    You know ... this town just looks like a nice slice of rural Americana. It hearkens back to a simpler time in America and makes me feel good.

    Great video!! I suffered my only out of town break down near Dickinson.
    Hats off to the telephone company gentleman who got on his radio and got me a tow truck.
    Hats off to the service station right off the interstate that towed my car. Correction, they actually pushed my car to the station.
    Hats off to Charbonneau, who fixed my car for a reasonable price.
    Hats off to the ma and pa hotel who came and got me. They were across the street or kiddie corner from a Hardee’s. I didn’t see it in the video, but maybe there’s more than one in town.

      Only one Hardee’s at the corner of Villard and 3rd Ave (Hwy 22 and I-94 Bus). Its on the right, around 2/3 of the way through the video. I worked at that Hardee’s from 1992 to 1994! Charbonneau is diagonally across the intersection on the left in the video. Thanks for your comments!

    Business routes make great videos! The history of the century-old US 10 and the charm of a North Dakota community are a good counterpoint to the long miles of the Interstate, as beautiful as they are. Too bad about the passenger service of the railroad disappearing from that elegant depot.

    • @504RoadTrips
      @504RoadTrips  Před 4 lety

      Yes, they are. Since we had to cover such long distance over such a short time on this trip, we stuck mostly to the Interstate. The business routes were the only real way to see anything, so we made a point to take them. If we had more time (like a week or more), we probably wouldn't have taken the Interstate at all.

    • @RiveraMichael4567
      @RiveraMichael4567 Před 4 lety

      @504RoadTrips: Honestly, in my opinion, while regular Interstates are my favorite types of highways in terms of what standards they’re built to (being controlled-access), business Interstates (being regular surface streets) are my favorite in terms of the shield designs since in my opinion, I feel that the shields look way better in green than they do in red and blue. I just wish for business Interstates to become more relevant in the eastern United States just as they are in the western United States. Sure business Interstate were mainly made to fill in the void that a decommissioned U.S. Highway left behind, but some business Interstates may actually end up being co-signed with a U.S. Highway. Take the I-94 Business Loop in Fargo, ND for example, where it’s co-signed with the beginning miles of U.S. 10 before branching off upon leaving Moorhead, MN.
      Speaking of the I-94 Business Loop in Fargo, ND, I really didn’t mind you guys cutting the business loop short in Road Trip #477 due to that road closure at the river because sometimes, it’s nice seeing other interesting places nearby along any detour you take.

      From what Kari has told me, it has spread out quite a bit since the oil boom. A lot of new housing and hotels have been built in the last 10 years or so. And the population has declined since the oil boom slowed down.

      She's kind of lost the accent in her years of living in Mississippi and Louisiana, but it comes back when she talks to her Dad and Sister who still live up there. I do believe she embellished it for this voiceover a bit.
