t start at 300 if others have sold at 1800.
But as someone who had a vintage collection and sold it a while back, it was nice to get the money but I regret selling it basically every day. So if he is at all interested in collecting, I would say keep it and cherish it.
