  • I remove and replace the leaking Nivomat shock absorbers on a Volvo 745 wagon with standard oil shocks, in future we'll need to also fit standard coil springs to go with them so the car will be able to handle some load in the rear.

    If you ever break that upper damper thread inside that body structure. Easiest fix and a decent repair is, make a 52mm hole with a holesaw drillbit under floor panels. You can find where that body nut is by finding 12mm rubber hat. Thats just on top of damper, so the nut must be 2 inches inner on the frame. If you google how to fix broken upper mounting thread you lose your mind.

    • @kitakagg
      @kitakagg Před 2 lety

      Long story short just pit a new nut and a litle bit longer bolt, help is needed or long arm.

    • @Involvod
      @Involvod  Před 2 lety +1

      Oh man tbh I didn't even think about that, what a nightmare. I put some grease on the thread and didn't hang off it to tighten it up so hopefully we don't have any issues. Thanks for the heads up!

    • @kitakagg
      @kitakagg Před 2 lety

      That nut inside looks like a treaded pipe. Mathews volvosite says that you need to plasma entire frame off just to fix that thread. Or drop gastank and put a hole to frame. I myself and I just took a shortcut.

    Oh, you got lucky actually. For me all the bolts broke. I wanted to shoot champagne after taking the broken top bolt from that cavity. It took days of trying different ways to get it out since it is inside that cavity where you have no access

    Oh good old Nivomats…🙄 like 4C.. luckily Bev is a poverty model so a set of fresh Monroes sorted her out. They definitely ticked several options when Elsa was new. The scream outside the garage had me in stitches btw 🤣🤣

    • @Involvod
      @Involvod  Před 2 lety +1

      Because it had Nivos I'm thinking I should have gone with something like Monroe, but it will be a good opportunity to test Polar Part quality and report back.
      And yeah, but they still opted for keep fit windows 🤔 They definitely seem out of place on this car 😄

      In my 940 i had a heavy LPG tank. So when i had to replace the nivomats i bought aftermarket overload springs with Monroe airshocks.
      I also installed a 16mm rear swaybar that i pulled from a junked 740 16v
      Worked great!

    Just wondering - in a 740/940 with the rear seat flat, is it long enough to sleep in the back? I thought of that as rocked up and down. 240s are a good length in the back, though they're a bit narrow between the wheel-arches for two (the 740-940 is probably a bit wider). Happy new year Involvo'd.

    • @Involvod
      @Involvod  Před 2 lety +1

      Haha, I should have done a scene with Miss Involvo'd but her parents watch too 😬
      I did think the 240 looked narrow in the back, I didn't lie down in one but I have in a 940, it's over 6ft of room back there and easily wide enough for 3 😃
      Thanks, Happy New Year!

    We had the same thing with our white 940. I let it do a workshop with no Volvo-knowledge. The couldt not find the right springs. I phoned skandix and the send me the right ones. The non-Nivomat-setup works great with the right springs. Even though I love the nivomat-idea.
