Can we all agree that the world is just a little dimmer with out EVH in it .. RIP EVH the legend..
I so miss this band and those times (80s and 90s). Such a fun era
The best no doubt..
What a time to be alive. This band was in God mode
When God wanted to show the world how he plays guitar, he chose Eddie Van Halen as his vessel. Viva EVH. Viva Van Hagar.
Van Halen Ed is the baddest !! MF alive!!
Though it's been nearly three years - still mourning the loss of Eddie...the greatest guitarist in history. RIP Ed - your legend will live on for many generations. Happy trails.
The King. Rest in Peace, guitar wizard.
Man can’t we just go back in time when we all got.along..??
MONEY !
When MTV was worth watching
So glad I lived through these days and witnessed it live! It’s 5150 time!
I wish I did
Eddie Van Halen.. provided an epic soundtrack for my life, No matter who was fronting the band..there music is timeless...RIP Edward Van Halen, you won't be forgotten.thankyou very much..
What a damn shame it can’t be like this again. Best band in the world at the top of their game.
Can we all go back in a time machine to 91' and relive those days. Nothing like cruising around on a Summer night in a nice car and jamming to Van Halen while your sweetheart is sitting next to you. We'll be married 30 years this Sept.
hopefully still happily married! 👍🏻 30 years together is amazing in our generation brother
Congrats and keep on rocking!
CONGRADS !!!!! I AGREE , I'm 55 n my wife is 58 June 20 will be 30 years married for us
Congrats! What is his name?
@@drumtum lol🤣
Alex at the top of his game during this time, sober and focused on the instrument.
His drumming got so much better after he sobered up for sure!
100%
0:43 look at his face here, really concentrated, the best drummer forever
Yes, VH Lite was very good. The PG version has some great music. Now, a backstage pass to a 1983 VH show…THAT would be something.
Didn’t know he was a drunk
I'm not gonna lie my heart is with the original line up with David Lee Roth..these early VH albums were magic
I still have this on VHS from the actual time it aired on Australian TV in 1991. LOVE LOVE LOVE it. Miss miss miss Edward.
EVH
Hands down..
The greatest guitarist of all time.
Rest in peace Eddie. You made my childhood amazing.
When MTV was decent.
They still are
Yea if you like hip hop or rap🤬
Back when Van Halen was still a band to be taken seriously. Who else misses those days??
Saw them ten times with Sammy, heart broken that it's over!!
Amen brother!!
@@kirkhaas6665 sammy has great pipes.... dave suckt in concert trying to hit the high notes...in the studio he ripped it!
Great Days Indeed , Brings me back to the Glorious Days of MYV and Van Halen !!!
Man i GOT MY EYES BLURRY TEARS ARE STREAMING DOWN MY FACE GET ME ?
Dave or Sammy Van Halen will always be my favorite band
This just opened a flood of memories.”For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge” may have been the best album this era of Van Halen created. The tour itself was amazing!🎧🔥🎸🙌🏻
Al is one of my favorite drummers of all time.....His playing always fit the songs, and his kit sounded fantastic
Back when MTV was great. Saw them in Portland, Or. in '83 with David Lee while I was in the shipyards in U.S. Navy..good time.
5150 was a great album at a time when Desert Storm was going down and Higher and higher with the blue angels was a masterpiece and all the soldiers loved it.
Michael Anthony was so underrated
Where have all the good times gone ??
*Well said, Serg, well said!*
Amen brother.
👍
Not sure if they got the reference. I DEFINITELY did. Actually one of my FAVOURITE VH songs!!
In 1984
@@nittmo40 It's a cover song. It's a Kinks song! Do your homework!
they were sooooooooooooooooooo happy back then! the peak of it all!!!
This was a few years before ticket prices started going through the roof thanks to the internet.
The Dave vs. Sammy thing was in full-force (and everybody was...and still is...wrong),
Ed still had his original hip and his whole tongue,
Wolfie was 5 months old to the day,
Cabo Wabo was still only one single club and not yet on liquor store shelves,
and Mikey was there,
...life was good.
Happy to have grown up in the 70’s and 80’s
IMO the 80’s had some of the best music being made hands Down.
RIP EVH
Van Halen was always a band ! Sammy wore some pants as tight as Dave in remarks to the guys comment about Dave dancing around !!! I liked both !!! My favorite Van Halen year was 1981's Fair Warning Tour!!! 1st I got to see em was Diver Down Tour 11/3/82 Atlanta, never forget it !!! I was 16 and couldn't believe I was going to see Van Halen !!! They didn't disappoint!!!
Back when rock music was fun
They were at the top of their carrier. Selling more records than before. They seem to be so happy together and I really wish they were like that loving with each other. And it was sad how they fell apart later. Anyway God bless VAN HALEN.... Their music🎤🎼🎹🎶 lives on.
