  • The Axle Hitch Knot is used to secure a double wrap around an object or to attach to two separate pull points to a single line, as when used around an axle or tow hooks. The knot can be secured with a Bowline or comparable knot, in my case I will be using a Kalmyk Hitch Knot.

I’ve been a rock climber for several decades. Love knots.
One point to think about is the angle between your left and right vehicle anchor points.
The more obtuse (greater than 90 degrees) the angle is the greater the strain on your rope. In other words the rope becomes weaker (the load it will hold) because of the obtuse angle. We always worked hard to keep our angles acute thus we kept more of the strength in our rope.
Always great to see ideas like this. It’s a first for me.

Hello, Ben - nice! You are right, when it's actually done on a vehicle, it's easier to see...thanks!

The angle between the two ropes should be around max. 60° in order to decrease (~halve) the forces drawing on the anchor points.

Well done video, for a Short duration Tow I think this one has the advantage over the Portagee Bowline Knot because of the slip knot, but for a longer duration Tow Portuguese Bowline is more safe and dependable imo .

Need to extend the knot further from the truck. The angle between legs should not exceed 90 degrees
