The Chevy small block is so common because it fits in pretty much everything, can be fixed with a hammer, and can be upgraded with 50 years worth of varied performance parts for basically nothing
I purchased an 87 Jeep YJ February of 2019, I’m 14. Can’t wait to drop a V8 in it this summer.
got one in october of 2019 for my birthday its a 93 doing it up jurassic park style.
I got a 1990 Jeep YJ in August and don’t have the balls to drop a V8 in it
AJ Calderon Squire dude do it I live it so much it’s amazing best project you could do on that. MAKE SURE ITS THE CHEVY SMALL BLOCK
@@CrackRock. Why not?
I have a 1990 yj that I've been working on getting the rear main leak fixed on, the crank shaft is worn so I'm eaither gonna get a new 4.2 lower or I'm gonna 350 swap it, I'm 16 and I get my licence in like 10 so safe it say I'm pissed that I can't get the leak stopped
“Quick and simple v8 swap” famous last words...
Like "Free Kittens/Puppies". I love watching these guys reinvent the wheel.
Cody Burns pretty much, a swap is never simple
The 4.2 or 258 Inline 6 is a legendary engine. They have plenty of torque which is far more useful than HP in a Jeep. The 4.2 can be a real powerhouse in stock form with other than stock carb , intake , exhaust. A cam with a bit more lift and duration on intake as well as exhaust along with a webber carb swap and a header really brings them to life. And they are absolutely durable long life engines. Swapping the later 4.0 HO head , efi and ignition system makes them a bunch more fun too
Love the small block swap in the jeep. That's what I'm about to start as my next home project. Super excited. 👌
Y’all need some shop lights
Hell yeah, I swapped a sbc 350 into my little 77 Chevy Luv. Best decision i've ever had. So much fun when you have triple the power.
Keeping a first car for so long is amazing, you guys did a great job 👍
I remember this Jeep was running(not very well) when i found this channel. Now i Want one!
Great swap guys! 350 small blocks are bullet proof and sound great.
Small block Chevy.... The most universal engine ever. You can fit them in almost anything with wheels, almost all the parts are interchangeable regardless of displacement.... They are as modular as an AR-15.
just what i needed, will be doing the same in my 92, yj thanks so much !
Been wanting to do a v8 swap in my 93 jeep yj I hope it's as fun as you guys had doing the swap 😂 quite entertaining
Small block chevys are cheap and super accessible. Fun build. Now do a 1 ton swap and coilovers!
Really wanna swap my TJ so I’ve been looking around at video. This was a great one!
Swapped a small block into my old boat. It was the best decision I've made in a while. Got to love an old reliable platform.
Sick, been waiting ages for this
Gotta love the small block you need to do a spring over keep the stock springs they flex like crazy both ways put some traction bars on it in the rear
excellent channel lads, great projects and footage !!!
Sick little build guys....bring on the twin turbo 👌
Badass guys! Question about the drive shaft and transmission. I have the Automatic t999 I believe it is in my 88 YJ. Are you just running 2wd most of the time or have you tried using the 4WD with the more power from the V8? Does it take a toll on the transmission?
I’m actually looking in to doing a sbc into my 90s jeep but I don’t know if I want 327 or 350 but I’m sitting on 33s and that 4L v6 does not like to keep them turning up a incline even on a highway so I thinking of giving it a little more power and what bell housing did you use ?
Me and my dad completely rebuilt a 350 and then started it up on the engine stand real jank like propped up with a 2x4 and a pick axle that was laying around. Fun times!
Ax*
Hey guys. I ust put a 383 stroker in my 78 cj5. Its a street cruiser. Is your motor mounts welded solid? I couldn't see any bolts. Thanks for the video.
I like the sound of the small block, and you can do a LOT with little money
Sadly, in Argentina they are EXPENSIVE AF, so can't afford one
I switched my 4.2l to an amc 360. Ny old 4.2 didnt have coolant so it overheated be cause the hose rubbed against the steering shaft causing a hole
It’s cool to see the Jeep again.
I loved your video. I'm contemplating doing an engine swap for my 2010 JK. Where can I buy a new Chevy 350? I live in Miami and don't want to get screwed over at one of these places down here.
put 302 in my 84 jeep and its fuel injected.runs great but i have a high idle problem when you hit gas @t revs for about seconds and then back to normal.any ideas what it could be?
I’m trying to look at putting a ford 302 in a 1990 keep y j with 5 speed standard transmission what am i looking at to be able to do a swap over
Great video!!! Is there a way to swap a SBC to a torqueflight transmission?
that's awesome man. I want to do the same to my tj, but with an injected V8.
So the only thing you had to get/fabricate was the mounts and the bell housing? Do you have a link to the kit?
Awesome! I'm putting a 5.8L in a CJ7
That V8 sound!
What year is the s10 I have 1999 tj y planning to swap the engine for 350 v8 but no spent to money in that what motor is better
i have a jeep 4 cylinders and i wanted to do the same as you around how much money you think i need to save up to make it happen
What did you do for fuel pump pressure and volume? The stock pump puts out 51 psi max from what I understand.
