The Kani tribes in the western ghats stretch of the Kanyakumari district still lack basic amenities in the tribal settlement areas. After dwelling in the forest for more than a century, the tribal community continues to face neglect from successive governments. Proper housing, toilets, roads and electricity remain a distant dream, while the forest department continues to strengthen their hold over the tribe. Human-animal conflicts remain unaddressed, while the monsoons and cyclones continue to increase their suffering.
