This is why I slave hard to get the core aspects of my drumming really tight. I don’t listen to much rock, so I’m not about that prog craziness. Pocket is something else, even the most simple grooves are hard to play consistently. funk is really jazz.
I wouldn't say they are pointless, they do show a certain amount of skill. But I definitely prefer the groove aspect of solos. I find the technical solos boring.
Who wants to see someone masterbate on stage? A very small niche of enthusiasts compared to the billion who want to dance, or make love. Our tribal roots are about trance.
Dexter Jones As a fellow drummer myself, a few years ago, I would have agreed with you completely. But I think in some genres and circumstances drum solos can be totally groovy and musical without getting so much into the flashy technical side of it, which can be impressive admittedly. But as TitanSound said, I would rather hear a solo that's more than just displaying your chops.
Steve Jordan has been a huge influence on me. I am a Chicago drummer known for groove and great timekeeping; certainly influenced that. I remember him from all the way back to his days as the drummer in "The World's Most Dangerous Band" w/Paul Schaeffer, Hiram Bullock and Will Lee from the first incarnation of Dave Letterman's show on NBC. One of my all time favorites, right up there with Ringo. God Bless you Friend!
I listen to the record. I think the semi open hi hat thing was out of necessity. Almost feels like the drums was in another room and the need the hi hat a bit louder.
Woody Woodson is my grandpa he said thanks for the love and he still practice every other day
This man is a testament to the fact that “simple ain’t easy.”

1) Steve Jordan may just be fave drummer, his groove is unreal.
2) Those hi hats are HUGE
17"!
Steve J is a beast. I like that he focuses on the beat vs. chops and pointless solos. Yes I said drum solos are pointless and I am a drummer.

Dood- better check out Gadd, Roach, Williams, et al before you start talking shit like that. Or...maybe say, “because of my limited skills...”
Honestly, I'm not a massive fan of doing them in a gig unless it's part of a song but I do find them to be pretty fun to mess around with at practice.
You are my teacher Mr.Steve ! since 1980 ! ! ! Friendly for you !
All I can say about Steve Jordan is; the f*cking GROOVE of this man.
thank u Steve

Oh yeah? Well I liked him all the way back to his time with Paul Schaefer at SNL, not to mention the original Blues Brothers Band.

What a Groove Master ...
any idea what session Steve was doing here?
Did anyone else cringe at the fact that the tom wasn't sitting on the rubber parts of the stand?
No
NO, only drum geeks like u would. I've been playing since 65 and I've seen it all. It's what in the groove, that's all that matters
Гениальный мэн!
