  • How Confirming Gigs Can Keep You Out of Trouble
Oh, I forgot to call you. Yeah, we moved the event. I’m glad you called. Let me give you the new address for the event.
Or, Oh yeah, I had forgotten than we booked you. I’m glad you called.
Performers hear things like that all the time. A quick courtesy call the week before a gig will ensure that you have all the current details and remind the client that you are coming.
The client can make you aware of any last-minute changes.
I like to go over all the details such as date, time, place, fee, and what I was hired to do.
There have been times when I have been booked for a one-hour magic show and the client just assumes I will stay at the event the rest of the day twisting balloons or something like that.
Nailing it all down the week before the gig ensures there are not miscommunications on the day of the event.
Family and kid show performers struggle to book enough gigs. I teach you how to keep gigs coming easily, so you can rely on your income and have fun earning it.

I was supposed to do a magic show week before Christmas. Called the client to confirm, she didn’t answer the phone so I left a voicemail. I show up the night of and no one’s there! Client never checked her messages and wound up scheduling something else. Fortunately she paid me anyway since it was her bad and not mine.

Great that you got paid. Too often they try to get out of it. But your voicemail is confirmation. Sounds like you did everything right!
Thank you for sharing this. 🙂