Ed's playing was at the top of his game.
I was at this show, it was great 👍 Alice In Chains opened up..Wow..28 years ago...unbelievable.
The best band ever I saw them with every singer my favorite band of all time
❤❤❤
Me too! Five concerts. In this order,
Hagar, Cherone, Hagar, Roth, Roth.
Saw them 2 times during this era 91 at shoreline amptheater in palo alto, and i think it was 92 at the cow palace in san francisco. Alice in chains was the opening be act in 91'... They kicked ass too. Great memories. Its so sad how EVH ended up backstabbing just about everyone... Loved that ernie ball MM. Such an iconic design.
I was at that Shoreline show. Alice in Chains played Metallica's Enter the Sandman. Van Halen put on a great show. RIP EVH.
I saw them many times over the years. In 1984 I fought my way to very front. Eddie was 5 feet away from me. I couldn’t hear for 2 days. He was doing this running in place thing while he was playing. I remember thinking ? I would bust my ass if I tried that. He really was GOAT. Great showman.
Saw that tour Alpine Valley, Wis.
The 80's look n vibe was still hanging around! Tailgating and Van Halen was great days my friends! Cheers to ya 🍺
We miss EVH. The EB EVH model guitar back in the early 90s was the best guitar Eddie ever designed. Now they are worth a fortune.
You don’t see such clean stacks these days so much…. It’s a beautiful work of art. So thankful I got to see the WCFT, and Diver Down Tour.
x8 stacks 💖💖💖
16 amps and cabinets...my god, to play through that thing. 🙂
@G Stevens -- I saw VH @ Golden West Ballroom -Norwalk (as G.Lynch w/ The Boyz opening for The Runaways) The Starwood & Whiskey.
His playing was so over my head it was surreal seeing Ed George Randy approach/ attack playing notch up from 60s/70s established guitar gods.
Saw VH open for Sammy Hagar Band Black Sabbath & Boston @ Anaheim Stadium when signed Ed towered over Iommi/ Scholtz + Barry Goudreu at the time his playing was of a "Hendrix" uniqueness .....
Also at the old Millionaires Club - The Caberet in Hollywood George Lynch -his band The Boyz co-billed (or opened) w/ Randy Rhoads Quiet Riot ...
Fucking insane reflecting now ....
Its a shame to hear Eddie say Alex Michael and Sammy are his brothers and like family in this video and then see how it is now
danoguitar yep.
Sometimes brothers fall out
Totally agree with you. I wish these guys that played in bands that now hate one another would go and watch old videos like these. Life is too short to be hating one another for stupid shit.
I agree...I know Dickey Betts now wishes he would've played with Gregg Allman and the rest of the Allman Brothers one last time. He resisted every opportunity to play with them, but as soon as Gregg died, he expressed his regret that he never did.
"Life is too short to be hating one another for stupid shit." Do they really hate each other though?
I always loved Martha Quinn how I wish we could go back to 1991 what a great time to be alive
“Runnin’ with the devil” blew my mind when I was 13 years old. It was a long ride….many tapes and albums worn out…and I’ll never forget the “super bowl of rock n roll” in 1980.
Michael Anthony is the best! the pint-sized whiskey sipping bass player! Yeah!!
I always thought Michael Anthony didn't fit with the VH vibe other hair bands had rad looking bassist but Michael looked like beer drinking college student LOL ( of course the backing voice was magical)
Hes so under appreciated. I love the guy! Hes so bad ass on that bass! Hes always having fun onstage! Just seems like a cool dude!
He was the only one with any sense, the other fkn goofballs were just backstabbing fk pigs...Alex was the best one of them after Ant IMO
@@markdevereux2618 he's an awesome bass player and a great back up vocalist too. He was a huge part of the VH sound and you wanna comment on his looks lol
I loved this line up of the band! Rock on!
Ok
Man such a great line up!
I saw them on that tour in Costa Mesa. Vince Neil opened up for them. Van Halen ruled the world of rock.
I saw VH first in 1981 for Fair Warning, then Diver Down then 1984 then I saw the first Van Hagar tour. They were all great. I saw Sammy solo twice before he was in Van Halen and the Van Hagar show was a Sammy Hagar concert with Van Halen as the band. :) I saw Sammy again in Seattle several years ago, he's still going!!
I remember recording this off MTV every time they played it LOL!!! Man MTV sure was fun back then.
I dont thinl i haven't watched MTV since 1988..R.I.P MTV..
Exactly. MTV was so fun back in the day. Now it's zero music and all activism.
@@jimnicholas7666 I didn't think MTV was still on the air
The Saturday night Concerts were great - Ozzy Priest Slayer ....
