Story 23: How to choose the perfect paint color (it's so hard sometimes!)

- Hello, friends! I hope you've had the most lovely week! I spent this past week here at the cottage working in my bedroom and ... crazily enough ... the garden! It's hard to believe that it's warm enough to spend time in the garden in January in the Hudson Valley (upstate NY). I was able to plant some garlic that will hopefully grow??? It snowed on it the next day, so we'll see :)
And I also FINALLY went through the process of selecting a paint color for an accent wall in the bedroom. I've been dragging my feet a bit when it comes to the bedroom because I just wasn't sure what direction I wanted to go in. But with a little help from Photoshop ... I know what I want to do now!

I love seeing Charlie. Living alone ; I am a widow for the last eight years. I have an adorable, beautiful Cairn terrier named Otis Ray ❤he’s the love of my life. he actually just turned six on January 15. I can’t believe it as he was 3 months old when I brought him home😢 He gets excited when I come home from church ❤he is my saving grace.🙏 I love your home the plus about living alone you can do anything you want any time of day. Although my husband never cared how many times I changed the color scheme of a room or moved furniture around.. thanks for sharing your home with us, have a blessed night.

I wanted to watch one CZcams video before going to bed and I said to myself "I wonder if Little Boho Cottage has a new video up yet? And here you were! Really loving your posts and always look forward to them. Can't wait to see your bedroom painted - and a full tour of the new cottage! We had a foot of snow where I am in Canada yesterday - it was so funny watching you plant garlic now. But it's the perfect time - as long as the ground can be worked. Your little garlic cloves will be snug in the ground until spring time. If you have maple leaves around they are a good mulch to put over them... or perhaps birch leaves. Any leaves really. If you put mulch and then some light branches to keep them down until the snow does that, then take it all off as soon as it starts to warm up in spring so the ground can warm up they should be very happy.

I lived in Montreal for a bit and I was just amazed how life never stopped when it snowed. Here things do close when we get a lot of snow. But not up there! Loving that pink wall. The contrast was really nice with the dark wall but calming and tranquil too. That program was nice. I need to utilize that myself. That dress company, boy was I thrilled you shared that company. I'm planning my first purchase next week. That dress place is heaven! I'd love to see all of them. Charlie is so cute! Isn't it great to have a sweet little guy to come home to? I'm working on turning our second bedroom into my crafting room and the color in there is currently an ugly pale salmon pink, so I've been looking at painting it. The color I picked is called Sea Salt from Sherwin Williams. If you haven't painted yet, take a look at it. I know you'll love it!

That garlic needs to be mulched -- under about 6 inches of straw preferably, but if you don't have or want to buy straw, you can use a deep mulch of those dry leaves you are raking up. The garlic will come up through the mulch. If you don't use mulch, the cloves may freeze and rot. The mulch will keep the ground from freezing. Planting in January, you'll probably get mature garlic by late summer or early fall.

I love the circular piece that you moved away from the garden. It would look great as an entrance piece. Maybe use some chains or rope to attach it to some trees so it won't fall over. The pink shade you had to the far left was probably the best colour to blend your bedroom in with other pieces you have in there. It'd be good to stear away from the darker colour that you have in the living room. I thought the kitchen was bigger in the other home. But overall this one flows better. And at least you have heating in this house. It's looking fantastic 😍

I love your little cottage it looks so cozy - I too have a tiny cottage that I just adore! I've named her Little GypSea Cottage! I am not in the woods but if I walk down the street I am at the beach, with my feet in the sand! It's approx 630 square feet and I have an outdoor space with lots of flowers and a 12x16 foot vegetable garden ( I call the farm) spring, summer and autumn I am busy outside working on making the space my own and maintenance - winter I work on indoor projects and dream of plans for springtime! I'm loving watching your journey! I need you to come over and do that paint try out thing, that's an awesome tool to help you choose the perfect color! 👍👏😊

Picking out the right color for any room is a very hard job! I have made many a mistake when I did it! I hope your planting garlic will turn out ok, nothing like fresh garlic in the summer.

Hi, I found your channel recently and have been enjoying your videos. In one of your videos, you mentioned that you needed a salad spinner. Instead of a salad spinner, you can use an old, clean pillowcase or a large tea towel. Just put your greens in it the pillowcase or tea towel, and bunch them up or secure them with a rubber band, string, etc. Go outside and spin it with your arms, as if you are doing large circles with your arms, and that's it, dry salad greens.
I love it ... it dries the salad and gives you a little workout : ) : ) Someone gifted me one ... but I still might try your way ... it sounds more fun!

I love watching you decorate and garden. I am planning what all I will plant this upcoming season. We still have lots of snow and it is snowing as I type. Our raised beds need the soil amended before we can do much this spring, but I plan on having more than I have in the past by also gardening in 5 pound buckets. I'm sure the garlic will be fine. I planted three sugar pumpkins in a 3 x 6 bed and they took over everything. I won't be doing that again! Oh, well. Live and learn. Can't wait to see that wallpaper up. It is gorgeous!!

Have you tried a light box for your SAD? Or at least a full spectrum bulb shining on reading material should help. How great to be able to start in the yard/garden, you're gonna be so glad you made the move.

The cottage is coming along. I love the Shrimp or Salmon for ur bedroom wall. I don't think you'll like it dark. Also' did u get the metal shelves for ur pantry area yet. Many blessings 🙏🏽💜 PS. U should wear gloves when doing all things outside because U can touch something that will cause u to break out. And u pet and hug ur dog. I just know your garden area will be amazing. I'm a tiny bit jealous as there's at least 18 inches of snow on the ground here and we still have February and single digit temperatures ahead. But we live in a beautiful mountain valley with amazing sky views. You would love it! Your home is so cute- I think I need that photo shop program. I love to use solar christmas lights in white, watching this video of the moving the circle you mentioned morning glorys would be awesome during the day and the lights at night on the patio , I love to look out and see them from inside also beings solar lights no utilities needed! Your videos are sweet inspiring!
My favorite color is yellow. I like the soft custard yellow like the color you get from a warm lamp or the sun shine on the wall. I like the way you put the final choices on the computer to get a better idea of how it would look. Because the room you're coming from is dark, I agree a lighter color would look better and I liked the more muted color because it was more calming for a bedroom. It's funny how color can have such an effect on how you feel isn't it. I live in Massachusetts and you're right. I am itching to get into my garden. I get like this every year as february comes around. I've already ordered some seeds😁. It's so true, Gail ... color has such an effect on us! It's why I take my color selection very seriously, lol! I'm glad you have a flower show coming up! It helps at the end of a long winter to get us ready for the garden. It's like a reward for getting through the cold season. You guys have gotten much more snow than us this year ... so I'm sure you're ready for spring!!!!

Gustav Klimt is a favourite of mine, my bathroom is the same colour and in there i put a gold foil print of The Kiss up. I got it on a trip to Vienna so it is also very sentimental! It looks so beautiful agaist the pinky coral, he used lovely colours in his art! 😀
