    Thanks for watching. This primer bulb wasn't working so the fix is to replace the carb however it would take days to arrive and I need to fix it today. The repair has now become a hack .

    I have a Homelite brush/weed trimmer that I bought new in 1985. It still has all the original parts and equipment except for the priming bulb and fuel line. Even the spark plug is original. I just keep everything cleaned and conditioned it runs like a champ. Famous words, keep thy shop and thy shop will keep the. It's one of my favorite pieces of equipment when it comes to clearing brush.

    I have a hack if your primer bulb dry rots and you need to use your equipment asap you can tear the primer bulb off and cover it with a plastic bottle cap. Did that with a leaf blower and a pressure washer. May need to dump gas in air filter to start, but the caps were perfect size for my equipment to make an air tight seal so they would stay running.

    Fuel additives rot fuel lines. On a Echo HC-150 hedetrimmer, DON'T use the rubber hoses provided! The lines rot and fall off causing a fire! Use clear lines. If your trimmer stops, check for a loose filter. The line has rotted.

  • @RussellBooth1977

    I'd do a hack repair to get myself out of trouble on my own personal equipment but professionally I'd replace the primer bulb & fit an unbroken retaining ring onto the primer bulb assembly to save wearing the warranty cost if the repair fails.
    The only time we used that JB weld stuff professionally is when we were repairing power tools & the armature fans would come loose on the armature shaft on the Rupes polishing buff (they're an Italian made electric polisher).
    My manager & I would add the 2 part epoxy glue onto the shaft ,machine it down when it cured then press a good used fan onto it.
    That saved charging the customer for a new armature & actually allowed us to make money by getting the job done,otherwise it would just be a non repair job & it's a waste of money throwing a $400-$500 AUD polisher in the rubbish bin !

  • @DougHinVA
    @DougHinVA Před 4 lety +1

    A 'fix' to a broken retainer ring with epoxy is cheap and simple and generally reliable if it is not banged around. Buy another one and put it on if needed (maybe selling off a free device).

    Why would you have to buy a whole new carburetor when you could just unscrew the screw at the bottom of the primer bulb

      I did not see the primer bulb sold separately only the whole assembly.

    I would never replace a walbro or Zama carburetor with a cheap Chinese knockoff. By a $10 rebuild kit and a new bulb and you're all set.