This era we're in now is such daily bullshit .....🚽
@@BlueberryStinkFinger62 the last time MTV was truly good was 1991 then after that it all went to shit
There was such a good vibe around them!
Saw them at the Capital Center in Landover Maryland in 1986, first tour. It was, to say the least, awesome.
This needs to return!!!!! Too bad it won't ever will.
I still miss Eddie every day.
5150..live, best Concert I ever seen...high-school days...rip Eddie
I would like to suggest that Edward Van Halen be awarded a posthumous Nobel Prize for the immensely positive contributions he and his brothers blessed us all with. I can't think of anyone else who spread so much good will, good vibes, truly original and ground breaking guitar playing, and the equally innovative and revolutionary contributions to the guitar itself and the ways he used effects and amplifiers, etc., to consistently raise the musical bar throughout his too-short career. It was impossible to watch him play and not end up smiling your face off. He made it look easy, sound great and most of all-fun. The world was a better place for him being here, and it will never be the same without him. A true virtuoso with a heart of gold, it was an honor and privilege to have been so lucky to be part of it. Thank you, my friend, you were often imitated but never duplicated. Rest in peace.
Oh yeah, when he shit on his bandmates, he was real positive.
@@hugolafhugolaf Right? If they weren't such assholes they would have still been with Roth at this point and would not have sucked so fucking bad.
I miss these days.
27 years ago! WTF... time flies man
Miss the good ole days. This is when times were still good.
yeah bro I see this videos and started to remember that's good old days when I was young
Didn't ever think I would like Sammy as lead for VH when it was first announced, but man! When 5150 came out I was definitely happy and then I went to the concert at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville (where I grew up) and was blown away! It was great! With the exception of Vai in 2012 I would say that 5150 was the best concert I ever went to....and I've been to a shitload of concerts. I remember being really disappointed with Dave in concert as he was always running around being a showman and never had the wind to sing the lyrics as a result of all his shenanigans. Took away from the performance in a big way. Totally different story with Sammy. Vocals were now a polished part of the concert! And...they all liked each other. Couldn't get any better than that. Good days
Werd....brother i still crank up my stack...and grip n rip....it sucks im getting old now.....but im my heart ...brother in my heart im still 22......crank it up...jump on your harley and hit sunset strip this summer...its good for the soul...see u there!!!!!!

As V.H. said on
Diver Down album with their version of The Kinks Tune.
Where Have all the Good Times Gone ?
I was 9 years old, I remember this I was rocking young
Van Halen...best ever! Great days back then. Seen them several times. Unforgettable times!
I saw them in Noblesville Indiana July 1993 what a great time !!!!!!!!
Van Halen was really, really popular at this point. Even their next tour was huge without any new material to promote.
The balance tour was all new songs
@@truthh8322 Their next tour was in support of a live album
@@Blizofoz45 I just thought it was a continuation of the f u c k
It was epic but it was sad that it all ended by 1996 as did much of hard rock and heavy metal due to changing landscapes.
Man I’m getting teary eyes…these guys were warriors..I hope I can be half the soldier these guys were
I remember recording this on VHS when it originally aired and watched until the VHS wore out. Greatest line ever “Simply said, God is Ed”
incredible time, band in top form, saw many shows this tour....the wall of new amps was unreal to say the least, the new sound was perfection for them. everyone in the band was happy as clams. the double neck on spanked was yet again another new sound that shook the building. yes they took the music very seriously.
Cool footage from back in the day. Thanks for posting.
I love Alex’s drumming style, only uses his wrists and his body hardly moves, unlike other drummers I’ve seen perform
It's called control.
Alex Zen Halen.
Better days Man. Better days indeed.
Saw them in '91' in ATL after their soundcheck in this video.
I miss those guyz. Great show! Great Band!
I can’t believe this has been out for three years and on,y has 1.6k thumbs up. I hope when I’m long gone there are millions because there dam well should be. Do we not remember when music was what it was all about or what.
So thankful we have this footage of the guys.
That guitar body design is one probably the best ever now..
i had this on vhs back in the day. taped it off of mtv. cool to see it again. thanks for posting this!
I can watch these videos all day!
Saw this tour twice. Sept-91 cal-expo sac. May-92 arco-sac. This tour was the best one with Hagar.
8:15 haha perfect description of Summer Nights. I love that song.
Damn, I was 24 when this aired.Seems like just yesterday!
That was over 20 years ago
Miss this band and these days.
Yes 5150 they were all at the top of their game, even Sammy got married, lucky girl....I really dont believe any of them could've did any better back then, and now Sammy and Mike with their work with the Circle, I see why they picked that name now, they came back full circle! Mindblower!!
7:25
Beautiful recovery guy in orange hat. Here’s a man who knows how to cut his losses.
