    The problem with all the rule changes is that it’s given the offense too much advantage. Players didn’t want to go over the middle because they’d get clocked, not to injure players really, but to create turnovers. Today’s NFL is just a shell of its former self.

    • @JA_WILL
      @JA_WILL Před 5 měsíci +7

      @@futuretimetraveller8677 - Back during this timeframe there are only a handful of QB's I can think of who played into their late 30's as a starter. Fran Tarkington, Roger Staubach (Though his missed a lot of years serving the country), and I don't really count Billy Kilmer. Both Tarkington and Staubach were Mobile QB's and would take off and run. Brady would have taken a lot of punishment which does not bode well for longevity.

      Sitting here watching this video with my Mike Curtis jersey on, I wholeheartedly concur with you. I've even got the video paused on that clip. On one hand, I understand the rationale of trying to protect players from legitimately potential serious injury, but if you are aware of that risk and still agree to play by those rules, then que sara. For sure, all of the rule changes in favor of the offense have made modern stats pretty hollow. That particular play is a clear example of how much American culture has changed -- Gabriel didn't whine and complain, and Curtis didn't run looking for a camera to wiggle and prance in front of.

    Thanks a Billion Dave
    This was the NFL when I was growing up in the 70's and 80's.
    Btw, not everyone got CTE.. because I know that there are crybabies😭 who never understood what it is to play this game ... because 9 out of 10 NEVER played the game. It's a risk, but so are most things in life. I played the game and enjoyed every minute I was on that football field 🏈

    • @bms9144
      @bms9144 Před 5 měsíci +1

      The removal of hitting has little to do with CTE concerns, that is just the excuse. The real reason is greed. When they began getting rid of the hitting was when they decided to market the game more to women. The female audience didn't like the "violence" so they did everything they could to get rid of big hits. They could care less about their male fan base - they assume men will always line up for whatever crummy product they are serving. And they are correct. Market share among males in the USA was topped out, but the female market had tons of room for expansion. Get rid of the hitting, support breast cancer (with lip service at least), and punish players who commit domestic violence like it is treason.

      @@albertcovington9942 Try again. If that were the case, they wouldn't play Thursday games (four days recovery), or have added a 17th (21st) game to the schedule. That is just the lie ESPN keeps repeating on the NFL's behalf.

      @@albertcovington9942 The clothesline has been gone since the late 1970s or early 1980s. Face masking has been completely banned since 1962. Horse collar tackles were banned for the 2005 season. So all of these came about before the present administration, Roger Goodell, and the Pinkification of the NFL. This is the period I am specifically speaking of.
      Your point about the extra revenue I agree with completely, but it seems to make my point.
      I didn't understand the other line in your post so I didn't address it.

    Fantastic video quality. The classy jazz and orchestra scores work great, too. These highlights are from back in the days when QBs did not wear skirts. Hitting high, clothesline tackles, forearm shivers, regular muggings ... all part of the game. The zebras said, "Let 'em play."

    Beautiful color and the film quality looks like it was shot yesterday. This is the type of footage everyone knew NFL Films had, but never showed. All ya need to do is wrote up some inspiring lines, get a John Facenda AI narrator and we could get more of what we always wanted. NFL Films of the 1970s early 80s. Thanks for posting this stuff Dave and hope u can keep them coming.

    Amazing video. This is what TV looked like back in the day when you had a decent TV set. I remember watching games on the big 32 inch wood grain cabinet style TV thinking how clear it was 20ish yrs before HD was common place only to be outdone by 4k 10 yrs later or so. It wasn't grainy like movies and old clips made it out to be.
