    I am on my third dispenser for the model known as st1027. Given that we are in the middle of a pandemic, we really want to be able to use our simplehuman automatic soap dispenser. Last week my third dispenser stopped working with no rhyme or reason (same with the first two) and my warranty had expired. So I was determined to make it work. I Googled, watched videos, reached out to customer service. No help. The model was fully charged and would not dispense any soap when I held my hand under the sensor, held down the green button (as I've seen in other user's troubleshooting videos). The only "life" I saw was:
    1. When I plugged it in (green light turned on)
    2. When I held down the side of the button that has the negative symbol on it (red light turned on)
    But I still couldn't get soap to dispense.
    Finally, I plugged my usb charging cord into my computer (vs. via a wall outlet). and held down the side of the button with the plus symbol on it. The light turned green. I kept it plugged in to my computer and held my hand underneath the dispenser directly after seeing the green light. And soap came out!
    I unplugged it, placed it by my sink, adjusted the amount of soap to be dispensed by using the left and right side of the button, and have been good to go ever since. This is long and nerdy but I've struggled with this dispenser throughout my 2 year warranty and beyond. So I thought I'd share. I definitely wasn't going to buy a replacement. Thank goodness my warranty allowed me to send back multiple dispensers!

    When it pumps immediately upon power-up, that means the sensor is registering a trigger. It is not supposed to pump on turn-on, but will if you hold your hand under the sensor at powerup. Likely water or soap ingress into the sensor compartment. It is not sealed very well IMO. Firmware won't fix a faulty sensor. Cleaning might.

    i solved the problem by holding the + sign quite a while flicking the rubber spout a few times and it magically started working again.

    Same issue - second dispense of same model. No more Simple Human products for me! Customer Service told me that the dispense was not made to be in wet environments like around a sink - WTH?

    I have this exact model ST1027 and have the same problem right now. I have been using it for 5+ years without much issues. Getting a new rechargeable model for $100+ plus tax is crazy, I really hope to get it working again. I will try to the battery drain and re charge it, let’s see if that will work magic.

    1. Press and hold the minus button down for 10 seconds.
    2. Wipe the sensor lens clean. We recommend using rubbing alcohol and a micro fiber cloth to do so.
    3. Press and hold the plus button to turn the unit back on.
    4. Once the unit is on, press and hold the plus button for 20 seconds until the liquid is dispensed.

      Wow.. it worked. I had the same problem. I looked at the sensor and there was thick piece of soap was on the actual sensor - which is why it would not read my hand movement. So I wiped the sensor and it worked. It appears soap was covering the sensor where you place your hand. So a word of advice -- always make sure the sensor under the handle and the rubber part that dispense the soap is clean/clear. Thanks.

      This doesn't work. I even took the dispensary apart cleaned with alcohol and put back together

    Wow I must have got lucky. We have three of these things, had them for several years and never an issue.

    Exact same problem. Unit was replaced by SimpleHuman in March 2017, now same problem again

    Mine, purchased several months ago, a cartridge model, looks somewhat different. It does include a long plastic needle to insert into the tube to clear blockages.

    The product is good only in theory. I have had all the problems discuss by everyone else. No clue how it is supposed to operate, ie. dispensing various amounts of liquid. Furthermore, the company provides useless written support and when i elected to connect by text, the text message failed to send. Really terrible customer service,

    One thing that used to work is to wait till the batteries got completely drained. Then charge it seems to work normally again. However, the problem came back and now waiting for the batteries to be drained and charging it again did not reset the problem. The problem still remains.
    Did someone contact Simple Human and ask them how to reset the dispenser, that might resolve the problem.

    This is what has happened to mine as well. I guess 5years if ownership is the limit. They turn it off after that

    Did you wash the bump? Water may get in and cause damge to the sensor. Put it under the sun to get dry.

    I do not think I would attempt a firmware update before I had applied a large felling axe to the underside of the battery compartment. This procedure will convince you that attempting to fix the device is no longer an option. Instead, go and buy a new one and save your self a whole lot of grief.

      Or never buy another one(have...or should I say HAD two of them), and go back to the hand pump style. Will never buy one of their products again.

    After charging mine, the red light always ON. Pressing + or - get no response. Any one knows how to fix the firmware or bypassing it
