I'm primarily a bourbon drinker, but that's mainly because it's what I'm most familiar with. I like that you did 2 lists. I can relate to everything on the first list, and the second list helped me learn about new bottles I wouldn't normally know anything about. I like trying new things, so thanks for both lists!
I'm happy to have helped. If and when you pick up a bottle or two I'd be interested to hear what you think of them. Cheers!
Daily drinker -Woodford Reserve or Buffalo Trace when I can find it
Mixer Old Forester 100 (I actually prefer Ryes for my mixers. Templeton Rye 4 yr 👌)
Friday night pour - Knob Creek Single Barrel Select (my local liquor store picked a BANGER)
Impress the guest… one of these days but for right now it’s that I have a gob of decent stuff they can try.
Nice. Thanks for sharing. Still have not had the Old Forester 100. Knob Creek Single Barrel is always a good choice. Cheers!
Cracking line up on both lists! Great vid. Cheers Peter.
Thanks. This was very difficult to put together. Too many options and too many good whiskeys to choose from. I can do the list again and get 10 different options. I guess that's a good "problem" to have. Cheers!
No clue how I missed this video! Great list Peter and I love the inclusion of the “true to my channel” picks as well. Could’ve emailed you to let you know the package made it safe and sound but wanted to say thanks via comments and likes to appease those ever-present engagement overlords at YT HQ. Cheers!
I had to be true to my channel and I had no idea how difficult it would be to pick just 5. It was rough. I was going to nominate you and Erin, but saw that you did it about a year ago with ADHD's twist. Good to know you got everything and they all made it to you intact. Enjoy them!
@@whiskeyisajourney we're actually due to revisit the topic and plan too pretty early on next year. It'll be fun to get back to it. It's definitely challenging to pick each category!
Good job with the double dipping. I’m going to have to stick with scotches as I have limited experience with bourbon… not a go to for me. Thanks for extending the challenge to me.
Cheers 🥃
Have fun with it! I am super excited to see what you come up with. I was chatting with Sidd finch and he told me that he thinks he knows what you might pick. He did not reveal anything to me so I'll be interested to see what you pick and if he was in the ballpark of what he thought you would go with. Cheers!
@@whiskeyisajourney Sidd has his fingers on the pulse for sure. Greatest detective in whisky world.
Love the channel
And great list!
Much appreciated! Cheers!
Great choices. I picked up Tin Cup 10 year, but have not opened yet. My daily drinker would be Early Times BIB or Buffalo Trace. Impress your guest with Knob Creek 12. Mixer would be Evan Williams BIB. I agree with OF SB Barrel Proof as the Friday night pour. Special Occasion would be Calumet 16 or Lucky Seven Proprietors 15 Year.
Nice! A lot of the bottles you mentioned will make an appearance in some videos that are coming out soon.
Your 5 go to is the most impressive I’ve seen to date. Octomore 13.3 isn’t available in Oklahoma City, but Yamasaki is $200-$300 here. Great choices!!!
Thanks! Yikes on the Yamasaki and it's unfortunate that Octomore is not available in Oklahoma because they are delicious. Hopefully eventually they well become available. Cheers!
Nice job brother! Way to color outside the lines. I totally agree with your Tin Cup choice. I did like it and could probably drink it by itself. Although, I still might add some Skrewball to it so I could really enjoy it. Cheers!
That sounds🤔🤔🤔🤔 disgusting, but hey you do you. There's no wrong way to drink your whiskey 😜
Nice lists! Booker’s are really nice! I’m liking Country Ham, Ronnie’s, Charlie’s, Pinky’s, and Kentucky Tea batches!
I tried really hard to get all the 2022 batches. It was tough, but I got them all. Each one was good. Country Ham was before I started my journey but I heard a lot of good things about it
@@whiskeyisajourney I have a local store that has some older bottles and he sold them to me for 85.00 and my connection got me last years 2022’s and the first two of 2023 for 75.00 I’m only 11 months into my journey and I’ve found some older bottles like these.
Booker’s
Bardstown
Pinky’s
Country Ham
Kentucky Tea
ECBP 2022’s
ECBP B520 C920 $85.00
2@ Sam Houston 14 $80.00
Larceny BP 2022’s
Larceny BP 2@ B521 $70.00
Bardstown Fusion 7 $50.00
Bardstown Discovery 7&8 $100.00
Knob Creek 1/4 oak ?
Belvenie 14 Caribbean Cask and some nice tequila bottle (not old)
Cheers!
Great list! I'm with you on the Booker's pick. I've missed out on all of this year's Booker's releases, so I'm super jealous too! Totally with you as Rare Breed as the "mixer" too, easily my favorite bourbon on the rocks!
The day after the video posted, Booker's Kentucky Tea hit my local Total Wine & More. Needless to say I picked it up. Thanks for liking the list. It was very difficult to put together. If I did it again I would probable have different selection. Too many good whiskies to choose from these days. Cheers!
I wish I could find a Old Forester Single Barrel.
I saw them a lot about 6 months ago, but have not seen any in a while. That's a shame because they are fantastic.
i really want to try the redbreast cask strength. cheers
It's worth seeking out in my opinion either at the bar or a store.
Imagine being elevated enough to use Rare Breed as a mixer LOL
I don't make cocktails very much so I figured if and when I do... Make it a good one. Wild Turkey 101 would be much better if I made them more often.
Man you have some nice bottles Peter, great lists! Love that you did both Bourbons and other Whiskies too 🥃
Thanks again for throwing it my way. So much fun picking out the bottles. And harder than I thought it would be. I had to do 2 sets of 5. No way around it. Cheers!
