    Finally at its home. Very impresive video. I noticed you had some understeer issue always in the same corner in the first track. Different setup can handle it i guess.

      @DrPittenstein  Před 6 lety +3

      Onur Rud. Yes will have the geometry checked first, I have a great reference from a car recently set up at the factory. I’m expecting a noticeable improvement. I just hope I don’t go too far and make it too oversteery! I’m expecting great things if I can find the sweet spot but each track would benefit from fine tuned settings in any event. Will return to Silverstone to see what improvements I can make. Hard to go back to a fixed suspension set up after this though, great feature for a road and track car.

      On the day, I drove an Evora Sport 410 as well, which felt entirely different on track than it did when I drove one on the road. By contrast to the Exige, the Evora was almost soft and lot more playful at the back so I was surprised at the night and day difference and I imagine the Evora 430 is closer to the Exige but that's where your video comes in :-) The Exige was nothing but planted, particularly under braking where the Evora was moving around much more - which I attribute mostly to the aero on the Exige. The difference in intensity driving the two, for me, was distinctly down to the required steering input, the Exige being much more weighted (no assistance after all) and it took a few laps for me to get used to the additional elbow greese needed to make the Apexes. So I'm thinking the Evora 430 would be much 'easier' to drive in that regard.
      Best of all was the noise, the Exige won on that front!

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  Před 6 lety

      Yes the Exige is a more intense and physical car to drive on track. Huge fun and unique among modern sports cars. More on this in the video!

    Hit 104db at the noise meters at Silverstone. Drive-by limit was 102 db. It was frustrating at times and made setting a fast lap impossible but we're not supposed to be timing anyway ;) It didn't ruin the day though and perhaps not as much of a deal breaker as some might imagine. No chance on 98db days however.

    Thanks you very much for all this very interesting videos :-) I wonder if i buy an Evora GT430 Sport. I don't want to drive on track but as i'm living near the french Alpes, it should be very nice to drive in these areas. Maybe the GT 410 Sport is enough for this type of use.

    • @DrPittenstein

      Either will be amazing in the Alps. They are very agile and responsive. Most find the GT430 Sport price is not so far away from a GT410 Sport once you have put options on. 430 was worth the extra for me. Let me know what you go for. Cheers!

    Always great videos from you. Watched all of them. I am curious about the lap time differences between the evora gt430 and the exige 430 cup. How close are they? I Ordered the cup 430 and going to drive on Istanbul Park 7 8 times a year.

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  Před 2 lety +1

      Thanks for watching the videos. The Exige should be faster at most tracks but the Evora suspension works better on bumpy tracks and makes a bit more downforce. Exige is a lot more wild, Evora is more composed. I did a video comparing them both at two tracks including Silverstone GP.

    Hi. Great vid as usual. However can I suggest you bookend the driving with some exterior shots of the car and its surroundings. You could also do a before and after of the condition of the tyres etc. I’m not criticising just suggesting. Keep up the good work.

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  Před 6 lety

      Much appreciated. I would love to shoot more exterior footage but it's getting harder to achieve on trackdays now as they won't let you mount cameras externally. I need a friend to give up his day to film from different locations around the track while I have all the fun behind the wheel, for free. Haven't found one yet! I'd like to shoot more exterior shots generally but I've lost a lot of expensive equipment by leaving cameras on tripods to drive past. Usually the first car or van to notice it will stop and steal it. Deeply disappointing but that's why I don't have as much exterior footage as I'd like. Happy to show the condition of my tyres after the next trackday in the next video as per your suggestion. Thanks for the views and comments.

    Nice videos mate. I had a lamborghini huracan, but i started to racing with caterham 420R championship in my country for 3 years then i saw that light weight is the key factor for fun. I sold my Huracan. I tought to buy porsche gt series but after i watched your videos, i decided that i have to buy lotus and luckly there was one of gt430 on sale in my country. Finally i bought gt430 today. My aim is join 6-7 trackdays a year. I want to ask you that can you share your alingment and coilover setups for gp tracks like silverstone and what brake pads and brake hydrolic do you use. Thanks

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  Před 3 lety

      Congratulations! Very happy to share what I know, especially to a fellow GT430 man! I still use standard brake pads but with Castrol SRF for the brake lines and clutch. Geo is standard with just a bit more -ve camber front left, but check to make sure the car has the correct standard geo first, many are out. My track videos show the car in original factory spec which began to understeer more as the front left tyre wore out. As with my Michelin Cup 2 video, just swap the tyres over each side between track days to even out wear.