Seemed like these guys were on tour forever promoting this album. I looked into it. This tour was 99 dates and 7 legs. They followed it up with a 60 date tour to promote the live: "right here right now" album and VHS. Then they did the Balance tour in 95 that had 127 dates. No wonder Sammy was tired, worn out; and wanted to take a break. The bros. Fired him in 96.
Sammy wasn't fired. He had a choice. Music isn't a job to Van Halen
@Lloyd Bonafide fuck you
I saw them on both the tour to promote F.U.C.K. and when they came back a year later to promote RHRN. The latter tour was the better of the two. Setlist was even better as well. Alice In Chains opened up for them.
@Lloyd Bonafide WRONG! For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge is one of their best albums. Equally as good as VH I, VH II, Diver Down, 1984, and 5150. You're obviously not a TRUE fan, get your mouth out of DLR's dirty asshole, you troll.
Wow I knew this would be so interesting to watch! Thanks for this video! KGM ❤️👋
Certainly 1 of the best 👌 rock band's
Back when Eddie seemed like he had fun. The first few years with Sammy, everyone seemed happy. Before, with DLR, it seemed like Roth ran his mouth and promoted and no one else was really happy. They sounded great, but did not seem happy. During the Sammy years, it seemed like a united front.
" Better or worse , sounds like us " - EVH ... " Rock n Roll has never been about compromise " - DLR
Best van halen line up ever
I wanna go back to that summer!!
Eddie 👑👑🤟🤟🤟🤟🧡🧡🧡🧡
They treated mike like crap and he was still loyal
It's a damn shame how they screwed him and he's still a class act to this day.
@@johnmarshall3903 so they screwed him on his contract and credits and kicked him out to get Wolfie in the band ? What's the full story here, cause he didn't deserve that shit.
They abused him !! Really disgusting . Dave was a real a hole.
Sammy Hagar is a class act 🤘😂 so is Michael Anthony
I seen this tour in Chicago. Van Halen was the must see tour that year. They were the it band. I thought they were at their best.
Sammy and Eddie had something special. Making easy magic during those years
This is excellent footage. Thank you so much for this. For those of you who are old enough to remember, 1991 to 1992 was the pinnacle of hard rock and heavy metal. I saw them on this tour and they were great. Missed Alice in Chains though. The hype for new albums/tours from hard rock and heavy metal was very overwhelming in 91 to 92. Van Halen's For Unlawful, Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Skid Row, Ozzy, Nirvana, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Alice in Chains, Pantera, Anthrax, Megadeth, and God knows so many more. Even Motley Crue released that Decade of Decadence greatest hits album and toured again after a long break from the Dr. Feelgood tour. If anybody gets a time machine, please let me know.
Saw that tour twice that year. Fresno and Sacramento. Good times.
Those were the shows they recorded for Live: Right Here Right Now, right?
Mario Gillette yes it was. I remember they had all the cameras filming everything. Best concert I have ever been too.
@@Mario_Gillette may 14-15, 1992
Love this!
Wow! You hardly ever see this type of stuff... especially Eddie talking about the double neck
Yeah... I never knew it was semi hollow.
I was at the Lakewood show. It was great!
The best part of Van Halen is that they've always been like a garage band with great musicians. That's what you paid to go see. A great band jamming like they're rocking it out in your backyard. They never felt forced or like it's going thru the motions. They just loved to play. That' was rock.
Eddie, I love you. You are a few years older but we are from the same place, around the same time, know a lot of the same people, have enjoyed each other's company on a couple handful of occasions, and drive the same streets daily. Since I was 14, I have done my part everyday to spread OUR (Van Halen Music) message to whoever would listen or had to hear. I have also gladly contributed a considerable amount of money and love to your lifestyle in return for the enormous, unequaled contribution you have so masterfully given mine.
As a 'friend' who has never asked for anything nor would ever take anything, I have one request for you to consider. Think objectively about the long path you have walked and who has been with you on that journey. A Man accepts responsibility, takes on a measure of fault and blame, if required, makes amends, and apologizes to those he may have hurt by his words or actions.
Better sooner than later. It is never too late. Anyone, any Man, who is worth shit has done it. Me, more than once.
Thanks for changing the game and making every day, from 14 to 56, better for me. God bless, brother.
I've been on a deep Eddie kick since his birthday. Deep for me. I've maybe gone 3 days without listening to Van Halen since I was 9.
I know why I am a musician. My dad. He was a drummer. So was my grandfather. But why am I a guitarist? Edward Lodewijk Van Halen. I am going to miss Eddie for the rest of my days.
AWESOME VAN HALEN...EDWARD ALEX VAN HALEN, MICHAEL ANTHONY SAMMY. I GOT TO SEE THIS TOUR. AWESOME.🇺🇸🤘💜🎸