So just Bourbons
1. Four Roses Single Barrel
2. Four Roses Small Batch Select
3. Makers Mark Cask Strength
4. Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel
5. Wild Turkey Masters Keep One
Non Bourbons
1. Nikka From the Barrel
2. Glenmorangie Signet
3. Suntory Toki
4. Glendronach 18 Allardice
5. Octomore 12 Ten Aged Years
I like it! Thanks for sharing.
I was a scotch guy for years. Got into bourbon due to a few of my buddies. I've never tried any of the ones you listed. I currently have in my collection: Elijah Craig small batch, Buffalo Trace, Wild Turkey 101, Sazerac Rye, Knob Creek 12, Russell's Reserve Single Barrel (my current favorite), Evan Williams BIB (least favorite), Four Roses single barrel, Four Roses small batch select, and Wild Turkey Rare Breed barrel proof.
That is a great start. If and when you look to expand your collection try to get your hands on one of the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof A,B, or C releases. Challenging proof wise, but loaded with flavor (in my opinion). Also look for Eagle Rare, but don't pay over retail for it $35.00-40.00. Cheers!
You got into Bourbons because they're cheap. Most are also no good. I can't vouch for all, because I haven't tried them all. I have a few $50+ bottles and none of my friends want any, they all go for the fine Scotch. I can't blame them, I don't think they're all that great even in cocktails. Passable with lots of ice.
New to AZ. Where is a good place to find Whiskey??
I've always had good luck with Total Wine and More.
Don't daily drink. 'wink wink
Running a CZcams channel I definitely need to watch the consumption rate. Daily drinking is a no go for me. Cheers!
I love the tin cup 10, but I feel like it's a bit pricey for the "daily drinker". It's up to $55 here in Nashville. The Calumet16 sits on the shelf at my local store. Nobody buys it that I know. I've always wondered if it is any good.
Not knowing your taste all I can say is that I like the Calumet 16. I think the reason it sits on the shelf is due to it's price. It's expensive. Maybe not as good as the asking price, but good enough to try if you get a chance. Cheers.
Benchmark small batch is better than the full proof or the top floor. Ton of Carmel flavor.
My next First Friday Flight Fight is going to be blind tasting 4 of the Benchmarks. I don't have the small batch, but i do have Top Floor, Single Barrel, Full Proof, and obviously the Bonded. I'm curious to see how they rank.
Well dang i heard daily drinker so i drink daily lol 50 bucks for a daily drinker.
I don't drink daily, so I bumped up the quality of the drink. I've had this bottle since January of 2022. I have about 3 drams left in the bottle.
@Whiskey is a Journey I don't drink everyday I always make that dumb joke but tin cup 10 is a fine drinker still got half a bottle slowed down because I haven't seen one in a while
Like the personality and straight forwardness of the channel. Subd
Thanks. I appreciate it. Cheers!
Whelp, I'm comin over! Great list Peter!
I'll leave the light on for you. Just text me when you're on the way. Might as well stop off and pick up Wade from McIntyre's Malts as well. 🤪
Amazing how PC you need to be. Based in OZ I would love to try some of those bourbons, we just down see a very big range down here. Interesting selections, for the products I know and have tasted.. Red Breast and Rare Breed, beautiful drops. You lost me at Octomore though, I am still not able to handle the peat smoke, I just cant taste the nuances of the whisky underneath it.
The first few times I tried peated whisky I thought people were out of their minds liking them. In fact, I thought they were lying about liking them...until I got to a point in my journey that I was able to find those nuances you mentioned. It's almost like my palate was thirsting for something different after sampling Irish, Speyside and Bourbons for so long. And now I can't believe how much I like them. Cheers to your journey. Check back in if and when you ever get to the point you turn that corner.
I'd go... Redwood Empire Lost Monarch, Old Forester Rye, Wild Turkey 101, Russel Reserve Single Barrel, and Calumet 16, but you could throw a Monkey Shoulder in there for the RR Single if you wanted (but I wouldn't). But what the hell do I know?
Solid list!. I've never had the Old Forester Rye before.
1 pour with a cigar each night for me.
What are you pouring these days? Is it different each night or do you stick to the same thing?
@@whiskeyisajourney always different each night which is the same with my cigar selection.
Nice lists, but literally the only bottle available in my market is the Rare Breed.
Oh...wow! Where is your market?
Seattle
Like your list better, new sub 🥃
Thanks and I appreciate the sub! Cheers.
Special occasion: Anything you really love but is hard to obtain.
I don't think I have anything in my collection that meets that definition. I'm sure by this time next year there might be with the limited releases like the Remis Repeal V. Everything else was "off the shelf" at Total Wine and More.
@@whiskeyisajourney well count your blessings, lot of us have to abide by allocation 🤷
Decent list but you lost me at Redbreast and Rare Breed. Redbreast Cask Strength ($70 to $100) as a daily drinker is pretty good living. Rare Breed as a mixer? I think that misses the point of what a mixer is.
I completely agree. Redbreast is too expensive, but not drinking everyday this is my go to when I want a dram and the Rare Breed I felt would hold up to what it's mixed with on the rare occasion I do a mixed drink. I appreciate your input and see where you are coming from. Cheers!
Only 5 😅 crazy talk
I know, but it was fun trying to narrow it down. 👍
Yea you only need 5 but have 300 would be nice
So difficult to select just 5.
Great list. Some interesting bottles. I too don’t really do mixers.
But, Why do you feel the need to give your “I don’t condone..” statements. Relax. No one watching your Channel is going to go pinch someone in the face.. haha.
I certainly hope nobody watching the channel would. 👍
Actually, you need zero Bourbons.
Okay.
Tin cup isn’t bourbon. Stops video
American whiskey then. MGP (Ross & Squibb) with Stranahan's mixed in it. Correct?