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  Před 3 lety +1

      For the track I set the Ohlins to Compression 8, Rebound 1 at the Front, Compression 6, Rebound 17 at the Rear. Compression click wheel is the gold one. I was told to turn everything up to full hard and adjust back from there.

    What would a US 400 have to do to get is close to the 430 spec on handing?

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  Před 3 lety +1

      Weight loss (all carbon panels), wider wheels and tyres, Ohlins TTX, ultra light Eibach springs, Evora GT race car suspension mounts, full aero kit. Lotus test drivers say you can feel the difference all the way around the lap comparing cars with and without, the aero parts improve high speed turn-in dramatically. It's quite a lot all together and hard to replicate. Fortunately the Evora 400 is already an outstanding handling car, one of the best out there already. Biggest single change you could make for the track is to fit Michelin PS Cup2s. They will improve cornering (entry, mid corner speed and exit) and braking.

    • @kostasgeorgakopoulos3924
      @kostasgeorgakopoulos3924 Před 3 lety +2

      Having completed the transformation to the GT 430+ on my 2020 Evora GT, tires are mandatory, the best option in my humble opinion is the Ohlins TTX, totally transforms the car, the aero for sure helps and be ready for some serious coin $$$$, if you want some added HP, no one better than Komotec
      One of the best drivers cars out there for sure!

    • @dogtag114
      @dogtag114 Před 3 lety

      @@DrPittenstein I have seen several reviewers say that the PS4s is a better tire even for track because the grip doesn't fall off during the session and over the day. They describe the Cup 2s as having a hero lap. For someone that needs to drive 2-3 hours to the track in any weather with no option to bring tires, which would you recommend? (Komo-Tec 435 on the way) If you could settle a discussion if horizontal side skirts and front splitters add any usable downforce, you get bonus points.

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  Před 3 lety

      @@kostasgeorgakopoulos3924 The Ohlins TTX are essential if running the full aero kit, because it generates twice the downforce of a 911 GT3, it's not for show. The car can only work aerodynamically if the suspension can support the extra weight at high speed combined with increased cornering forces. Lotus say that they would uprate the dampers again for running slick race tyres. Standard dampers won't cope with the extra loads from the wider Cup tyres and aero parts. It's easy or cheap to do properly like Kostas did. But not worth doing on the cheap in my opinion. Enjoy the 400 stock.

    • @DrPittenstein
      @DrPittenstein  Před 3 lety

      @@dogtag114 for competitive track driving the fastest tyre is the best, if it doesn't last it's merely a cost issue. For casual trackday driving maybe PS4 would be fine for most people and last longer but Cup2 is the better track tyre in my opinion. PS4 might be fit and forget but the Cup2 requires understanding and maintenance throughout the day that many don't bother to do. I have a separate video on this but the Cup2 needs monitoring to maintain target pressure of 2bar when hot. This means you should be checking pressures after each run, letting pressure out throughout the day and remembering to inflate back up to road pressures for the drive home. Those that fail to do this will never really experience a Cup2 they will be running far to much pressure, the tyre will overheat. Swapping tyres over side to side between track days will get much more life out of them. I learned the hard way on this! Front splitters and side skirts? It depends who designed them. Did they use a wind tunnel? Do they have any race experience? If just for show then no. If done properly and motorsport proven then you will need to balance front downforce from the splitter with rear downforce or the car will be unstable at high speed. Most aftermarket aero parts just create more drag and add weight as most are just for show. Even on a GT430, one of the highest downforce road legal cars you can buy, a feeling of downforce only becomes obvious above 100mph. You shouldn't expect much from a few bolt on parts, most are designed and fitted purely for show.
