    *Carseat* Important to note that some airlines (Southwest) require the car seat to be airplane compliant. Double check to make sure the car seat has a airplane on the side. The Cosco seat linked on this video IS airplane compliant.

    My advice for boarding if you’re more than one adult travelling, let one person board with the older children, car seats, cabin bags etc to set up everything and get it all stowed, leaving the other adult with little kid/s to expend as much energy as possible before boarding last.

    3:46 the car seat has to be in the window seat for safety. If you put the car seat in the middle seat or the isle seat you're blocking people sitting in the window/middle seats from being able to easily get to the isle in case of an emergency. Especially if you have the car seat facing rearward.

    • @Meg_O
      @Meg_O  Před rokem +2

      I'm so happy to help! Love to see an involved dad. I would say it probably would be worth it for an international flight - especially if the car seat allows the child to sleep more comfortably than they would on an airplane seat. I think at that point I'd consider what would be the most comfortable sleeping situation!

    Can you gate check both the stroller and car seat? And do they hate that big old bag? I’m so worried to travel with the huge car seat bag and stroller with the kids. My son will be one soon 😳

    • @amber6977
      @amber6977 Před rokem +2

      hi! You can check a car seat for free. The stroller is also gate checked for free. It's recommended not to check your car seat though, since it can be so easily damaged like luggage, which wouldn't keep your kid safe.

    What do you do with an actual car seat you need at your designation? Everyone talks about stroller gate check but do you gate check the car seats too?

    • @Meg_O
      @Meg_O  Před 5 měsíci +1

      You can check it for free with luggage. All airlines will allow you to do it for free. You just have to be okay with it possibly being handled a little rough. It’s essential to have a cover for it (like the car seat backpack I linked), otherwise they just cover it in clear plastic, or nothing at all. Be aware that it can possibly void the warranty of the car seat. That’s not a deal breaker for us. If for some reason the car seat gets damaged, we would just buy a new one to ensure safety of the kiddo. In the 12+ years we’ve been flying with kids, we haven’t had a checked car seat damaged (we always have a cover on it). That’s not to say it won’t happen, just sharing my experience.

    We have two kids and are blessed enough to be able to choose our seats. However, some families do not have the money to do so. I would never tell them it’s bad etiquette. That comment comes from a place of privilege. Let’s not shame families who may not be able to fork out the extra cost that comes with choosing. It can get pretty pricey.

    • @Meg_O
      @Meg_O  Před rokem +18

      My intent wasn’t to shame others who do not have the means to pay for seat assignments. I am fully aware and thankful for the incredible privilege to fly with my kids. But I do still think it’s bad etiquette to expect others to move seats in order to accommodate a family’s wishes to sit together. I’ve seen this a few times. Don’t you think it’s a little unreasonable to ask others to move (who have paid for their seat assignment) to accommodate others? That’s what I was saying. Luckily, I’ve also seen some legislation come through that is making sure minors 13 and under are seated with adults on the same reservation. This has came out since I published my video. Have you seen it? www.transportation.gov/individuals/aviation-consumer-protection/family-seating

      Thank you so much for this comment and I hope others see it!! We are flying for the first time ever with our kids (4 and 9) Our trip is due to a wedding and as excited as we are for this adventure, it would hurt our budget greatly for the additional expense of choosing our seats. Thankfully our airline has assigned us our seats together anyway!

    • @kalifalettine4732
      @kalifalettine4732 Před rokem +8

      I think Airlines should prioritise family sitting together. Families pay way more collectively. No one should ever be shamed. No shade to this video as I’ve been traveling with my kids since my first daughter was 9 months old but my family gets bigger its becoming more stressful. Now 4 kids later and lord help me when getting through a travel day. Some people are very insensitive. Even when traveling with just my hubby, if i see a family paid seat or not I’ll offer to give up my seat. Being a blessing to others is a selfless act. “Bad etiquette” is not offering to help. Please be kind if you see a family offer to carry a bag or let them get in front of you with a baby. Kindness goes a long way.

    • @Meg_O
      @Meg_O  Před 2 lety

      No! We don't typically bring ID for the kids when we fly domestically. When they were under two, sometimes they will ask for ID. We used to make copies of birth certificates and have them on hand just in case!