Love the V8 sounds. 😁
Do you guys still have that 4.2 straight six? I'd like to take it off your hands. I've wanted to rebuild a motor since I was 12. That would be a good practice motor.
I've owned my 02 tj for 15 yrs now. I just put a crate 4.0 stroker in it, hoping to get more noticeable power. Epic fail man. The bottom end torque is there, but nothing else really changed. So,... I'm starting the sbc swap. I found your video, looking for a bit of encouragement . Very nice motor mount set up. I noticed this video is 3 yrs old now. I have to ask ,, Would you recommend this swap to a friend. I prefer not to go LS because of the wiring nightmare.....
The 4.2 block has some value. Lots of people swap the 4.0 head onto them for a little extra power...
Does that SBC 350 have any upgrades done to it other than the intake, carb, and ignition?
Can you tell me if a V 8 motor from a Jeep grand cherokee fit in a 98 Wrangler without any adaptors?
Nice vise mounted to the Snap-On box....
Thank goodness for the lights....
What exactly do you need for this v8 swap. Besides motor and adaptor kit?
Nice work my dudes 👌
I'm finally dropping in a sweet 327 after about 6 years just couldn't kill that damn straight 6 but my x gf did lol she should be up in running next month just waiting on some parts can't wait...
I so wish. Rebuilt my 4.0 in the cherokee but wish I could drop a small block in my 98 Wrangler.
Cool video man. I’m currently building a cj8 on my channel with a ls motor
So with a v8 swap on that jeep will you be upgrading, transfer-case and axles?
Going to be a awesome swap mate
What transmission do you use on the Chevy 350 small block
So awesome!
I love a good ol sbc. Cheap and easy just like me
My first swap was a Chev 265 V8 (which was the very first small block Chevy) into a 1943 Ford GPW - an MB built by Ford during WW II -over 50 years ago, all by myself in an unheated barn in the winter in eastern Washington State. I kept the original transmission, transfer and front and rear ends, big mistake. I am ready to do it again with my 91 YJ 2.5L, but this time I will use a better transmission.
Have you done it?, I’m thinking about swapping a Chevy 350 into a 95 YJ, but I wanna know if it’s complicated to swap the transmission and transfer because I daily it and I don’t want more trouble than the jeep itself is.
Love me some abc swap action
Big fan of small block Chevy engines. About as budget minded as it gets and parts available just about everywhere. Not a fan of carburetors on 4x4 rigs. They flood out usually at the worst possible moment and don't like the bouncing around, but still cheap and easy way to get it running/driving.
Hi, if I brought a yj in and had you do everything, how much would it cost out the door?
with a price of a decent 350 as well?
Thanks
Wow, haven’t seen that in ages. Thought maybe you got rid of it when you got the Merc.
Great size, iconic, proven, simple, great bang for buck, after market parts galore. You can’t knock a small block chev ?! 😁
How did he blow the straight 6?? Those things are bulletproof....
Is it possible to drop a small block V8 in my 88’ 2.5l YJ and have it be street legal in CA?
Still love the sound of the SBC.
Can I swap the 2.5 4 cylinder with the same engine
Small block Chevy boosted in a van would be sweet, kinda like a team boosted support vehicle
Did you flip the front axle?
I put a 440 in my yj. Its really fun.
Dang ole yeeyee motor going in a yeehaw-mobile.
What axles are you using
How much does a swap like this cost? I live in LA
Im looking for the old school kc light.
Keep all the small blocks and use them in one car, throw some turbos on it and drive it till the motor gives in and then swap it out again 😂🤣
That engine looks like it weighs more than the moon, sounds good tho.
I used to swap those motors in a day with limited tools and little or no help.
About what is the cost to do the swap
One day the 1 rotor will live till then I shall wait
3 plus+++ rotors are way more fun, but extremely harsh on the ears! 🐝 🐝 🐝 🐝
I plan on putting a v8 in my yj.
In before the v8 spins a bearing
Im bout to swap my inline 4 for a 8.1 big block wish me luck
I'm ready to get rid of my 4 cylinder in my jeep wangler YJ. I'm still back and forth whether to put in a straight 6 or V8 in it. I'm ready to make some upgrades to it
Did you do it? I also want to get rid of my 4 cylinder but I don’t know if it’s best to go for the jeep 4.0 or the Chevy 350.
Small block chevies are way cool!
how much did the v8 cost?
Shared with some Jeep/V8 fan friends.
Hello how can I contact you guys for some work? Thank you
Fire...
OSHA approved flip flops
What year yj is that? I know it's an 87-91 but idk which. I have an 86 cj
The yj is 87-95
Stock leaf springs huh?
what was your est. cost
Say what you want about the 4.0 Jeep engine but with my 2005 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon Sahara Unlimited 1 of 1000 I have had nothing but trouble with the electronics....After spending between $2,500 and $3,000 dollars over a year and one half my Wrangler is sitting in the carport right and won't crank....Great Jeep, great engine world's worse electronics....
Update !
5:26 "Doodlebop"? Lmfao Love it...
How to claim the prizes
Just because!
I wanna swap mine trying learn more first
Can you do a update
Niceeeee
Should have ditched that junk trans case while you were at it. PLEASE make new motor mounts also. Good lord
