Mr. Smith's Peach Seeds

In 1968 Roger Smith ate a peach during a break from work. When he was finished he took out a pocketknife and began carving the peach pit into a tiny pig. 43 years later the retired meter reader and cattle rancher from Culloeka, Tennessee has carved hundreds of peach seeds into hummingbirds, stingrays, gospel choirs, entire villages, even a baseball stadium with 100+ figures.

Hello Mr Smith, my father used to carve peach pits. Yours is the first I’ve seen like my fathers .I have about a dozen of these little treasures. Swan, fish, partridge, so many. All of my cousins have at least one that my dad made.
He passed 36 years ago, always wanting to go back to Hawaii ( he was there during the war and on Guam Saipan Tinian and Iwo Jima, where he did some carving) I went to Hawaii for him. My last day, I climbed Diamond Head on top I found a peach pit old and weathered, I bought it home. A sign my dad knew I was there for him.

Really enjoyed the laid back way he presented his art. Most do not realize how difficult it is to carve a seed so hard it's referred to as a stone..
