    Definitely replace the fan resistor

Hi Marcus the gizmo you need to know about is the brake light test switch. Which fits into the central switch panel. there are few MK2 escort brake system test switches listed on the bay. Hope it helps.

You're definitely going to want that carb spacer in there Marcus.
It's there to isolate the carb from heating up and boiling the fuel out once you park it.
I've had a lotta hot starting issues with DHLA40's that didn't have them.
As to the heaterbox - the coil is just a resistor.
When the fan switch is on the low speed, it's in series with the fan and increases the total resistance (which reduces the current).
That results in the fan getting a lower voltage across it, which reduces it's speed.
The loose bulb is likely the ilumination for the heater control panel.
else it's for the sigarette lighter.
You're also missing a circlip on the shifter that holds the rubber grommet down to act as the reverse lockout spring.
The bent bracket in the center console around 19:40 is to hold the under dash padding, mounts on the inner side of the steering colomn somewhere.
That relay should be the intermittent wiper relay, red. it is clipped onto the brace behind the gauges on mine.
Long comment, but hope it helps.

You're probably gonna need that carb spacer, it isolates the carb from heat and vibration, and also gives a little more plenum volume to aid the mixture

That heater contraption is called a rheostat, it regulates the power to the fan to make it faster and slower, another awesome video man, the wee car is really starting to look 👀 pucker 😊

Installing the interior really brings the car to life.
2 things. 1. The coil is a mechanical way to limit voltage(this was used before “electronics” became available). On the low speed fan setting, by heating up, it absorbs energy and only passes limited power so the fan has a low speed. If this isn’t working, you’ll normally only have high speed only on the motor. . This is why it’s inside the housing, and is cooled by the blower motor. The ceramic sleeve does not move, it kind of a heat sink for the coil. On the fans high speed, this coil isn’t used. If you bought some circuit board material, you may be able to remake this component.
    2. The K44 is silicone, and great for electronics…on the outside, to protect from moisture. Silicone is a type of dielectric, which means it’s an insulator and inhibits electrical flow. I had a friend who used a lot if dielectric on his battery terminals to protect from corrosion, but couldn’t figure out why his car wouldn’t start. We cleaned his terminals, and his car started fine. Then we put the dielectric grease on the outside of the connections for protection.
I think the best thing you could do would be use an electrical cleaning spray inside the plugs to thoroughly clean the connector, then apply the silicone on the outside of the plug to create a moisture barrier. I know the products I use here in Canada, but I don’t know what product names are specifically available to you.

Doing the heater box restoration myself at the moment. You can get a new rheostat but are very expensive. New heater core as well. Check the flaps with foam as they go rusty and the foam comes off and them you get rust and foam blowing through the vents into the occupants eyes.

I wouldn't throw away that carb spacer, they are usually needed as a heat isolator for the carb to prevent vaporisation. You might get away with it, but you may find that you need it so hang onto it!

The brown staining on the heater box could be from a leaking matrix - nothing worse than getting it all together then leaking water over the carpet mate. A radiator repair specialist will be able to test and repair if needed.👍

Great progress mate 👌 the loom sits behind the dash, on the dash itself, held it place with metal tabs spot welded on. The light that's on with the ignition may be the low brake fluid warning light, there should be a switch for it to plug into, but only the later Mk2s had these. As another comment about the circlip on the gearlever. Yes the ballast resistor wire is pink, from memory it is made up of strands but not of copper wire like the rest of the loom, think it may have had ballast resistor written along it 🤔👍

The fan resistor is just a very basic wire coil resistor inside a porcelain or bakealite tube. The resistor obviously limits the current, but as it does so, it gets very hot. The outer tube is therefore in place to help contain that heat build up and limit the risk of fire.
