"Zero Gravity" is a beautiful song written by Kate Miller-Heidke, an extremely talented singer-songwriter, with a powerful voice, rich in timbre and exquisitely pure.
"Zero Gravity" truly captures the lifting and leaving behind one of depression - in Kate's case, PND (PostNatal Depression) which, whilst
it can affect any woman after giving birth, is more frequently observed in those with very high standards for themselves who tend towards being perfectionists. Interestingly, these characteristics are seen in Kate in this documentary. Kate comes across as very sensitive (but inclined to hide this, and to keep any tears hidden unless she's physically alone), extremely talented and hardworking as well as driven, and inclined to put her all into anything she does.
She has a beautiful classically trained soprano voice that hopefully, due to her representing Australia at this year's 2019 Eurovision Performance and coming ninth (9th) - whilst I personally believe she should've been 1st or at least in the top three (3) - will become much better known to a larger audience than previously. She was formerly known mainly to Australians from her extremely moving song, "The Last Day On Earth" on both 'Neighbours' and which was danced to by a contemporary ballet dancer
in an episode of the extremely popular Australian t.v. series, "Dance Academy." She also wrote, along with her husband, the songs for the musical version of the classic 90s Australian film "Muriel's Wedding" and won awards for her songwriting.
Hopefully this documentary helps anyone who isn't certain what "Zero Gravity" is about to understand that both the lyrics and the Eurovision performance express the relief and joy in being able to leave behind deep and unwanted depression - postnatal depression in particular - which Kate was able to overcome. Kate's performance authentically expresses the happiness and freedom felt now that depression is lifted, and how having one's emotional wellbeing back is both wonderful and to be celebrated.
The actual lyrics along with the way Kate sings "Zero Gravity" truly encapsulate and expresses the joy in being free of (clinical) depression. It's a unique mix of pop and opera and whilst it may take some a few times to fully appreciate both this mix of musical genres and to understand the song's meaning, it's the type of song one enjoys more each time one listens to it - as evidenced by the experiences of both vocal coaches, music lovers, and followers of Eurovision who've remarked about this in their videos about "Zero Gravity"; henceforth we see so many people on CZcams who fall in love with the song even more with each performance, and have it on repeat, with many finding themselves unable to get it out of their heads - although as they enjoy the song and dance about to it they don't truly mind this!

My baby turns 18 this week and this still resonates. Words are springing in my mind - inspiration in the exhaustion of cleaning the house to have a couple of friends here over the weekend for her. She will be leaving soon and yet your words pull me back to that time when I looked in wonder at the tiny creature in the moses basket. She still changes everyday and she will be forever mine and now forever not. Love this beautiful song.
